This aquascaping contest was a real blast and has grown every year since it opened. Aquatic Experience puts on great tropical fish trade show for both fresh and salt.... While I am not a big contest guy (your tanks are made for you) this is pretty sick to see these rolling. (Being "in the biz" I can't compete...which might be a blessing. I'm gonna get deep are you ready? I believe my purpose in life is to be the "Johnny Apple Seed" of the Planted Aquarium. Getting as many people into the hobby as I possibly can. They first try the aquascape at home. Then, they pack all of they'r decorations, livestock and aquarium and get to the place. Then they set the tank up there (:

Would love to get back into aquascaping, freshwater and marine once again now I'm in Nashville having moved from the UK. Good to meet you and I think your idea of a planted tank and aquascaping club is a great one, I'm sure there are more people just like you and I who would love to get together. I went to Aquatic Critter in the summer, may take another trip down - as my girlfriend and I have just moved really to the other side of town, Hermitage. I'm originally from the UK and used to get all my aquascaping stuff from this guy http://www.thegreenmachineonline.com/ you should check out his videos on you tube, he really knows his stuff and has some amazing tanks. His shop wasn't far from where I used to live.

I would love to get a planted tank/aquascaping club going in the Nashville area. Also, there is a really great aquarium shop in town called the Aquatic Critter.

how much does driftwood like this cost?

Some wood is more appropriate then others. I prefer these woods which are really hard, as they break down less over time and last longer. If you are collecting from the wild, what is nearby (i.e. power plants, sewage treatment, etc) and your preparation is pretty important. You need to remove soft spots as well as make sure you boil it well before adding it to a display.

+aguyandhiscomputer best time to look is after the floods or the rainy season. That stuff washes out to large piles of wood debris along the river or creek usually along shallows. Be careful though. Before reaching for anything, tap it with a stick, make sure there are no snakes in the wood pile.

Good idea. I mostly find logs out in the open so probably have to get into the thick stuff.

Driftwood can be absolutely free if you explore the outdoors right in your local watershed. Hike along a creek and keep eyes open. I have been finding sick looking drift wood that way.

it's in Chicago every year, the same weekend. Every day has its pros and cons, but Saturday is the longer show. The some of the tanks are raffled off on Sunday, which is cool too.

The show had a lot more freshwater this year and so many plants! Seems like there's more interest for planted tanks now. Im exited for next year already.
