'The Island' aquascape maintenance and sand swap

Quick maintenance and update about 'The Island'. I have changed the sand over for more natural looking one, Fiji sand. White sand looked good on day one and never since.. I had to constantly siphon layers after layers to get it cleaned and in the end I gave up :) Also fish looked washed out every time they got close to the bottom. If you want to support me and my channel you can do so here: https://www.patreon.com/adriansaquatics https://www.paypal.me/adriansaquatics I am using Nikon D3300 which you can find below: http://amzn.to/2fNeMcV

Jason Yeung I agree, although the white sand looks nice it gets dirty fast and shows all the left over food and waste the new sand is way better.

well, that was the thing..vacuum.. once a week wasn't enough as it was getting dirtier by day and i hated the 'dirty' look of it

The trick is to vacuum a bit of the top every now and then and add new sand.
It keeps it looking nice.

yeah I saw your videos. The big problem I had was that it was getting very dirty, very quickly and it was an eye sore..

Thanks. I like the look of it, i use white sand quite a lot to add details to my scapes, like enhancing pathways and give the illusion of water courses. But that fiji can actually be used to enhance non-planted areas that are just suposed to look like real sanded areas.

Hi, thanks a lot. yeah it is very nice looking, not expensive at all, £16 for 10kg. My fish doesn't seem to look as 'washed out' as with the white sand...
