Do betta's get stressed in pitch black darkness? I turn off all the lights in my room at night and I'm wondering if I should get a small night light or something so it's not completely dark for my fish

i have an issue with reflections of the light in the tank and the beta can see himself when the light is on thus flaring up so i cant keep the light on and tips? i would like to see the beautiful colors....
