+Brianna Harter Uh no, it's actually really easy to do it i've done it tons of times. And it doesn't matter if there is no aeration the plants oxygenate the water fine, as all my fish are healthy and active and i don't see them gulping at the surface. And fyi, plants grow, so if your current plants are healthy, the will spread so eventually u will have enough plants for a filterless tank. Its so easy. And you can actually have a soil tank, but don't need one for a filterless setup

but there's also water movement in the wild as well the wind and filtration happens through soil and evaporation.the times you don't have this water movement in the water is in stale water .but it also could depend on what plants you have as well as how heavily planted your tank is and many other factors like how often you feed your fish,how many you have,their size,lighting and many more.but for the most part not everyone is going to have enough plants to do the job because not everyone is good at aquascaping or does as much aquascaping and for those people they need a filter.also beneficial bacteria are found on every surface in the wild not just plants.

Plants do A LOT of filtration even more than filters, many people (myself included) have planted tank with no filtration at all, and ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate are at 0. And where do u think beneficial bacteria lives in the wild, not in filters, in the substrate

not true even if your tank is planted the tank still needs a filter to keep the beneficial bacteria alive and healthy and to help filter out debris.plants do help but scene tanks are closed systems they need proper filtration and regular water changes.all plants mainly do is oxygenate the water and help a little with the beneficial bacteria but only as much as all the other tank decor.
