P.S neon and cardinal tetras are different
The Betta is definitely the boss and likes to chase the other fish sometimes, but overall he's really good with them and has never attacked them.

I get some guppies and a betta in a 10 gallon tank
and I really want to keep there a male Betta, 3 pearl guramis and some guppies, would it work? Can Bettas and Guramis coexist?
I have no idea I've never had neither.
Also some Corydoras :)
I'd really appreciate some help :)
I've had my betta fish for about a little over 3 months and he is very playful and docile. About 2 weeks ago, I noticed that his 2.5 gallon was getting brown algae so I thought he needed to get a tank mate that is a bottom feeder. I did research and I came down to choosing either otto catfish or ghost shrimp. However, the biggest I can go for a tank was 5 gallons. I was able to get in contact with another youtuber that owns more than 5 betta fish so I asked for advice. They suggested to get the shrimp for the 5 gallon because it wouldn't be enough room for the catfish.
A week ago from today, 4/2/17. I bought 2 japanese algae eating shrimp (petstore ran out of ghost shrimp) because I already had the 5 gallon tank and was ready to start the process. I first put the shrimp in the tank before the betta. After a good while of the shrimp calming down and not swimming around so fast, I was able to put my betta in the tank. There was chasing but nothing so aggressive because my betta, Henry. He would chase it for a few seconds then turn away because he was just curious. As if he saw another fish for the first time in his life. (When I bought him, he was only 6 months old so to me he is a baby)
I kept an eye on them. I saw Henry that his fin was nipped but I was pretty sure that had happen because of me cause I was taking too long to pick him up with the fish net and most likely stressed him out. Still, I kept an eye on them, No aggressive fighting and it seemed like everything was fine.
Second day came, Henry got a nipped on his fin again. That was his second one and I was too scared to see another one. So I set up his 2.5 gallon where he was originally in and made sure to separate him from the shrimps.
I have a couple theories why he was getting nipped.
1.) Henry and one of the shrimp are the same size. Could the shrimp size affect the nipping?
2.) Shrimps were not EATING. I gave them cory wafers, pellets and flakes that Henry wouldn't eat. They weren't eating what was being left over so.... Could the shrimps attack my betta because of hunger?
3.) Tank size. Could this mean that 5 gallon tank was not enough room for the 3 of them together?
This is what I thought of.... I'm still glad I had separated them cause when I did. There wasn't anymore nips and Henry started swimming around more actively again.
However, I did notice something today, 4/1/17, Henry's nip has a third but close to his first nip. I'm guessing it's from a plastic plant that I had in the 5 gallon but transfered it to 2.5 with Henry to have more "hiding spots". I immediately took it out. I'm not sure if I ever want to try again with Henry and tank mates but maybe in the far future when his fins heal, I can try again.
I'm fixing the "no eating" event from shrimps cause I bought a marimo ball and algae waffers. I'm super hoping that they will like it. I will be testing it out tonight.
Please, I need advice and some sort of fact of where I went wrong with my betta and my shrimps? Cause I don't want my shrimps to claim the 5 gallon tank, I've been researching cobra gubbies but I won't buy any until I know what went wrong with the betta and shrimps so I won't make the same mistake with the gubbies and shrimp. Please, your advice will be so helpful.
Thank you for takning your time to read my long message. I hope you have a good day or night!
I had a pair of (young)yoyo loaches with a betta for awhile(they were going to be moved in with the big fish when they grew up). They were fine, for 4 or 5 months, when one morning I woke up seeing the betta laying on his side on an anubias, with the two loaches nipping at his fins, which were now maybe half what they had been(they grew back even more beautifully, actually. He is a crowntail).
So just curious how long this has lasted?

Would the be better with pairing? Or is there no difference?
so should i put guppies and plates in the tank?

I just looked again today after having the tank sit in a garage for about a week, (with nothing in it), that the sealant is essentially gone on all of the corners. What all do you need to reseal a tank?
