FAQ on Snails Part 1

Today I will answer the most FAO on Mystery snails and Nerite snails. I have Horned Nerite snails, Zebra nerites and Tiger Nerites. I also have a Golden mystery snails. They do a great job taking care of the algae in the tank. Snails are not suitable in tanks under 2.5 gallons because they produce so much waste. Filtered tanks over 2.5 gallons are suitable for Nerite snails and tanks over 5 gallons are suitable for Mystery snails. Remember snails may do a good job at cleaning algae but they also produce a lot of waste. They enjoy eating algae, spinach and zucchini. * In the video I said my snail was an Ivory Mystery snail. In fact it's a Golden Mystery snail. My previous snail was an Ivory. Lets connect Instagram https://www.instagram.com/lifewithpets72
The snails were rescued from a pet store, so they are still recovering. The gold has thinned parts of her shell and the mystery has pits, but I'm introducing them to their first taste of calcium soon. Aside from that, they seem very active and take well to food.
The tank is almost ALWAYS very clean and I do water changes (4-6 gal out of ten) every month, or more, if it gets dirty quicker than usual.
Is this good enough, or should the water be changed more often, since I heard snails are messy? Any recommendations? Like, I get confused about how much water to remove, but now that I have more biomass in my tank I'm more confused.
I'm experienced with bettas, but this is my first time having snails. I did as much research as I could to purchase them and give them an adequate "introduction" month to the tank, but now I want to see if I'm okay on all the details.
Thanks.

I really want a mystery snail with my betta. This tank will be hopefully 10 gallons. I’m not really sure what I should feed them on a DAILY basis. Do i Feed them peas everyday or cut up green beans. Or do I go to Petsmart and see if they have “ snail food” My tank won’t have life plants just plastic but soft so it won’t cut the fins of the betta. So I don’t know if it will eat algae. I haven’t bought anything yet and I’ve been watching your videos for weeks now. I want to make sure I have everything so I can care for everything correctly. I was told to buy a Algae scrapper. Also this may seem like a stupid question but so snails live under water forever? Do they need to be outside of water? Will they also eat left over pellets if they aren’t all eaten? Please help Shelia I trust ALL your advice
Thank you!

Thanks for doing this video... I just got my first snails and for once in my life realized it is safe to have them because I don't have any yoyo or clown loach snail eaters.
it is a planted aquarium

I have a ivory mystery snail, and it'll be acting weird I do not how to describe it, I thought I can maybe send you an email ? If that's ok
do you need to have multiple snails or can you just have one (I don't want them to reproduce but I don't mind having 3 or so all one gender)
Also...
do you think they will escape if I have around a 1-3 centimeter gap for my filter and such?

Okay, great, thank you!
I had everyone telling me I could not keep a 1 gallon tank, I proved them wrong and kept it to its fullest! Might break it down, move the shrimp and begin converting it into a flame moss nursery. Happy fish keeping!
Plus they give birth to live babies, so you don't have to worry about eggs all over the glass. And no, they don't eat plants - unlike other snails.
Ps its my birthday today :)
Im also taking my 27 platy fry tomorrow to my lfs now because im going away soon. Ill be sad to see them go. Hoping people will purchase them as pets not as feeders :/
And thanks for wishing me happy birthday :)
