What people don't know is that if you are careful the Betta's and goldfish can get along. Also to everyone complaining scientific research shows that a fish needs 1 gallon per inch, and not everyone can afford a large tank, have you seen tank prices?

Lets keep this short and simple:

1. Bettas need heaters. They are warm-water fish. Goldfish don't. They are cold-water fish. Making a goldfish the right temperature for a betta would kill or stress is. Making a betta the right temperature for a goldfish would kill or stress it.

2. Your tank is way overcrowded. 20 gallons for the first fish, and 10 for each additional one. +5 gallons for a betta.

As far as I know sharks can be more aggressive than Betta fish. I have some friends they have been trying with the sharks and they always attack the gold fish. With betta fish I never got a problem at all. So if I were you keep an eye on those sharks to see how do they react to the gold fish

Even thoe goldfish arnt tropical they can still live conftibly with a heater as with people growing out thare goldfish like me do. And bettas do just fine with slighly cooler temperatures as long as its not below room tempurature

So many fish in such a small tank. Bettas need 78-84 degrees f water... Goldfish dont. Bettas are also really fragile...

I dont think it was the food. As the ingreadents are vary simalar and all foods can realy be fed to anyfish. Just the food is just more finetooned to dietary needs.

You have to many goldfish in that small tank you need to get a bigger tank or reduce the amount of goldfish

You may not know this but betta fish and goldfish will not go together in the same tank. Not because of behavior issues when they are young, but because goldfish grow a foot log and need hundreds of gallons with cold water while betta fish are tropical and like a tank of 5-50 gallons depending on the tail type and how devoted you are ;0 goldfish can also live 40 years and a life with that tank is a death sentence. With your goldfish right know I would assume you would need about 200 gallons. Keep in mind when your fish die in the next year or so it's your fault for not meeting their requirements and neglecting them severely. Like keeping a dog in a 2 foot my 4 foot cage. Disappointed.

Though it's easy to think if the fish fits in the tank the tank is good but that isn't right. I can see you really care about your fish so it's just sad to see that no one wants to tell people how to take care of their pets properly ... :( I'm just clarifying I'm not trying to be mean to you since I once was a beginner too ( 1 gallon with a goldfish and I didn't know what water changes were ) I'm just trying to tell you the truth.

40 gallons with 5 commons is not okay. Yes they do grow a foot long and sometimes longer. I have a foot+ long common goldfish. The tank rule for commons is usually at least 50 gallons and + 40 for 1 more. Another reason why bettas and goldfish shouldn't go together is the fact that bettas need very very gentle filters while goldfish need powerful filters that could easily damage a betta if/ when the fish got sucked up.

All dependong on how are cept. I have my goldfish in a 40g I think? And I ended up with a femail betta. Now I have 5 commions about half a foot in lenth but I do my resertch. They have plenty of room to swim but with goldfish they have a huge bio load so i have a filter ment for a tank twice as big and i do almost daily water changes and testing. I like to feed my fish fresh healthy food and regarding diet the betta isnt that difrent from a goldfish. The femail actaly lives fine with the goldfisg big enuff to eat her. Its not easy but can be done.

They also have very different diets. While goldfish eat mostly greens bettas are almost strict carnivores.

they may be fine together because bettas are really hardy fish, but bettas are tropical fish and will thrive in warm temperatures, now the betta is just surviving
Second, if your betta is in a community (in this case goldfish which should not be done) the betta will not be friendly, all they will do is their own thing
im not sure what you're tank size is but if it's a 10 gallon it cant even take 1 goldfish, no matter how strong your filter is there will be ammonia poisoning and the goldfish will die, so will the betta
that being said, you still aren't providing a good life for the goldfish and will stunt it's growth
they are surviving, not thriving

All depends on the betta to. Amd the size of the goldfish goldfish are tipickly alot bigger and bettas tend to be smart enouf to not bite somthing that can eat it.

Clearly no bigger than a five gallon tank I have a five gallon tank with that same exact filter and comparing the size I can be almost 100% sure it's not any larger than that, but also he has four goldfish in that tank I don't care if it's a ten or 15 or whatever it's still over stocked! Four goldfish should be in AT LEAST a 30 gallon also betta fish and goldfish recquire different water temperatures, betas recquire a heater while goldfish don't, and the goldfish produce amounts of ammonia that are just unhealthy for the betta to be exposed to. So even if it is larger than five gallons I can GUARANTEE that it is not 30 gallons

I have no problem with the betta living with the goldfish because they seem pretty happy, but the tank is to small. The recommended size for a goldfish is 20 gallons per fish but the minimum is 10. I saw that you commented that you have only 2 goldfish now but that would be a 20 gallon.

Thats exactly what I said to my friends, as long as they are happy, and you can tell for sure they are and healthy nothing else matters like wierd theoric that they cannot be together and more. Now I just have 3 goldfish and my male betta who is huge now and the most amazing and beautifull long tale ever, I will updated this video as a proof and for the haters LFMAO. They've been with me for 14 months now pretty amazing and nobody died ;-)

I have my male beta with 4 minnows and 5 goldfish in my 40 gallon tank. They have plenty of room. Have had them in there for 3 weeks now and no problems. I have a hearing light on one side. And that's the side my beta stays on the most. And the other goldfish and minnow stay on the cooler side. Also getting some ghost shrimp and maybe a little frog or bigger snail to go in it. Just to fill it up a bit more. Because since all my fish are tiny. The tank looks empty almost. Or I wanna get some tetras or mollys. Or a bigger fish

Cool!!!! Here we can have some haters for putting them together but I have the proof in a few days I will updated this video and you'll see how beautifull all of them are and super healthy. Then only thing is that I will changed the Goldfish cuz the grow up and is true they need a bigger place now, but I will bring some tiny goldfish again to this aquarium, and my betta OMG! you'll see this big tale it has now is beautifull. I have betta fish food and the flakes for the Goldfish but for some reason the betta prefered the flakes. And for me is ok as long is healthy and growing up.

Alian Rodriguez Miguez Actually goldfish get very large and in petsmart and Walmart who are fish abusers (like you) only put them in the tank temporarily because they are still small. Do more research before putting different fish together.

Piyush Rumao this is my experience with a shark and betta... the damn shark ate my betta. Not joking, I was pissed! It was a 5 gal tank. I just bought the shark and had my betta for about a year. When I came home, betta bones were at the bottom of my tank. You might have different results though, be careful.
