Cute tank!! I think your betta might have gotten sucked in the filter because it was sick or the other fish bullied it. A normal healthy betta shouldn't have gotten stuck, a filters filtration isn't strong enough.

Hi have have few suggestions, maybe remove the air pump the current gets a bit strong and they can breathe air from the surface. also maybe add a tunnel for a hiding space also one more thing heater isnt optional its one of the main things needed But other than that GREAT SET UP!! keep up the great work :D

-you need a 2.5 gallon or bigger
-filter and heater are NOT OPTIONAL
-bettas need a lid

suggestion : make a DYI glass airstone driven filter a simple small one will work well and cannot pull Betts in! look up Lifewithpets for I instuctions!

Most keep betas incorrectly, you are one of them. First, they do need more space. Most keep them in small tanks but that doesn't mean they should be kept that way. They also only fight with other MALE betas, therefore they flourish with "tank mates". Female betas are good but not as colorful. And most other non-aggressive fish is wonderful (sword tails for example are aggressive fish). I had my beta in a 55 gallon community tank and he lived for many years and grew way more beautiful then when I had him in a 1 gallon box like you have. Third, betas breath air from the surface and commonly make "bubble nests", they need pretty calm surface water, loose the air stone. Just like any fish, they need filtration. Water changes are also needed but with no filter you are not turning the bad bacteria into good bacteria and will need to change a more percentage of water changes more often which isn't good. Also, betas love less decorations and more plants. They will actually rest on a leaf of a plant. Loose stone hedge there and add another plant with horizontal fatter leaves (it doesn't need to be big). I have kept fish for over 25 yrs and I am telling you that you are one of most that keep betas wrong!

One thing I find wrong: they don't just fight male a Bettas. They fight most other fish,, there are a very small amounts of types of fish Bettas can be with. Colorful fish are very bad because Bettas think they are another male

Tyler you are SO wrong... Bettas like lots of space, and don't say "They live in rice paddies and they are very small!" Rice paddies go on for MILES. They love space, they can live in small tanks but they don't thrive!
