It seemed like a wave competition rather than skill. What John John did with a lot of really tiny dumpy marginal barrels showed a lot more talent skill and grit than the opponent who nails the most perfect and larger wave at the end. Should be also judged on what you can consistently milk out of a terrible wave, no?

LOL at the retards in the comment section, compare the last wave with JJ's 7.23. Flores easily disappeared for an extra 2 seconds, took off on bigger wave, and had a trickier double up section for take off. He won fair and square and this is coming from a JJ fan who really wanted to see him win pipe for once...

Watched from the beach. No way Flores' last wave scored higher than 8.00. John got robbed. This is shameful. Black eye for the WSL. No confidence in judging these events. WSL needs to correct, bring fairness to judging. Otherwise, the sport will suffer. My 16 year old son watched with me and his view of the WSL is substantially lower that it was at the start of the final day. Totally shameful when our youth see judging isn't fair!

When you look at John John's other barrels that didn't even make his top 2 wave scores they were equivalent if not better than flores buzzer beater. Shame. The judges should be required to provide the analysis on why they scored that wave SO much higher. It's sad to see, John John owned that heat the entire time, no question, he was robbed. Terrible judging from the WSL with no rhyme or reason explaining the unjustified flores buzzer beater score... tune me out, thank you.

mmmm my take on it is that if they let Jon win the heat there would have been a big uproar with the dodgy judging throughout the contest .. for example ethans loss agains jon ! so i think to make it fair they let jeremy have it so they dont look so bad ( world shame leauge haha love it ) . the judges and powers that be got what they wanted... that was jon to get a world title ... so they did not really care if he won the contest or not ! yes the whole comp was rigged ... but i guess it has to be for our enjoyment... the money to support this whole # would be broke # wsl has to go to the right channels to keep the circus going . so at the end of the day we can all watch the amazing surfing from all over the world for free !! so maybe stop complaining and let the circus go on ... because it has to be corrupt for us to enjoy it !! congrats JJF ... you did actually deserve that win in the final !! but you have the jeep already soooooo
