Betta tank, how to keep multiple fish in 1 tank

This is my most recent betta tank. I have followed all the general rules about keeping Fighters, apart from 1..... Not to keep more than 1 Betta per tank. General rules include - live plants (floating), smooth rocks and subtrate, NO PLASTIC PLANTS, only silk, lots of hiding places, Almond leaves (these are a must, although there is no scientifically proven evedence for the advantages of using these, they really do work, ask anyone interested in keeping Bettas) Cycle the tank first! Bettas might be laberinth breathers but the air supply is a small fact when they are living in their own waste. i could live in a bath of my own waste but i would become quite ill if left there for a while. Bettas are hardy fish but this should not be taken for granted, regardless what your local shop says, no matter how much they think they know, its probably not right for your individual tank set up. YOU need to understand the perameteres of your tank. My Bettas were introduced over a about 2 months but the cycle was started by tetras. i now have 3 bettas (1 vail, 2 crown) 3 leppord corys, and 3 large shrimp, foregive me, i cannot remember their name. This set up seems to keep the cycle in the tank almost perfect, the subtrate is always clean and the fish very happy. i know most people will say i should not keep the bettas in the breeding units but they are rotated, 1 free swimming, 2 in the units and are rotated every 2 days. (with out fail) this seems to work very well, none of the fish have displayed unusual behavour, being in the holding units or when released in to the main tank. They swim freely around the whole aquarum and do not stay attached to confined areas. The only admission i have with the set up of this tank is that i tried to introduce 8 cherry red shrimp about a week ago, thinking they would do a good job of cleaning the tank, i had not done my research and soon found out that Bettas love anything with small legs, coloured red and in the shrimp family!haha they didnt last even 1 hour! BAD mistake although my Vail Tail Betta had a good hunting trip. In conclusion this set up seems to work, although i know many people will hate the fact i have fish living in the breeding traps they are rotated and very well looked after. Please post your feelings and any suggustions or critisms you have. Like i said i am fairly new to fish keeping and any advice is well appreciated. Happy Betta keeping MM

It's the number one rule for a reason. One per tank please.

My betta live happily together without dividers in a 50 gal, plus plastic plants and a red eared slider.

I was worried  he'd eat them the first few weeks but now after seeing them brush up against his face I have no worries.

I wish I would have seen this a few weeks ago. I have 1 male veil tale that I was keeping in my 30 gallon with all my other fish. He freaking HATED it. I was always a believer in the more space the better, but he wasnt eating anymore, he struggled to get to the top to breath and his colors started to turn muted. So I scoured for a solution and finally my LPS dude offered me a deal on a breeder box. Now Optimus is happy healthy and his colors are coming back!! He's much happier in that little box

I am looking to do something for when I go away but I am not sure if they will get the food as it will be on an automatic timer , attached to the main tank . Can food get into these boxes from the side ?

i feel sorry for the bettas they such little space plus if a betta even has eye contact with a other betta it can be really stressful please get them there on little tanks where they dont have eye contact

if ur Betta's swim, eat and play in the same tank. u must keep them in an olympic pool. even in a 120ltr tank I have seen Fighters find eachother and..... well do what they do!! u ever seen a Betta after a fight? they look like worms as there are no fins left!!! not good

This habitat was perfect for tue fish at the time, I actually added 2 more males to this tank before I moved house and had to break the whole thing down, giving away all but 1 of my Betta's. I hope u guys have better luck with your tanks. Fighters are easy to keep! But very hard to look after properly. Please, please out of respect fot the fish only buy good qualiylty, well bread Fighters. Otherwise the hard work that has gone into breeding these amazing fish will just go to pot! x

Although Bettas live in wild in small pools of water I think 20-30L for one fish is kindest thing

I think you mean one male per 10 gallons. Give each male their additional ten gallons and 5 females and they should o exist as long as they have plenty of places to mark their teratories.

yea i doubt they like that at all! lol

This video was just to show my current Betta set up, i did not add femails to this tank as they would only upset the males if kept togethet. These male Bettas are not here to be shown off, they are an example of what you can find in your local fish outlets. The small blk one is a butterflied tail, small crown tail with red and black colouring, and i got him in the local fish shop. Goes to prove you can get something pretty decent if you look around. The rule is not to keep two MALES together. Ive been keeping bettas for years. Male and female pick at each other during mating. Multiple females can be kept together easily
