We did some deep drop fishing and caught a variety of deep sea species such as mystic grouper, yellow eye and queen snapper, plus a surprise amberjack. Deep water fish suffer from a not so RARE condition called barotrauma in which the air bladder of the fish cannot expel gas fast enough to meet the demands of the decreasing pressure as a fish is reeled up to the surface, and the fish end up throwing up their own stomach. I prepare 3 fish recipes using Hogfish (hog snapper), wahoo and yellow eye snapper/ mystic grouper. I made sesame crusted seared wahoo , which is one of the best tasting fish for a seared fish recipe. being i was his fishing partner and yet i was just 6 years old so he looked at me then the fish and he was 30 seconds from getting his knife and cutting the line rather then try and fight it himself but at a last moment change of mind, he got on his CB and my Dad got a hold of my Uncle and he pulled his lines up raced to our location in about no more then 5 minutes then he jumped in our boat let his partner take it away to let my dad fight the marlin. when it was time to boat it that is where i got scared shitless i dove under the bow where my Dad kept the life vests and started crying id hit my head on the dash of the boat trying to get to the vests being i could not swim and being i thought we were going to flip when the boat dipped so far on that side as they pulled it on board.
i think becouse of 1 id hurt myself and 2 i was frightened of the size of the marlin id never ever seen a fish go in the box and its head and tail are still sticking out.
i had said the funniest words a kid could say once they were putting the marlin in the ice box that was along the middle of the boat that went almost to the dash ..i had said "Daddy lets throw the big one back and keep the small ones (the remoras that fell off the marlin) my dad and uncle laughed their asses off at me and made a bet first one in cuts the fish well my dad was always a speed demon no matter what he owned it went fast so we beat him in and cut the fish .
