If you learn to properly siphon, you don't need to use your mouth lol. The reason your plant is delicate is because its basically almost dead.

Where did you get such a unique and beautiful betta?! GORGEOUS!
BTW, I noticed you don't have your electric cords set up with a drip loop configuration. It is recommended for safety, and you could probably easily do it, just by adhering your power strip to the wall.

Heater should be unplugged too . Also trim the leaves that are turning brown the dying leaves . It'll help the tank not get super dirty . The whit bag those are bio balls that where the bb grows . I don't suggest shaking them all the way out just a small shake

You have such a beautiful fish but it's a shame that he's in such a tiny tank. It doesn't display his fins properly because he can't swim far or move much, just float around. A 10 gallon would show him off better imo

I read that ya do not need filter with a betta. Bubbles can stress em out?
Emma H
Emma H - 7 years ago
chris miller Too much turbulence or too many bubbles can stress out a betta, but a filter is highly recommended, some even say necessary for a betta. Without a filter water changes need to be done every day. There are ways to make the filter flow lower so bettas aren't blown around. (:
Jackie E
Jackie E - 7 years ago
i absolutely love your betta fish!! just some thoughts, you should just leave the filter plugged in, it saves a lot of manual work:) also, use your siphon hose to put the water back in, too, because it doesnt have such a drastic temp difference and it allows the betta to adjust, and plus its WAY easier! its also not as rough on the substrate

For your information, you should always turn off the heater, otherwise it can burn out when a particular level of water isn't reached.

my fish gets more stressed out when i take him out.
Brianna Harter
Brianna Harter - 7 years ago
actually that adds more stress.

since you would be chasing the fish around with a net.when it is in the net some of its slim coat could be damaged.also putting it in a unfamiliar container will also stress it out.

it best to handle fish as little as possible and leave them be where they already fill comfortable.

Lauren :D the tank simply isn't big enough to add any other fish. Besides you shouldn't get an algae eater solely for the purpose of getting rid of algae because most algae eaters aren't all that proficient compared to just good manual cleaning

i wouldnt change the water if you have a filter that will screw the cycle up and kill the fish
N. Calhoun
N. Calhoun - 7 years ago
That isn't true, water must be changed every two weeks......you only do a partial water change so it does not disturb the good bacteria growing in the tank.
SohiHien
SohiHien - 7 years ago
You need to change part of the water at least once a week. The cycle is not affected by water changes since the bacteria live in the filter not the water. You need to do regular water changes to remove nitrates from your tank (the end product of the nitrogen cycle) and to replenish minerals to the water for the fish to use. Failure to do water changes will result in dirty water that is high in nitrates which will kill your fish.
Link From hyrule
Link From hyrule - 8 years ago
Chandler Mcelhaney no it won't you need to change water every few weeks. The cycle is in the filter not the water column

Very pretty fish <3 Here's a tip, if the decorations are easy to get out you can rinse the decorations to get algae off. This is including rocks. Also take the betta out while doing heavy cleans like this (you can get a cup and put it in with the old water). :) You can also swish around substrate/gravel to get waste (from the fish) . Once again I love your fish, very healthy one!

Not to be rude or anything but bettas easily can get infections such as ich and a basic fungal infections so it best to do a complete water change and you should clean Betta tanks out about every 1.5 weeks and just a side note snails are very suicidal and won't crawl back into the water by them selves and it is very stressful for your fish to stay in the tank and bettas are very sensitive to stress and if u want your Betta to live long like u said in the video I would recommend taking him out just a few tips I don't mean to be rude I just have learned this from my 16 bettas I have now and the others who have passed and you have a beautiful betta
Love of Pets
Love of Pets - 8 years ago
+Ashley Fenimore Thanks for the tips. This tank has a filter and heater. Its the best cycled tank that I own. No need for a whole water change unless its one of those bowls without a filter. 1.5 weeks is way too much for a filtered tank.
With over 35 years owing fish I have made mistakes and learn from them also.
If I changed all his water he would of defiantly died. I hardly do water changes.
My fish live a very long time.
I could of taken him out but choose not too. He died well.
My snails can't get out unlesd they climb the ceiling of the lid. Has not happened yet.
Thanks again.
Bettas are wonderful to own.

Silly Bettas this is a cycled tank, though, so ammonia spikes shouldn't really be an issue. It's moreso just making sure your betta has clean water and that there isn't a build up of waste, you can live with a 10-25% water change once a week depending on the size of your tank.

+Loveofpets no problem also I need to say something once a mouth with a filter you do 100% and once a week do a 50% but with out a filter do 100% once a week ammonia builds up fast and it can burn a fish great job cleaning.

PLZ HELP. Hey, so yesterday I decided to purchase a tetra 50 watt heater for my 10 gallon tank. It's odd because it seems to be working fine, but it turns on and off. The light with shine red for about a minute, and then turn off. The tank used to be around 68 degrees F (I know, that's really bad! That's why I got a heater) and now it's 71 degrees. It said on the package that it would go up to 78 d. Am I doing something wrong? Or does it take more than one day to heat up? Someone plz help, thanks.

+Salem Ross Heaters will go on and off. When the light is on its heating the tank and turned off onces it hits the right tempature.
The thermometer may be faulty.

I think you should get 2 or 1 algea eaters, plecos, or catfish to eat all the algea.
Donna
Donna - 7 years ago
AXEL11160 GAMING-Bullies channel In this tiny tank that imo isn't even big enough for one betta.

You realise how big plecos grow? even smaller species such as the bristlenose? and catfish? this isn't big enough for a Cory cat either!!

Great video, Incredible Betta and tank... I am buying a 9 liter tank, and I will make it with some low tech plants. What do you think? Did you have any issue with the plants? Do you think easy or not to keem it (plants) healthy and alive in a small tank like we have? Ummmm Aaaaaa... I am from Brazil ... haha

is there a reason you put your magnet back on after you fill the tank back up and have that dirt flying everywhere? I'm not trying to be rude or anything, I'm just wondering if I'm missing something here..
Love of Pets
Love of Pets - 8 years ago
+he4rt5 I never thought of it. It never seems to affect the use of the magnets. Thanks for pointing it out.
he4rt5
he4rt5 - 8 years ago
Well if you reattach the magnets after you pour the water in the tank, wouldn't dirt get trapped between the magnet and the glass?
So I was just wondering if there was a reason you filled up the water first,  instead of putting the magnets on first? Or maybe that's just the order you remembered to do things in and it wasn't even intentional?
Love of Pets
Love of Pets - 8 years ago
+he4rt5 not sure what your asking.
I have all my magnets attached to my tanks.
Do you mean why don't I wait until the water is settled? If so I don't know why. Lol

Cool. I went and contacted one of the pet stores, and the owner said she's going out this week to a wholesale-not open to the public, and will hand pick a few. If she sees one like Jewels, she'll get him for me. Apparently there's hundreds of bettas there. Fingers crossed!

+Gerard Stephens Keep looking, one may come up. They probably go fast. Ask your fish store when they get their shipment and you can go that day. That is what I do, because the nice looking ones and the rare colors go first.

Just thought I'd share something I learned from owning the Fluval Edge (the square 6 gallon tank), and spending hours reading about plants on Planted tank.com. I actually learned that our trips to the store to buy carbon refills each month were a waste of money!! I couldn't believe it! A few knowledgeable aquarists shared that they just opt for adding an extra sachet of the Fluval Bio-Max (the bag in the bottom filter section) as a replacement to the carbon. It gives more area for beneficial bacteria to grow since the carbon is basically obsolete after a few days anyway.

And if you ever want to setup and cycle another new tank somewhere down the line you could use the extra sachet to do so, providing that you keep an eye on the orig. tank for nitrite/ammonia spiking and have to do extra water changes until the bacteria count makes up for the loss initially. Just wanted to share : ) Your betta is lovely! There's something about the platinum halfmoon's that truly are stunning ; )
