I wanted to make a video to highlight the grace and beauty of my red koi betta fish pair. They are a pair I bought at Petco. Currently there are no plans for breeding as I need to evaluate if they are a good pair. They were originally mislabeled as the wrong gender when I bought them. That is a hard question! Right now, black with a white butterfly band is my favorite color, but I change my mind a lot : )

oh my kasia! that is a rare one only 5 percent of male koi betta had a koi pattern like that females had the most only pattern like that some male koi are almost like galaxy that is a rare one you got lucky!

Juanita Munevar Deathco (Petco) has a couple every now and then, I actually got one today (I've been looking for two years and finally found an acceptable good looking one and bought it and it was at Deathco!). Butter up to one of the employees and ask when their betta shipments come in and when they put them out on the shelf. Get there on that day to get good pickings.

Petco does not care well for their bettas so they look good when they come in but you wait a couple-few days they go downhill in those awful cups quick. Our Petco go theirs in last week and they are already very bad, a few dead in the cups too, plus everybody snatches the goods ones and the culls are all that's left

If you bought them at the same place at the same time, they could be siblings that you are breeding. There's nothing wrong with it as breeders often do it to keep the same traits, but just letting you know that the possibility of them being siblings is there seeing as they look identical......... and with breeding of the same line, you will have fry's that could have a higher chance of genetic defects such as bent spine, bad health, etc. With that said it won't be a huge problem or anything, just wanted to point out that they could be from the same spawn, tis all.

Bob J-M Gervais from what I know the marbling of Bettas is always going to happen. As a child, you keep growing, and as a betta, you will marble. So I’d assume that you can’t stop the marbling process without stunting the growth or doing something unhealthy to your betta which I do NOT recommend.

They are wonderful. The one downside is because Koi are a type of "marble" betta..they will change their color over time and might loose the "koi" pattern

Are koi bettas just as hardy as regular $4 bettas at petco? Thinking of getting a koi betta, but wasnt sure if they were more sensitive. love your videos!!

They're almost exactly the same :) However that doesn't mean any betta is suitable for a bowl. Try to keep it 2g and over with the water around 78 or 80 degrees, filtered too.

The only difference is that Koi Bettas are Marble Bettas..this means that over time they might completely change color because they have whats knows as the "jumping gene" for color.

Creative Pet Keeping hold up. My Rosetail flares but he doesn't have a beard, he has like 2 little stubs puffing out from him gills

They do! They just dont have the "beard" under their gills like males. Its rare BUT some females will also make bubble nests. I suspect it is because juvenile bettas can change genders so this might affect a growing bettas behavior.

Hey! are you considering breeding them? they are a great pair (they are 100% male and female). their colours are beautiful and form is great! would make some great babies. when i bred my koi pair, it resulted in a lot of koi/cellophane and some blue with red bi colours which was cool! you should breed them for sure!

its really rewarding!!! and a 55 gallon tank would be perfect for raising the fry! i highly recommend you breed them! they are beautiful !!! and the girl is beautiful!

I'm REALLY tempted to try. I just need to prepare myself. I COULD sell my last 3 african cichlids and this will free up my 55 gal as a potential grow-out tank.

If you look closely the female has teal and blue speckles on her as well..they are very subtle but the camera picked them up at 1:07 :D I'm glad you like them
