Shiela, Apologies but off feeding topic. I have dedicated a 10 gal. split tank. my water in the tank is neutral. In my tank it is more acidic. I have a sand substrate. Dragon stone and anubias attached to driftwood. It is cycling right now. My girls are babies and in quarantine growing out while we wait. I am using 2 spoung filters, one is too large for the tank. Looking into the Aqueon internal filter.
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 6 years ago
I would use sponge filters not the internal filter. As it's a divided tank the flow would be too strong on one side of the tank.

If you are breaking up your feeding times for your bettas then how many pellets would you give per betta at one time?
Amal Bounouh

When using micro pellets do you use more in quantity? They are very small compared to the one you use. And they won't feed anything bigger

Other than wide variety of food, I think it’s because of temperature. If the water is cold their metabolism get slower and they become bloated

I tend to feed my betta fish freeze dried bloidworms and pellets as well as occasional frozen foods. With bloating i suggest pre soaking the food it helps alot.

I feed the bio gold pellets and frozen brine shrimp. Every time he has the frozen he bloats - is it the type? Too much?

When you say bloated is he floating, can’t swim etc? Brine shrimp has a laxative effect on fish so it shouldn’t do that.

Please i need some advice. I will be gone for a week and i asked my friend to feed my Betta Bub Ludwig. He cant feed him everyday cause he is busy so i asked him to feed him every second day. I have 1mm Pellets, how many would you say should he give per feeding when he feeds Bub Ludwig every second day?
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 6 years ago
A healthy betta can go several weeks without food. I would do a large water change the day before you leave. Then just have your friend feed every other day whatever you would normally feed each day. Maybe even a little less.

Hi Sheila, I'm looking for some advice on feeding my betta fish. I am currently staying with my partners family, who I don't think will be okay with me keeping frozen food in the freezer - therefore, I have bought freeze dried bloodworm and daphnia in the interest of giving my betta a varied diet. How often should I feed this, and will it do him any damage to not have frozen or live food? We're moving to our own apartment on the 1st of September so then he will be given frozen food also. Any advice will be greatly appreciated, thank you! Love your videos.

I have 4 feeder goldfish who are all still small of course. 2 weeks since I've purchased them. they're mine since I had an extra tank laying around so I figured why not. anyways, I started out with flakes since they were too small to eat pellets but now since they grew a tiny bit they can finally eat pellets. my question is should I wait for them to grow a bit more before feeding them bloodworms and other foods? or can they eat these foods without trouble even though they are still small?

hey it's an awesome video..I recently bought a male Betta fish..the petshop person recommended me to buy freeze dried blood worms and told me to feed them to Betta twice per day on a regular basis..He said this will help them to develop color and be healthy..so my question is can the freeze dried worms be fed to the Betta daily?I soak them in small amount of aquarium water for 3-5min before feeding it to Betta..I tried giving it pellets ,but it just swallows it and throws it out into pieces which then settle to the bottom..
Also I give Betta peas and also fast him once in a week..

I got my betta about 3 months ago and he was eating Hikari pellet food for a while, I added some freeze dried food and then Nutrafin Bug Bites. However, since about a month ago, he started to develop SBD that could last for 2 days until he passed the blockage. After watching this video, I started feeding him frozen blood worms and daphnias and he was doing very well until I tried to feed a few pellets on one of the days (soaked in tank water too). His digestion shut down for a week. I wonder if maybe he could only eat frozen food, if that's the case, is it a good idea to have frozen daphnia, bloodworms, mysis, brine rotating during the week and no pellet/dry food at all, will this diet also help to enhance his colours? It just seems that betta formulated pellets would have some vitamins not offered in frozen food. Thanks for this video, Sheila, it really helps me to have a much better idea about my betta's diet. I'm probably still a bit to squeamish to feed him live food :)

I have been feeding my betta fish the Aqueon color enhancing betta food. My bettas seem to enjoy them a lot, however the pellets are quite small and miniature. I have been feeding them 3 in the morning and 2 at night each. Since the pellets are so tiny, do you recommend I try giving a few more? Or continue with what I'm doing? Thanks!

Hi- just a question- I have a betta in a 5 gallon filtered tank. The water is very clean and he always eats fine for me- the problem is that he spends all his time sleeping in the bottom corner. I feed my bettas a lot of different things. I feed the frozen blood worms and brine shrimp, Mosquito larva pellets from bettas and art, flightless fruit flys, and a pellet food by aqueon.

I fed my last bettas hikari betta pellets. They seemed to like them. I also gave them freeze-dried bloodworms as a treat, but only once a week or so, as I think (might be wrong) that too many bloodworms leads to betta constipation.
Anthony Ragan
Anthony Ragan - 7 years ago
That's kind of what I think, too, these days.
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
I don't think it's the bloodworms as such but more likely it all being dried food.

Thanks for informing how much we should normally feed. I find it true that females eat more than males because I have 3 males and 3 females and most of the time i notice the females always ready for food. This kinda also led me into feeding the males equally which I guess I've been overfeeding them for a while now. I'll reduce their food intake and check the results in a week.

Not really, the first ingredients is fish meal which doesn't have a lot of nutritional value.

I bought some frozen brine shrimp. I'm a bit confused on how to feed it to my Betta. It's the same brand and packaging as your frozen blood worms. If you could tell me what you do it would be very helpful. I'm sorry it's such a beginner question.

my bettas love the new life spectrum pellets and frozen blood worms. I feed them two pellets in morning and two at night and one or two blood worms twice a week. they still act like they are hungry. how many pellets a day would you suggest and blood worms? I feel they still look hungry

It really depends on the size of the betta but I typically do 2-3 pellets in the morning and 2-3 at night . Bloodworms I don't really count but possible 3-5.

I feed all of my bettas a variation of omega one buffet pellets, frozen and freeze dried bloodworms, and mysis shrimp. The mysis shrimp is definitely their favorite. I'm going to be trying out frozen brine shrimp and daphnia soon, hopefully!

do you think there is a chance that you might get into betta breeding?? i breed betta's, (mine are marble dragon halfmoons, red DTHM and red dragon halfmoons). i only say this because you have a beautiful yellow koi HMPK male and i think i remember seeing a yellow koi HMPK in your sorority and it would be amazing to see you breed them! yellow koi breeding can produce some beautiful colours!

ahhh okay, sorry yes i must of been confused, also so sorry to hear about your female :'(. also wow i was so wrong, i thought the yellow koi was a male but now i see its a female! wow shes a stunner! this is why i stick to halfmoons hahaa much easier to sex
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
Yes, I'm finding that with the goldfish, they grow so quickly. I only have one yellow HMPK female the one in the thumbnail. My koi HMPK male is a red, black and a tiny bit of blue. I think the one you're thinking of in the sorority is the orange koi, sadly she passed away a few days ago.
nathan taylor
nathan taylor - 7 years ago
yea sometimes it can be a little time consuming and take a little effort but i can not describe the feeling of seeing your own adult fish and you start thinking to yourself "i saw that fish when it was just a tiny baby" ! and yes sorry i meant i thought there was a yellow koi HMPK female in your sorority and a male in his own separate tank! they would be a great pair!
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
The yellow koi is actually a female. She was labeled a male at the store but turned out to be female. I may breed in the future as I have my gorgeous male koi but I'm not sure yet. We're raising goldfish fry at the moment and it's a lot of work!

Do you have lighting and have you added a root tab for the Amazon sword? Is it possible he's fin biting? Mine goes through spell of doing it, no idea why!
Daisy Gonzalez
Daisy Gonzalez - 7 years ago
Lifewithpets I have a 2.5 gallon for my male betta, but he seems to have a tear on the bottom long fin towards the bottom and mostly swims around the heater. I have an Amazon sword I'm there, but the plant seems to be fading. What am I doing wrong?
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
Females are usually 4-6 months when they go to the store and males are 8-10 months. Some of my males are old, Rupert my veiltail is only a little over a year old. Males usually grow up to about 12-14 months old. Feeding and space has a lot to do with their grow too.
Daisy Gonzalez
Daisy Gonzalez - 7 years ago
Lifewithpets how do you know when they are fully grown? I have a dark blue half moon male betta, but he doesn't look as big as the ones you have.

Usually as babies. The koi in the picture was really tiny when we got her 3 months ago. She's growing nicely.

I really wish to get that betta new life spectrum but there are no such brands here. Online doesn't ship here in our country. Too bad. Message my relatives that lives in Ontario Canada and i hope they could bought one for me and sent here in the Philippines. :)
I feed my bettas "betta food" made in taiwan- that is the only best food very close to new life spectrum that i can find here locally. So far so good. I also feed them frozen blood worms once a week. :)
