I am a novice who just moved to Florida. I am looking at buying this board. I am 5'10" 170lbs any suggestions as to what length smoothie I should get?
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 4 years ago
Don't worry about length too much at first. Find one a little over 38 liters to give yourself plenty of foam to paddle easier and get into waves earlier.

And how about the Dwart Too vs Smoothie in Torsion Spring tec? Which one is better for 2-5 feet waves? I really, i mean, REALLY like your reviews. Thanks a lot for it.
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 5 years ago
Dwart Too would be better on the smaller end of the 2-5 range, whereas the Smoothie will be more for the upper side of that. You can use the Smoothie as a groveler similar to a ...Lost Puddle Jumper though, so for that full range, the Smoothie may be a better fit.

Twin plus trailer is how I ride it in small waves. It boogies and is so loose. Quad when it gets over 3 feet. So I can have more tightness

I ride this board at 5'6 . Does this dude really prefer these small wave boards at such long lengths? My 5'6 smoothie absolutely rips. I'm 5'11 and thin. From knee-high slop doing laybacks and airs to getting barreled when it's 6 foot and offshore this thing absolutely kills . And I love it at 5'6. The longest I would ride this board is 5'10.

I have a 5'10 lost plank that I ride when it's knee high shit. Basically when it's so small you have to take a long board. Once it gets up past two foot I'm taking my 5'6 smoothie out and I'm riding that all the way up to 6 foot offshore barrells. If the waves are really good and there's some size I take out my 5'10 sub scorcher lost. That's for the epic days . Barrels and huge airs. But for the ever day surf the 5'6 smoothie is so much fun. Mine is 2.41" thick and it's thick all the way through the nose which allows me to take off any small wave and once I'm up this thing flys. Feels like your surfing a real shortboard on head high waves when it's waist+. I can lay into and do huge laybacks, I can scoot down the line and punt airs off the oncoming section, full round house cutbacks, 360's, floaters everything in 2-3 foot slop. I love it. Reminds me of the quiver killer by lost.

Hey mate, is it a board that sold quite well / good feedback ? I m looking for a simple board, easy to surf, easy to catch waves with good foam up in the nose but manoeuvrable ! offering great speed on smaller day like 2foot +, occasionally 3 foot, beach break.

I think i am about to get this board. What size would be good for me? i'm an intermediate surfer but haven't surfed at all last season. i'm 6'1, 200lbs i was thinking 6'6 maybe 6'8?
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 5 years ago
Hey Jordan, thanks for writing in. What other boards are in your quiver or what other boards are you comfortable surfing on? And where are you surfing? 6'6 or 6'8 could be the right call but more information would help me make the right recommendation. Cheers - Ashlon

how does it hold up in the barrel
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 6 years ago
It does well. The Smoothie is really fast which is usually a plus, the only downside of the speed when barrel riding is the stall. When you want to hold back in a barrel the Smoothie wants to run out front, it helps to throw an arm or two in the face if you want to stay deep in the tube.

Hi, I'm 5'11, 190 pounds, intermediate. Thinking of ordering a 6'4 smoothie in epoxy construction... Have you heard any feedback on the Rusty epoxies? Thanks

Hello, I weight 154 lbs. Actually, I surf in a 6'0 - 20 - 2 1/2 (33L volume). I thing my level is about intermediate.
I normally surf in Mediterranean sea (sometimes in Atlantic Ocean), normally from 0.5 to 1.5 in not very good conditions. Which volume and length is better for me?
Another little question: When is more appropriate to use 4 fins and when use 3 fins. Is better to use 4 fins to surf in smaller conditions and 3 fins in bigger conditions?
Thank you very much.

I'll seriously consider this board to my next buy. I only have a doubt (smoothie or Hypto Krypto). I'll contact you by email to know more about shipping cost info. Thank you very much for your answer.

Hello Tomas, at your weight and skill level, the 5'10 at ~33L will be a good size for you. Since you are mostly surfing small waves you will enjoy the paddle power and ease this size gives you. The Smoothie has low rocker and a wide nose with plenty of foam. These traits give you a lot of speed and a high wave count. Check this one out http://www.realwatersports.com/rusty-smoothie-pu-poly-5-10-25334 For the fins, a Tri fin set feels more engaged through turns and makes a more pivoting turn. The quad will put more of the rail into waves and project down the line with more speed, Quads are good if you want to maximize speed for racing down small surf, or need as much speed as possible to navigate big surf and barrels. The Smoothie has 5 fin boxes, I recommend getting a tri/quad set with your board so you can experiment and figure our what conditions you prefer to ride tri's or quads in. FCS2 Performers make a great tri set, http://www.realwatersports.com/fcs-fcs-ii-pc-carbon-performer-tri-fin-set-blue-medium and use the performer rears to make it a quad http://www.realwatersports.com/fcs-fcs-ii-pc-carbon-performer-quad-rear-fin-set-blue-medium

Hi Real, I am 6'4 but only weigh 176lb, I am also an intermediate/advanced surfer. I am very tempted to go for the 6'0 smoothie, is this sensible or should I go a little bigger?
REAL Watersports
REAL Watersports - 7 years ago
Hey @Popkiem101 thanks for your question. The Smoothie is a great shape, and has been one of the most well received boards by the staff here at REAL ever, just check out some of the reviews on the bottom of our product page. The 6'0 would be a good size at your weight, and if you really are intermediate to advance you should not have any trouble catching waves on that volume. If you have trouble at times paddling against current, or just catching waves I recommend sizing up to a 6'1 or 6'2, but if not then the 6'0 is a great and sensible size for your weight. Keep up the stoke! - Ashlon Durham

tossing up between a dwart and smoothie... pros/cons? for everyday surf, usually 2-4 feet, occasion overhead. leaning toward smoothie.

REAL Watersports - 8 years ago
+WilDlingNZ Thanks for your question. Both boards a extremely versatile and can cover the wave range you're going for. The Smoothie's design allows for a bit more performance at the top end of the wave spectrum; it is a little lower volume and narrower per-length compared to the Dwart...
Example: 6'0" Smoothie is 20.75" wide, 2.59" thick, 35.40L volume.
compared to 6'0" Dwart 21.00" wide, 2.81" thick, 39.3 volume.
With the sleeker dimensions, slightly more foiled nose and tail, a tiny bit more rocker in the nose and tail, and the confidence building Round-Pin tail shape are going to make it the better choice when the waves start to turn on.  Because it is a paddle machine, you're going to have longer sessions and higher wave count when the waves do start to pump.  If both boards were equal length, Smoothie would have the edge in bigger surf, Dwart would have the edge in mushy weak surf, and they would have a good amount of overlap in the middle.  Hope this helps! -Chris Stellato +real watersports

+Riley Sebby - Assuming you're using this as an "everyday" shortboard for average-good conditions, your weight and skill level should look at something around 38-40L volume. A 6'4" Smoothie would be perfect for you: http://www.realwatersports.com/surfing/surfboards/rusty/smoothie
