Do your guppies nip at your betta's tail? Mine seem to, but only at feeding time, and I only just noticed it. I made the mistake of feeding my betta first instead of the guppies, and they surrounded him and nipped at his tail while he was getting his pellets. I don't know if this is an ongoing nipping problem or just the one time, as Agent ate the crap out of his tail before I put him in the community tank, so I can't tell if there are any new tears.

Hi! We are starting a 10 gallon community aquarium with our male Betta fish Duke. We want to have guppies and maybe mollies. We aren't interested in breeding the livebearers, but will getting all males be alright? I just don't want the males to fight, I'm not sure they will since there will be no females but I just wanted to ask. If they will fight, we could get females I just prefer the males for the coloring and they are much easier to find. Thanks so much!

Got a pretty unique problem here...don't know if anyone can help me with this? I have a community tank (Platys, Neon tetras, Striped Danio, red-eye tetras and a common loach) and they have all been coexisting happily for about a year now with very few problems/signs of aggression. A couple of days ago I decided to introduce my male betta into the tank (also had him for about a year in a separate tank by himself), I have had success before with bettas in community tanks and because I have known my betta for about a year now I also know that he is not an overly aggressive fish, nevertheless I had a few worries, namely that he had been in isolation so long and wouldn't take well to other fish and that a couple of fish (in particular one female Platy and a couple red eye Tetras) were quite big and could perhaps trigger a reaction in him. I set him up in a little plastic tank and stuck it inside the aquarium so he could see the fish and get used to them without actually being able to get to them. As I predicted he flared at a couple of the bigger fish but otherwise seemed very interested in his new environment. After a couple of days I released him and let him explore, again he is a really docile fish for his species and while he did occasionally flare he never made an active effort to chase any of the fish, even allowing the fish he was flaring at to get very close to him, so all good there. I left the tank for a while and came back a couple hours later to find my betta skulking behind the filter, quite odd considering that he is quite a curious fish, and as I continued to watch I saw two of my red-eye Tetras chase him around the tank and nip at his fins! Even one of the neon Tetras joined in! Not wanting him to ruin his fins I quickly pulled him out and put him back in his "observation tank". Has anyone ever experienced this? Where other fish in the community tank attack the betta instead of the other way around? Never had a problem with the tetras showing aggression before, is it just a case of territory?

Perhaps someone can help me. I had a Betta (male veil-tail) in its own tank for a while and then I had gottena bigger tank and added two ADFs to it. It came with a barrier so I kept that in the tank so it separated the Betta from the frogs. That idea lasted a few days because I woke up to the frogs on Betta's side of the tank. Not sure how Betta like that so I took him out and put him back in his original tank and it's sitting next to the frog tank. Will I still be able to get these three to live in the same tank or did I screw things up with the divider? Now knowing that the barrier doesn't do much for the frogs it's gonna have to go anyway. Any tips?? I love the clear divider! I wish mine was clear. Probably would have been a better idea than my stupid black one!

dreamsicle8583 betta fish and dwarf frogs usually get along great so I don't see why you need the divider at all unless your Betta is just particularly aggressive. If you don't see him harming them then it's probably totally safe

Hello! I know you probably won't be reading this, but I am new to Betta keeping, and was wondering if you could give me a few tips.
Im going to give my betta a 20 gallon planted tank, (im also new to plants, but have done hours on hours of research) and I will have a single betta in there. I was wondering if that was to much space for the betta, as I see most people have a 2.5-10 gallon tank.

Mr. Bubbles is more peaceful so he gets to be with the guppies whom he wont try to nip so he gets to hang out with them. I am going to make a new divider and give Demon Betta more space.

I have a 10 gallon with an algae eater 5 guppies (one gave birth today) two zebra danios and a small algae eater. Could I get any more zebra danios to school them and not over stock the tank?

Guys my betta fish died yesterday ;(
He had ich 3 days ago and we couldn't treat it because it was Christmas then when we got the medicine he got fin rot we tried everything medicine and AQ salt but he sadly passed and now my other betta had ich too help me please what do I do? (2.5 gallon tank,heater, and filter)

A Friendly Duck daily 50% to 25% water changes is what worked well for my betta with serious clamped Fins and fin rot, and continue treating him with the recommend dosage of ich meds. You
Can give his epsom salt baths but I find that sometimes it does more harm than good. Because it does sting and is painful for them, but it is also a good way to disinfect. Either way it's hard to tell with fish you have to just hope they pull through.

You should try and give it Epsom salt baths, Make he temp exceed over like 80F, and clean the tank often. Don't use any equipment on any other fish! They can get it. I lost a whole batch of fish due to ich when I didn't have enough supplies. So I hope it works for you and good luck! ;3

sword v you could keep no more than a guppy per 2 gallons and stick to a ratio of 1 male guppy per 3 female guppies, as this makes the males less likely to fight each other for a mate. You would need at least a ten gallon tank though. If you only have room for a five gallon tank, then try shrimp, snails or a betta. If you wanted to you could divide the tank too and keep 2 bettas.

sword v guppies are still very active though, so a five gallon will stress them out because they dont have enough space to move around. If you have another tank to put guppy fry in, you may as well keep your fish in there (assuming its larger than 5 gallons)

sword v then if your planning on breeding you need at least a ten gallon tank, even better a 20 gallon. Breeding them in a 5 gallon will not give the guppies enough room to swim around and they will get stressed, plus the bioload will be too high.

I strongly advise against that. Guppies are very active fish and don't do well when only given such limited space. Some people have successfully kept them in 5 Gallons, but another factor is that they breed like crazy. So, you'll end up with a lot more Guppies than such a small container can handle. Add a Betta, you're not only pushing your stocking limit, but introducing a highly territorial fish. He'll most likely kill all of the guppies, because he's only given such a small territory, and doesn't want anything else in it.

Instead, you could get just a Male Betta. Try to get one that is big, like a King Male, or a Dumbo, so that it doesn't seem like such a little fish for a big tank. Then, get a few Ghost Shrimp. If he eats them, oh well, they're what, $0.49 a piece? If not, move onto a more expensive variety. Your tank will look stunning, with maybe 15 Red Cherry Shrimp and a Betta. You could probably try for a Tiger or Zebra Nerite Snail too. Add some plants and you've got a beautiful new tank!

Dead set on the guppies? You could probably get a trio of females. However, if any of them have been around males in the pet store, they're probably going to be pregnant. You're going to want to have a plan to sell all of your baby guppies.

If you dont want the guppy fry to live though, you can take out any hiding places for the fry so the parents will eat them. You could just do a one gender tank instead so they do not breed though.

You could probably pull it off it you did 20% water changes every other day or more often.. but you can always get a sponge filter! It will work with your air pump and wont create a current.

i researched and turns out he has a swim bladder infection i checled the pictures of bettas with it and it's exactly what mine looks like and the cite had said double tail bettas are more prone since there body's are smaller so i think thats what my double tail betta might have there is really no cure but im going to try my best to help it

You might have to upgrade your goldfish to a bigger tank as it grows. The 10 can then be used for a nice community tank! The recommended minimum for a goldfish is 20 gallons but more is better :D

I have a question. I recently just had my female guppy give birth to about 20 fry. But on the internet it said they mother would eat the babies. While keeping an eye on the tank she never went after them and ate them. Should this be something I'm worried about?

i had a guppie give birth to 49 once. separate the mama and babies if you want the babies to live. if the mamas not eating them shes probably still giving birth. they can pause for an hour or two then keep going. i wouldnt worry to much
