Alright I will keep this one short. I would love to try shrimp keeping along side my main tank. It would be simply a small 2.5-gallon tank to keep on my desk. I would use artificial plants and simple aquarium gravel. I would first cycle it with Neon Tetras and then introduce shrimp when I have a fully nitrogen cycled tank as I am aware they are delicate. I would not use live plants. Would this setup work?? and how often would it need cleaning??

Of course, it will work. Shrimp rely heavily on biofilm, so cleaning should be limited to a small percentage every other week or so. Be sure that your water supply matches the needs of the shrimp you select, or be prepared for trouble. Nano tanks can be great for shrimp tanks, but as a beginner it might be better to start with a larger tank which will provide a more stable environment... thanks to Therese N ;-)

Show me the same aquarium in 6 months, then I will be impressed. Anyone can set up an aquarium and have it look nice. It takes true talent to have a well balanced biotope that will still look great for years.

What this video does not address is light requirements, water circulation and quality (ph etc), fertilizer, and CO2.

Sorty, but the timelapse is terribly obnoxious. You just assume anyone watching this knows what you are doing. Seems that you are more interested in the artsy aspecto ofit rather than showing someone how to sucessfully set up and maintain a planted shrimp tank.

I like both the scapes and the video.
If the aquascaper is not professional,they look do look the part though.
I like timelapses like this,they're fun to watch and impressive.
The downside is that a beginner might look at this and think its easy,this speed takes away the complexity of the artists work.
He may not be professional but the scapes are masterfully done, and if done at a slower speed the video would also serve as a tutorial and show that this is not as simple to achieve as it looks.

i'am not sure why you would think something like this dangerous?? we are simply showing how to aquascape an aquarium and giving tips to anyone interested in this area. Anyone who owns an aquarium knows how much fun it can be to scape it yourself and these videos just give some ideas on what can be done whether you are a professional or its just your hobby. In this video for example the person scaping is not a professional. We are trying to show examples of how to scape and then include shrimps in that landscape. +ADU Aquascaping actually in some setups it depends on what you are putting in there as to how well it works if the animals are burrowers then it can get dangerous no matte rthe type of under gravel filter you use this tank looks like more of a swimme rtank AND with plants you get the first layer of filtration followed bu the different types of substrait BEFORE it goes through the filter head. to each their own but please reevaluate your info.btw i dont use one i use an air powered corner filter with a biosponge and custom made (by me) carbon filter with the scrubber on top and bio rocks with ceramic tubes in the bottom.it works great with my set up my fish and plants are happy and so are my MTS and micro pond snails!

this is an undergravel filter. it uses the bacteria in the substrate to filtrate the tank the water gets slowly sucked down and comes back out of the transparent tube

+cherepaha3 It#s imporant to know, that we actually set those tanks up for shrimp. and that tanks aren't only plant-tanks. we cultivate primarily shrimp and an undergravel filter is better for shrimp. even though it's not the best solution for planted aquariums.

+Evelyn Lee Barney that's Elmer's regular glue that was used for surgical use. Super glue was created from a botched attempt for clear sight housings during WWII. It's first use (super glue) was hanging things.

I don't know what he had - but i do know that superglue works to attach plants to wood and rock. Strangely, it's not toxic. it was originally developed for surgical use.

+Travis MacFarland substrates that are dirt or highly nutrient rich will lose effectiveness.

+Travis MacFarland no UGF strip the nutrients from away nutrient rich substrates over time. Or any other substrates that are high in CEC thus losing their effectiveness. It also limits the amount of plants you can select for your scape. Plants that are heavy root feeders like swords and crypts are require roots to extract nutrients from the substrate, and if you are using any root or ru tabs an UGF will pull said nutrients past the roots of these plants and will have zero effectiveness. In fact anything that can help your plants will be pulled down away from roots stunting their growth. You can use UGF buy it limits the plant selection you can add to your scape. Please do more research or jump on a forum and read for yoursekf. You can use them, they are old school but it is personal preference.

I think that he would have had to put down the soil like a triangular box with littles holes (in the back side) and with steps for the soil because with time the soil will go ahead for gravity effect and also to put a undergravel filter into the box
