It uses an inch and a half thick pad not only to help protect our tailgate but help protect our gear from scuffs and scratches. The neoprene buckle comes out from underneath the pad and over the top of our gear to help hold it in place. It has a surrounding protector as well as a tab on bottom to ensure our gear doesn't get damaged. The special foam-filled padding is really going to contour to our accessories. It simply attaches to our tailgate with two straps and two buckles. It measures 30 inches long and it's going to work with most tailgates, full-size or mid-size. The Yakima tailgate pad is the ideal solution for carrying your stand-up paddle board. It's also going to carry ladders, lumber, or any other elongated items that you might have. Now that we've gone over features, I'll go ahead and show you how to get it installed. It's got this nice mesh carrying case so we can easily carry it around or store it. Let's go ahead and take it out, set that off to the side. What we want to do is we want to just kind of straddle it over our tailgate. Now you can position this anywhere you'd like, off to the side or centered. Wherever it's going to work best. We're going to put ours right here in the center. I think that's going to work out for us. We'll go ahead and start by grabbing one of the straps here and we're going to feed this up under our tailgate and between the bed of the truck. Now in some trucks, you may have to crack the tailgate a little bit just to give you enough room to feed the strap through. All we need is a little bit and we can just pull on up the rest of the way. Once we get it up here, you're going to feed it through the buckle and then back down through the front portion there. That's going to help hold it in place while we do our other one. We'll just have it loosely installed for now. We'll just repeat that same step with our other strap. Now with both straps run through, we just want to make sure our pad is facing upward and it's sitting on top of our tailgate, just like this. Then I found it was easiest to just drop down the tailgate that way I can easily evenly tighten up the straps. You don't need to get them all really, really tight. You just want to have them nice and snug that way it helps keep the pad on top and in place. I'll say we got it just about there. That's looking good. Close it back up. Now let's go ahead and undo our tension strap. That's going to be a strap on top here. That's what's going to hold our paddle board in place while we're on the road. You can undo it all the way or you can undo it halfway and just run your paddle board through it. I'm going to go ahead and undo mine all the way that way I can easily set my paddle board in place. Now I'll set the paddle board on the pad and just kind of work it down into the bed of the truck that way I can be sure not to scratch anything or damage the stand-up paddle board. Once the board is in there, I just want to kind of check my pad and make sure it's still straight and it remains in place. Then I'll grab my tension strap, run it over the top, bring my other strap up, run it through the buckle, and just pull it nice and tight. This is our test course. Let's start with the slalom. This shows side-to-side action such as turning corners or evasive maneuvering. Then onto alternating speed bumps. This shows twisting action such as hitting curbs, potholes, road debris, or uneven pavement. Last of all, the solid speed bumps. This shows up and down action such as driving through a parking lot or parking garage, or driving in and out of a driveway. That's going to complete our look at the Yakima Stand-up Paddle Board Tailgate Pad, part number Y04072.

The pad measures 30" long. This pad would work great for your board. You would have around a 3" overhang on each side of the pad.
