Is it possible for a betta to get tail rot other than from ammonia? This happened to mine, but the ammonia levels were fine. As were other water parameters. Can't think of anything else, other than some kind of bad bacteria or parasite. Whatever it was, it wasn't visible.

J F stress sometimes causes fin rot if they aren't in a big enough tank or u do water changes to frequent , as far as a parasite or something like that it's possible but u would have to try and test for it Ik there are tests for some of them but not all

it was most likely water quality. probably not being properly cycled. keep up with water changes for the water quality. try to match the temperature of the new water to the tank's when doing water changes. it's usually a big shock if you don't match the temps especially in smaller tanks. good luck.

if the fin rot has stopped progressing using the vet treatment, the best way to regrow the fin faster is through nutrition and obviously good water quality. Feeding something more substantial than pellets. I was feeding him pellets, frozen bloodworms, daphnia, and newborn mealworms. newborn mealworms are nearly impossible to find unless you contact mealworm breeders, but you don't have to feed it. just varied diet consisting of more than pellets. you could also do live brine shrimp, or microworms.

Silent Fish Bowl the problem is with vet treatment is that they cure the infection but it doesn't seem to help regrow the fins. Are you in the USA? They don't sell Perox Aid in this country only normal hydrogen peroxide xoxox

My betta has a bad fin rot and I used bettafix for 7 days and I do not notice any changes. Hes in a 1 gallon quarantine tank now, but i recently bought 3 gallon tank with filter and live plants in it. I've cycled it for 1 week because I want to transfer him there. Do I still need to do daily water changes even though there's live plants there? Thanks. I will try this method today. It's his 7th day on bettafix, nothing happened. Btw, do you use substrate? they told me it can scrape their fins. But I need this for my live plants. Any suggestions?

to completely cycled a tank, it usually takes average of 6 weeks depending on the setup. it should start working pretty well after the first week, but not fully yet.

My betta is still active and eating and swimming around, i notice some growth a lil bit i couldn't find 35% anywhere i went to pharmacy and walmart and just found 3%, ill order online i guess. yea, I used substrate. plants with roots need nutrients in the soil. well, 3 gallons with filter and live plants cycled for 1 week is still not completely cycled yet. if your plants are growing and healthy, they will help with water quality. but if they are just there, but not growing, they won't help with water quality much. yes, I would still do small water changes each day, or every other day. I saw the tail regrowth happening around 10 days or so. so maybe you gotta wait a few more days and see. if nothing happens, yea try the hydrogen peroxide method when you transfer him to the new tank.

This is interesting,have you used this method for any other diseases like a funus? i have am angel fish with a couple white fluffs and have been using pimafix and melafix in the tank and applied it directly to the infected area with a q tip which there has been great improvement and the fish is more active but theres a couple area that are being stubborn and they are near the gills and eyes and not sure if i should try this. i have treated the tank for the second time now and have added slightly more medicine with minimal results. any advice would be appreciated.

hydrogen peroxide to the eyes or gills will damage the tissue. if you're periodically getting fungus, you might have to bomb the tank with anti-fungal medicine for a prolonged period of time. UV is the best at preventing fungus. might want to consider after they've healed. other things you might want to try is do bigger water changes than usual, and up the filtration. maybe get a second filter.

Everytime I tried to feed my Betta fish frozen bloodworms, he's get sick. He would stay in one area all day and then turn sideways at one point thought he was a about to die. I took him out, did a complete tank cleaning & he was back to normal. They say that feeding bloodworms or live food can end up with a Betta with Dropsy or Swimmers Bladder strange. I just feed mine Pellets and his happy to get that.

I usually prepare the bloodworms before feeding. I usually cut the cube into 4 pieces and use just one piece. drop it in a fine net and run tap water until they are all thawed and rinsed. then I use forceps to feed only the amount that he eats. usually dried bloodworms can give them siwimbladder.

in the beginning daily water changes of 5~25% for about 2 months. after 2 months, around 5% water changes every 3 days or so.

She won't do it if she doesn't want to, unfortunately. Depends on size of tank but frequent water changes and clean water always help betta heal along with nutritious food like shrimp and worms. I never used medicine on mine at all. Just kept Jim clean in a small container before putting him back in big tank. I'd tell that friend if she is going to get an animal she should take care of it properly and don't force it to suffer.

Hi, I see that in the Day 1 photo your Betta has kind of a white and red spot on the side of his head. My Betta has the exact same thing on the side of his face, and is currently struggling with mild fin rot. Does that coloration on the side of the fish's head have anything to do with fin rot / poor water quality, or is it rather its natural color?

I just saw Aqueon 2.5 on youtube. it's a capable little tank. however it's very small tank, so your number one priority will be small frequent water changes. that tank probably will "cycle" but it's such a little water volume, the filter can't remove everything for a whole week. The most important part is preparing the new water. in a separate container, use a thermometer and match the new water temps to your tank. you can use hot and cold water from the tap to do it. after matching the temps, use water conditioner that has the ability to remove chlorine, or chloramine, AND heavy metals(b/c of hot tap water). stir the new water very thoroughly and gently release it in to your tank using a cup. matching temps is especially important during cold months and big water changes. bettas are hardy fish and can "survive" for a long time. but for him to "thrive" you need a very good water quality. good luck.

2.5g is kinda small. how are you getting a filter in there? I don't think a filter in a small tank can deal with all the food you feed and all the poop betta makes for a whole week. I would do 25% water change every 3 days, or maybe 10% water change daily, or 15% water change every 2 days. and maybe once a month nearly 100% water change with temp matched and aged water.

it's just his natural color. I guess it's the way the picture came out. the cause of fin rot is 100% poor water quality. poor water quality can also cause fungus spots or infection spots. fungus is usually fuzzy white, and infection is usually reddish. sometimes if there's a high level of temperature fluctuations, that can cause the betta to get sick, too.

i started treating by fish with salt but 10 days have gone by since i finished the salt treatment and no fin regrowth is showing but Flash's fins are getting smaller and i noticed that a chunk of fin is missing. yea, if the fin rot is getting worse, it might be time to be a little more aggressive with the treatment than using just salt. try the hydrogen peroxide method. I don't know what your setup is like, but do more frequent water changes, too. I would prepare the water and age it for 2 days before using it. make sure the new water's temperature is the same as his tank water. also, another important part is providing him with nutritious foods. try live foods as main meals. feed little pellets and more live foods. live foods like daphnia, microworms, brine shrimp, or bloodworms. good luck.

if you hold him just out of the water with the net, he might jump or wiggle. if he does, lower the net so that he's in the water. then lift net again and see if he'll calm down. repeat this until he calms down. after he calms down you gotta apply the hydrogen peroxide very quickly. I applied it multiple times working quickly as possible. bettas are ok out of the water for a quite a while. just make sure his skin doesn't dry. if he still jumps too much, try lifting the net completely out the water. it's ok to lift him completely out of the water. the pros actually take the fish out of the water, put him on a damp towel on a table, and work it. If you're brave, you could do it like that. most important part is making sure his skin doesn't dry up. after doing this, your betta might not like you for a couple of days. but he'll get over it if you give him yummy foods. good luck.

if you get it on their gills or skin, it can destroy the cells. hydrogen peroxide breaks down into oxygen and water. completely harmless. they actually sell 30% strength at some fish stores. some people use it for killing algae.

your tank is fine. mine is a dirted planted bowl. It's takes a while for the plants to get established. for yours, all you gotta do is keep up with water changes and you'll be fine. established tank means there's healthy number of beneficial bacteria that takes care of the water, that completes the nitrogen cycle. basically a balanced tank. I don't think betta tank without a filter or plants can be established. however, it can be taken care of by water changes.

oh, I see. yea I think you can chop em up really tiny and he would eat it. I had to email a few mealworm sellers, and one agreed to sell me the newborn mealworms at normal size price. if your betta is heahlty though, good pellets should be plenty. Some people hatch daphnia and feed it, or I even heard that some leave a bucket outside for mosquitos to lay eggs and feed the larvae. I've done daphnia before, and bettas love it, but I've never had the courage to try the mosquito larvae, though.

+Vivienne Damone um, there's not much to make a video about it. I normally feed him Atison's betta food, new life spectrum betta food, frozen bllod worms, live baby mealworms(hard to find). I feed him until there's a little bulge in his stomach, not a big bulge. I mix his food. he also eats baby shrimps in the bowl, though, he hardly suceeds in catching one :) I think I actually witnessed just once, him catching one. do you have a specific question about betta food?
