Betta Fish gets a present

Yikes... I got some not so nice responses. My Beta HAS A REAL Aqurium to live in now. He no longer lives in the jar shown in the video. That was a short time place for him to live in until we got him a real place... again the his new home is not shown. His name is Beta.

Did you know that #facepalm is not unique to humans? "This gesture is not unique to humans. A group of mandrills at the Colchester Zoo has adopted a similar gesture to signal the desire to avoid social interaction or to be left alone" per Wiki.

Recently, right before my mom died my late father & her late brother were in the room three of us. She was talking to all of as if we could see the two dead people she was talking to at the same time. It was really amazing. I was the only one not freaked out about it and was really pleased to know my dad was going to be right there with her. He was telling her it was time. She did't want to die. She told him she wanted to take her purse. Funny. She looked at me and said she had to go now.

My beta fish all jump high. See my video of one in its travel case jumping for food off a pencil end. She is up to several inches now. The smaller the tank the more often the water changes and the closer you need to test that water. So I agree with you... get a big one for the little guys.

No. Fantails are really dirty fish. I love mine. See my videos on this site. They need a lot of room, a filter, 25% water changes a week, water testing kit liquid is best.

Ask you local pet store which heater is best for the tank you are getting and what setting to put it at. Make sure you also get a themometer for the side of the tank so you can make sure the heater is working and not over heating the water.

any time is good. If you don't know when their birthday is just pick one for them. For our 5 year old goldfish (see other videos on this site) we picked St. Patrick's day. I know I got her in the spring time I just couldn't recall the day. Plus she is friendly like the Irish.

Thanks... so then I had to look up this Quxxn. Though I do enjoy some Simms I had not seen her site. And yes we do sound a bit alike. I wonder where she is from. ... hum. I study accents. I can usually tell where someone is from in the US and often can narrow it down to the state. On a good ear day I can even pick a town or city especially in NYC or Southern states. International accents are pretty easy for me as well. Though the slovic countries are difficult.

RONG! they arnt japanese, the rice puddles you speak of are BIG! like the size of a walmart parking lot, and bettas do just fine in bigtanks aslong as the filter doesnt blow all crazy, they like calm water and lastly thye are a tropical fish 1gal is too small for a heater, 2gal minimum, you keep yours in a vase cause your cheap, same reason every 1 keeps them in the $20 kits, just plain cheap

Dear stupid head, Betta fish live in rice paddies yes, but they are at LEAST 100 gallons of water. And bettas cannot live in vases because of the high ammonia levels so basically it been living 3 horrible years with you, a person who thinks they know, but doesnt. read up on betteas. they are supposed to live in at LEAST a 10 gal tank. and ppl stop complaining.! jeez she moved it into a tank! it was just for a SHORT TIME. Unlike this guy ^ who is making them live in it for THREE years T_T

You need a heater to keep the water temperature at a constant temperature, it helps the betta fish not get sick so easily.

No, their natural habitat is 120 gallons of water..... betta fish dot com shows the real photos of them.
Eternal Skyy Costumes

The shallow rice paddies are 3 feet deep and 120 gallons of water..... All the fish I see in tanks with heaters and filters live many more years and are more active in large tanks. They don't get as sick as easily and their fins and colors grow out to be more colorful than in anything under the requirements of 2.5-5 gallons of water.

Actually, your facts are mostly myths. Rice paddies are not shallow puddles but rather very long, decently deep, pools. Betta fish naturally live in slow-moving streams and rice paddies. They are not from Japan and thus are not Japanese fighting fish. They are from the Thailand region. While these fish have amazing survival abilities that does not mean they are living a good quality life, so a vase or 1 gallon bowl will not do.
tekphnx
tekphnx - 12 years ago
Actually, that's exactly what I do. I adopt my fish from fish shelters (yes, such places DO exist!), and refuse to buy them from stores for exactly this reason. I refuse to support the system because it is so tragically broken.

@OoWhiteChocolateoO LOL, just because something lived in the wild in such conditions doesn't mean they should even when there are better conditions available. There are tribal people living in the jungle in the wild with no electricity, living in wooden/mud huts, and get their food off of the land NATURALLY. Bettas can have a large tank, not something like a 50 gallon but a 5 or 10 gallon is a nice and comfortable home for the rest of its life. Your betta is alive but not thriving. Learn.

Dear everyone bitching at her for putting her fish into a jar, In the wild, the betta/Japanese fighting fish live in small, shallow rice puddles and feed on insect larva. Bettas arent supposed to have large tanks like other fish. Big tanks are too spacey and the betta feels unsafe. A simple 1gal vase or tank will do. My 3 year old betta lives in a vase with 1/3rd filled with rocks and bamboo growing out of the top.

@Joeink100 I understand your point. The video should have been shot after he was moved to the bigger tank. But the part I wanted to capture was his happy wee face getting a big present. Betta fish are shipped in tiny bubble wrap. The fish is shrink wrapped in plastic, then air and a little water was added. They may stay like that almost unable to move and medicated with Gish tranquilizers for. Days and weeks to big chain pet stores.

@fanofaestallings Most Bettas are kept in small spaces, yes, but do not live a full life. They live a life of suffering and pain. Pet Stores sell Betta Bowls to get people to buy the fish. Those fish live for years, huh? Compared to a healthy Betta that lives 10 Years with proper care. So sad that your Betta is suffering. Cheers!

@nIcKo1508. Are you trying to say I am pronouncing the name incorrectly? I think you se correct. From what I could find most people ( including me) pronounce it like the Greek alphabet letter... a ling a for the e with a short t and then the uh sound. Instead it is really part of an Asian language and is translated in such a way that the a be pronounced as an short e sound like in egg, two TS, and an e like uh. It is too late for me to change! Thanks for the input.

I've seen these fish live for years. As far as this video it wasn't made for YouTube. It was just filmed because it was Christmas morning and we got our fish a tank for Christmas. When I posted it I didnt know about public settings ... got lots of views.. posted more home videos.

@fanofaestallings Betta fish breathe air to allow them to stay in still ponds, and in small jars They are also carnivores and will only bite at roots or plants out of despair. Chances are the water had been changed routinely or that plant would have been dead within two weeks, followed by that fish. The average male Splendens' territory covers an average of 3 gallons and does best in 1.5- 5gal more is a waste; less is a risk. Yours is very pretty and I'm sure he's quite the spoiled rascal! (:

How can you talk to a fish as a fellow being and yet keep it in a crappy pickle jar? You need at least 10 gals per betta and give him some rocks and plants... my betta loves attention and NEVER flairs if he flairs its cause he hates you, and just because some people are cruel and keep then in cups doenst mean a jar make you a good person its still crap.

@carlaxxchaoticc I don't know that they all like it, but my betta Miko lives in a 1.8 liter bowl and he loves it. He flares when I let him play with "Toby" (his reflection) and he's been making a wonderful bubble nest all week, its really coming along. I almost hate to clean his bowl cause I know he'll just have to start over. This bowl allows Miko room for all his rocks, a few plants, and all the swimming room he wants. He even comes to me when its time to eat. (little pig boy!!)

Beta fish tend to eat small bits of food shaped in a tiny spheres. Mine does not eat flake food. A good pet store should be able to help you. Seems like worms are for other kinds of fish or nutes/water lizards. Some brands of Beta food actually make the color of the fish brighter. Hope this helped.
