Thanks for all these divided 10g videos. I'm working on preparing a divided 10g for my daughters. Would you say that this setup will work fine with only one corner filter on one side? Is there enough flow through the divider holes to makes sure both sides are filtered properly? Same question on a heater. Is one ok?

Thank you! Yes they're the ones we sell and recommend. We sell the complete filter kits or the whole package including sponge filters, tubing, levers and pump.

Also, I have a years-long established 29 gallon tank. Can I just run the sponge filters in my established tank to establish the bacteria so I don't have to artificially cycle the new 10g betta tank? If so, how long would you suggest running them for before moving them to the betta tank?

We now sell these dividers. We've found filtration on one side does work well however I think it's better to have a small sponge filter on both sides. The heater as long as it is put in the middle of the tank on one side works just fine. http://www.lifewithpetsgci.com/store.html

Do the bettas stay at the divider freaking out> Ive got a fluval that had a divider, and my boys wouldn't even eat because they wanted to fight constantly. I didn't like their set up so I separated them into a couple of community tanks but I would like to have a show Betta tank with four separate areas? Any suggestions?

No, females with fight and possibly kill each other if they are not in larger groups. The fewer you have the higher the aggression level.

yes your welcome i have a question I have a 5.5 gallon tank I wanted to put two baby female bettas and I want to know if I could also put a couple glow fish in them or like 1 or something

Female bettas need to be in groups of 5 or more and need a minimum of 20 gallons. The tank also needs to be very heavily planted. A 5.5 gallon would be good for a betta and some snails but it's a little too small to add more fish with a betta. Glow fish can also get a little nippy so they're not really suitable for betta fish.

i LOVE that tank! my sweet boy lives in a 5.5 gallon tank and the heater and in his tank works suprisingly well! i was wondering if using a fish safe blue light would hurt a betta? its meant for glow fish and its small but i was wondering if it would maybe hurt my betta eyes?

Thank you, no it shouldn't be a problem. Most lights now come with a moonlight to mimick the moon. Check out the later video if you'd like. This tank has changed a lot.

We're using one pump for both of them. We use a 4 way outlet so we can run several sponge filters or air stones from the one pump.

I watched your DIY tank divider and I loved it! I have three betta fish, and I will be traveling for a month so I am going to have my mom watch my boys. My rose petal (or rose tail) lives in a 10 gallon, so I would love to divide it and add my veil tail to the tank; this will help my mom so she only has to clean two tanks rather than 3 :)

Hello...Will two filters (like yours) on each end of a 20 gallon long tank be sufficient? The tank will be divided into 4 sections. Thank you so much for the video and links. I will be using your design for the dividers. They are the nicest I've seen. Beautiful tank and bettas!

Thank you for watching. You're going to be giving your Bettas a wonderful home. Yes two corner filters one at each end should be sufficient. I would also add two mini sponge filters in the middle sections. They all run on air pumps so it would be easy to set up. The corner filters are good because they have the bio balls, carbon, sponge and a polish pad in them and you can adjust the water flow. The mini sponge filters will add some water movement to the middle sections. For the bio load of 4 Bettas these filters are perfect. If it was for a full 20 gallon tropical set up they're only good for secondary filtration. That's great! I have one who still occasionally fin bites. He's the only Betta out of many who's does it. I did find putting that big plant in made a difference but every now and again he will still do it. Thankfully it heals very quickly.

You're so right! When it comes down to it, it's all about money. Yes, it is a long time for a video...lol! Most of them only take 4-6 hours. I don't know how people do daily vlogs, I could never do that. The editing takes forever!!

+Lifewithpets I cant wait to see it! I am sure it will be awesome :) That is a long time to spend on a video! But I hope it helps a lot of people who may be thinking of buying on of those tanks! I always have thought it is quite interesting how people will always choose the expensive, small, but "cute" option for animal cages. It goes for a lot of animals! I have a rabbit, and the cages they sell at pet stores are NOT suitable for them. Same with hamsters... You could spend $60 on one of those small cages with all the tubes, or go buy a very large bin, and decorate it how you want for so much cheaper! There is always a better option it seems! :)

That's what I hope my video is going to show. You can do a cute finding Dory theme cheaper without buying the Dory tanks! The video will have taken 8-10 hours to make but if it helps save some Bettas it will be worth it!

+Lifewithpets Yay! I feel like decorating a 2.5 gallon aquarium is hard to find on YouTube... So I cant wait to see it! And I know right... :( Its pretty sad. I have seen those kind of themed "tanks" for Finding Dory... But at the same time I understand it, too. When little kids see such cute tank and then they see such cute bettas... Its so tempting! Sadly, betta care is so wrong in pet stores. (like the little papers Petco and PetSmart have... Yikes!)

I used mini pots in a 2.5 gallon and it looked really good. I am working on a video for next week. It's on a 2.5 gallon tank and decorating it! I was horrified by the VERY small tanks being sold for the upcoming movie Finding Dory and I got an idea to do a video on that theme. So watch this space....lol!

+Jack smith I do, if your tank was big enough. If the store will let you try then go for it. Your neons might be an issue, but without trying it there's no way to know for sure. As you know there's never any guarantees with Bettas and especially when you're wanting to put several together. I'm hoping to add 2 more to my group, but I know it's a risk and have room for them if it doesn't work out.

+Jack smith I don't know if I'd risk it. My tank is 20 gallon and 30 inches long. Also Bettas don't always do too well with neons. You do have the advantage if the fish store already keeps them in a tank together, you'd need a well planted tank, just caves etc is not enough. Your filtration is more than adequate. Would your fish store let you try it and if it didn't work out return the fish?

+Lifewithpets Just had a look, you have very pretty female bettas. Thinking about it i probably have room for 5 female bettas in my tank. 5 bettas 2 platies and 6 neon tetras? I have an eheim classic 250 canister filter running which is for tanks 30-65 gallons so i could probably overstock a bit? There are lots if hiding spots in my tank too. My lfs keeps their females together in one tank so I could pick out the less agressive ones if that makes any difference. Does that sound alright?

I really wouldn't recommend that. I have platies and the Bettas don't bother with them at all. I tried 5 in a 10 gallon and it failed but once I put the 5 in my 20 gallon with the community fish, all was great!

+Lifewithpets Yeah 1 or 3, I know 5 is recommended but i think it would be fine. I don't think there would be room with my 6 neons and 2 platies. and as most sororities have no other comunity fish i reccon the platies would act as 'fillers' for the other bettas.
