Amazing. I was just thinking about what if I got some moss balls and layer them to make a carpet of sorts and here I see you used it in such a unique and interesting way. I hope you don't mind but I will try to aquascape my new nano tanks similar to yours. For shrimp I think they'll like it . I love it. Much love from here in Los Angeles

All the marimo was placed at the begging around 5-6 large balls. it grows super slow.

You 'drown' your Marimo balls with sand, or use something different?
Beyond Aquatic Design
Beyond Aquatic Design - 7 years ago
cut it and spread as carpet, fit snug int o crevices of rocks, if it still floats try tying it down with some thin0.5lb fishing string.

Great Tank, something different. Unique. Is it not hard to maintain the Marimo Algae? It looks like the Marimo on the forground will be catching all the dirt and debries. Also, how much did you spend with so much Marimo? Very nice presentation too on the video, the message it conveys to all the people out there. Not just an Aqua Scaping.

That is so kind of you, I am really surprised. You have helped me a lot already with your videos and all the answers you patiently given me with my unending questions. I searched and yes, we are about 6346 Nautical Miles far away, that is from Manila (capital of the Philippines) and from Manila to our place (Baguio City) is about 246 km. What I've heard from my Auntie is that it takes about 18 hours flight from Manila to California. Thanks, you actually understood my written English. Actually I struggle a bit in English writing, but I do check/edit carefully what I write. I think sending some Amano Shrimps will be too much of a bother, I'd rather not bother you with that. I have some RCS in my tank, they are cheap and are available in our LFS. And I think, it would be hard for the shrimps to survive the shipment, I never had any live item shipped in our place. I also wonder how the dealers in Manila ship (import) live items. I really appreciate your very, very kind offer.

LOL, I am nowhere near from California. Although, I have a lot of relatives from downtown San Francisco, Los Angeles, Cupertino, some in San Diego. I am from the Philippines. I live in Baguio City somewhere north of Manila. The highest city of the Philippines, our temp here is relatively colder than the rest of the country, that is why it is called the summer capital of the Philippines. Temp range here is 16 - 26 centigrade. I'm so sorry for making you think I am from somewhere there, I should have told earlier.

Thanks for the very good lesson, so it is okay to tie Marimo to a stone like a moss. This is really a good news, I'm very happy to learn from your experiences. Yup, I saw that you already uploaded a new video, does this means you are settled down already? Hope, your are. I am downloading the new video now, I am going to watch it later.

marimo will brown when you put something over it "a stone" but if you push it in to the crevices between rocks or wood it will attach it self with time like a moss. I always use a separate bucket to clean the marimo balls before using it in a setup that way all the loose floating particles won't float around and land on other plants. +  I always vacuum my tanks after working on them. to avoid the floating around problem I push into tight spots or tie them out to a flat rock. new video coming out today from one of my neglected tanks
AngTan Mor
AngTan Mor - 7 years ago
No problem, I just hope the bottom of the Marimo does not rot/die, in case I finally got my hand on trying it. One more concern I have with the Marimo, will it not scatter around the the tank? I have Java Moss in my tank will it not mix with it? Hope you get settled down soon in your new house.

Good to hear that. Thanks for the info. I will try to grow marimo that way in my tank, it is a low light tank. Hope you could setup a similar thank in your new place.

{algae in stone} too much light but balance was achieved super easily this tank i made to be able to use 6 bulbs I was using 4, balance was achieved using 1! 6500k lastly!! the vacuum every week problem, was fixed with a canister filter instead of the Aqua clear 30 it started with no more algae no more vacuuming and added cherry shrimp and 3 Corry cats ( amanos stayed in the tank till tear down.
AngTan Mor
AngTan Mor - 7 years ago
I was hoping it would be a very very low maintenance tank. I can see the algae in the stones, I'm trying my best to keep the algae out my tank also. I think tons of RCS would have helped with the maintenance. I am only interested with low tech, low maintenance tanks for now. The hobby should not be expensive. Hoping you are having a great day with your Fish Room and congrats with new house, hoping to see the videos soon. I will check your other accounts for now.

+AngTan Mor the tank did perfect super easy set up but as you said something similar I had to vacuum the carpet every week to reduce excess organic buildup which leds to algae!.
Shortly after 6 month of running I bought a house and had to tear down almost all my tanks,I couldn't pay attention to them. I am now working on my fish room and will have more videos to come. I also have instagram and face book

How long and how many cladophora balls did you use to properly grow this aquascape?
Beyond Aquatic Design
Beyond Aquatic Design - 7 years ago
yes just spread the cladophora ball apart in to a carpet. you can attach it to flat rocks with thin clear thread or push it between crevices! happy scaping!
