Betta fish dancing for each other. I don't get around to respond to all/most comments, but I'll try to answer what I can here. This is a male and female mating pair taken from a neglectful owner who purchased about 50 betta fish with the intent to breed them for profit and could not care for them. They were kept in tiny plastic containers which caused them a great deal of stress. Once they got in my tank, they did wonderfully. The male is flaring to show his interest in the female, and soon they were taken to a mating tank where he built a little bubble nest and they had their fun. I got the tank from PetsMart or PetCo, can't remember, and it came with a divider. I no longer have fish (this was filmed years ago). If you have problems with your fish, I recommend Googling for answers. One plant is real, the others are soft and gentle plastic, and his fins were damaged before I got him. Both fish were imported from Asia via mail. The filter was gentle enough to not bother either fish and had no current, and in fact they really seemed to enjoy it. I fed them frozen bloodworms and gave dried brine shrimp as treats, and sometimes even regular tropical fish food as treats, too.

Just got my first betta fish today! .... Actually, I got two! One is Bright pink with purple spots, white face, and a red tail... (name=Jaws ). The other one is half midnight black with Royal blue the rest of his body and tail. He also has light blue and red hightlights on his tail. He looks fairly patriotic. (name=Caspian) I love my babies, they are both a pretty good size. Believe it or not, i actually got them at petsmart. :) They are both crowntail males. :P I talk a lot.

@200smiley Some males just don't flare very much. Are conditioning them correctly (giving high protein food for 1-2 weeks before spawning)? Sometimes floating a female in the males tank will get the to flare, but some males just won't...

Fantastic creatures you've got! I am a betta keeper myself and I take care of 12 adults and over 300 babies, but none of them got such brilliant color as yours do....May I know which country are they from? Mine adults are all from Thailand.

@killkayla They don't want any current at all when making a bubble nest. Remove the filter and keep the tank in a quiet place in the company of his lady and hopefully he gets the idea.

I am haveing trouble getting my male to build a bubble nest, i think it might be the temp or the current is to strong, i have a 5 gal takn w/ a 10 gal filter, what do you think?

I have a Betta - his belly is all swollen -- i tried giving him a pea; it's noit dropsy, scales are not popping out - he behaves normally but it looks like he swallowed a marble. Any suggestions? Thanx

there we go! i will repsect your mother if she would talk to me the way you do. Anyways, the main thing was that i actually put her in a 5 gallon to see if she liked it more. Like, you never know if they want bigger spaces to live in or not ya know? I thank you again for being respectful.

you can put only one male betta in tank with other fish as long as the other fish are established in the tank first. otherwise the male betta will think the whole tank is it's territory and might kill fish added afterward. female betta's are community fish but they also don't have the nice finnage the male's do or generally the coloration, though i did have a purple female betta once.

Betta fish came from Cambodia and Thailand.. Well guess what, I'm Cambodian and my dad used to take care of betta in Cambodia, and he didn't need any filter or heater since that place is so damn hot.. But anyway, he just kept a betta fish in a Jar and clean the water atleast once a month, and that fish lasted 5 years.. I'm being real. i also am taking care of bettas right now, I don't have a heater but I do have a filter.. 4 bettas with dividers and a filter. They look happy. Hope they are.

No, no fish at all should be confined to a bowl, unless it's a big bowl and has a filter in it, such as a sponge filter. If you want a bowl, plant it and put shrimp in it.

The divider is removable, so it can be one tank or divided.

Agreed. I think it's awesome that they're in a tank with a FILTER, though! Every Betta should be in a heated, filtered tank with real plants. :D

Beautiful... my mom saw the male betta, and she was wowed... we have 3 :) I have 2 back at my apartment where I go to college, and I left one with my parents, and they adore my betta :)

thats a butterfly super delta tail OR maybe even a halfmoon but i doubt it, hard to tell because of the finnage loss. did he bite his tail did u fight him with another mail or did it get fin rot? looks like tailbiting to me still nice tho you s hould spawn him and get a softer pump for him and some live plants

I'd say not, because you have to closely monitor the pH, ammonia and other levels of the water, including temp. Harder than cats or dogs.

A neighbor ordered about a hundred fifty from vietnam and other places, from their native habitat, with the intent to breed them. He neglected them and I tried to help by cleaning their tanks and feeding them, but as soon as they went home, he neglected them again and they all died. I was devastated, and I'm still shocked.

I can tell you don't know much about bettas. One is called a male, and the other is a female. The males show off for females so they can mate. Mating perpetuates the species, not destroys it. They are what's called a "mating pair". It takes two, baby.

It seemed good at first, but a few months after I bought it, cracks were starting to show, even though I was gentle with it. Maybe it was just that one tank, but who knows?
