Just so you know if your house isn’t constantly 78 degrees, you need a heater because Bettas are tropical fish, without it, their metabolism suffers and they may even eat less, move less and have less energy for everything. It’s like if your house was constantly 55 Degrees Fahrenheit- not comfortable and you might not continue your regular activities.

Just so you know, you can pretty much never go too big with bettas. Sure, a small minority might need a smaller area because they feel they can’t guard all their territory, but many bettas live perfectly in 20 gallon tanks, even with other fish. Your size is just fine. :)

Makena Marie I know most stores treat them terribly and don't care about any of their animals. They just exist to make the most money. And with betta fish, people buy them on impulse and just ask the clueless store employees or just buy the tanks "made for bettas" which are only like 0.25 or 0.5 gallons large. I'm sorry about that your friend's fish that died in the because the filter was too strong. I have a quarantine tank where the filter is to strong for the betta so I just turned it off and do 60% water changes on it every three days.

Beebo im glad too, my friend had a betta and i fell in love with him, and she just let him get sucked up into the filter and so it spread its blood everywhere and since then ive always wanted to just save all the bettas at the store and love them all but my mom said only one

Makena Marie The recommended minimum is 2.5 gallons, so your tank is fine. Just make sure you get a low flow filter and a heater because they are tropical fish so they need warmer water (76 - 80 degrees) and bettas can't swim well if the filter is too strong. And make sure to do water changes weekly and condition any tap water you put in it.

Betta fish are tropical fish and need heated water to thrive and live their maximum life spans :) a heater for a 3.5gal-5gal is very cheep and I highly recommend you get one for your fish. It's something that she needs so I hope you take it into consideration

I might sound stupid but I'm new too your channel... If Luna is a girl then you can house her with other female betas! You would have to upgrade the tank to a 20 gal plus depending on how many females you have in there! Also you should get a snail and please name him/her big Henry and big Bertha because snails can change there gender!

Just curious Paul. I bought what I thought was a 180g 6' long tank off OfferUp. Well I did my own measurements and it ended up being 135g 6x18x24. From were I'm sitting it looks like your tank maybe 5'lx18"wx24"h. It will matter when you by a canister or adequate filters. Those h.o.b u have just won't do it.I suggest either a fx-4/6 or to save and get about the same flirtation the sunsun 304b is a beast and under$100. Good luck!

The problem with pet stores is that they honestly don’t know the minimum tank requirements for fish.

They market Betta fish in 1 gal tanks but this is actually wrong.
The minimum for Betta fish is actually 10 gallons.

Their natural habitat is actually shallow streams that run on for miles. The misconception that Betta fish need small tanks is because of the shallow part.

But this is wrong. Betta fish can live up to six years if you take proper care of them.

Betta fish are more sensitive than people want to believe- too much ammonia, nitrite, or nitrate can actually kill them. They will start to lose their color, become lethargic- or sometimes the begin to dart around, they will stop eating. They could very easily get fin rot or ich.

Please consider this fact for future upgrades.

Poor leopard geckos and beardies on sand. They seem to take pretty decent care of their fish, but they really don’t do so well with their reptiles. In case anyone didn’t know, sand (no matter if it says “digestible” or not) can cause TONS of health problems for them, and is the leading cause of premature death with desert reptiles.
