Sweet! This color combo of blue or green body with yellow fins is called Mustard Gas. It is my favorite combo. Just picked up a female mustard gas Betta from Petsmart but males are not that common in pet stores. Usually have to order them from importers which sort of stresses me out.

Hey there! You must have a soft spot for the blue mustard gas betta, my husband does too. Got him his first fish recently a mustard gas half moon dumbo. It is note worthy that in our ten years of marriage all the many fish that we have had have been my choices, LOL. When he pointed it out I was ashamed! I loved female 3's vibrancy, and that male is gorgeous. Hope they quarantine well, and happy breeding.

Can't wait to watch your breeding endeavor. I have just one Koi female betta, but she eats from my hand and I love that. They seem to be really smart fish for their size. I saw a u tube where the person had 5 females and 2, this is the truth, 2 male bettas in a 40 breeder packed full of plants. They had bred and there were fry in the tank as well. I have trouble believing the males didn't kill each other, but no they just ignored each other. Anyway, like I said I am very interesting in seeing your results.

I like the more muted colors of the first female. The male seems to have the exact same color on the area you are concerned about. Just more than on his nares, and back. Fine looking, healthy fish, all.

Hi Bob! Sorry I'm just now getting around to commenting :). I like your bettas and I'm so glad you're getting into them!
I don't think that male and your fav female make a nice pair though, they don't balance each other out. By this I mean their form is both weak in the same area and both have excessive finnage.
That being said, you can do what you want! But I would recommend to find a fish that balances the other out.
For example, you could pair your male or female to a halfmoon with reduced rays and a nice head/back, or even to a plakat with good form. This would increase the likelihood of offspring with better form and less severe finnage.
Those are just my two sense! I could send you a fish if you're interested, but they're still fairly young and smallish. I have turquoise/gold plakats and Cambodian halfmoons.
HMMM, I might have a halfmoon plakat male who is a really nice metallic royal blue who could pair nicely with the female.

What are you doing to us Bob! Every time I watch a video I want to set up a tank and keep something new!

As for short cords, I use led floodlights on my tanks mostly, ordered one, came with a cord less than a foot long!

Your male has a twisted spine and a spoon face he's also a rose tail they have super hard time swimming thats why he looks like that the white on his face can be from him laying on his side to much or he could of scraped his face on a decoration. Also your first female is bloated give her to pea she's super bloated and looks kinda pineconie but they are super pretty

I was just like you and was never interested in bettas. Then I found out that shredded looking tails is a thing and I love them. Bettas are the Pokémon of the fish world...gotta catch 'em all!! I have Betta fever as well. I bought 3 males and one female. Imma have to get me some more females!! Lets have a contest to see which new Betta breeder is going to succeed. I have my trial run set for January as my male and female are still very young.

These Bettas are beautiful. #3 female is gorgeous. The male is stunning too but looks to be underweight. I'd be wary of breeding the male, being a rosetail they often have trouble swimming due to the extended rays which can often break. He looks like he's having trouble extending it already. Rosetails used to be culled due to the extend rays and issues swimming because of the heavy fins. Unfortunately they've become popular.

I think some of us betta breeders should team up and do a series for newbie breeders someday. I think that would be amazing.

The chihiros A series will definitely grow algae lol. Only downside it runs hot on 5-7th highest level. I've never had a finnex light but finnex seems to suck overall and then they charge more per light. Like the build of the finnex falls apart, flicking, etc. A lot of the aquarium stuff on ebay is good but IDK why people insist on finnex/current/etc more expensive lights :/ You don't have to pay a lot to do this hobby...I'm just really surprised and not surprised people aren't repping this light more. They even have a light that has more blue lights and then the chihiros A plus series is 5 light strips for $60. You can even buy the brackets for it too for about $5 if it's too bright.

I've had a Chihiros A for a year now and it's still going strong. I keep mine on the lower settings, they are extremely bright. Chihiros has a new "planted" version that looks interesting.

Beautiful Betta's Bob. Lol, I named my blue betta Bob, but that was a little while before I knew of you. I love female 3 for the male. The male may just have been bumped by a net but I'm no expert either. It could be anything, but I know he's in good hands. You will have a healthy fish in no time. Keep us posted on the spawning. I have the same light on my 21g and I love it! I wasn't sure at first, but I finally gave in. I didn't like how white the light was at first, but since my wood is kind of rotting on me and releases a lot of tannins, I like it now.
