+Angela Miller i am really not sure it's plastic plant. I have had a few people ask the same thing. He shredded that plant many times, it would be really hard to keep anything live with these guys.

I don't think they were happy with having strangers come into their house with bright lights and big camera equipment. These fish are highly intelligent and are nervous about new comers. Some took a while to actually come out for the camera. They aren't used to being put on display lol

how big do jags get on average I've read 12 inch 18 inch and someone on here said 24 inch I've kept oscars and been in the hobby 25 years I've never seen a 2ft jaguar

+Dan Wills if the wild they will get up to 22 inches, if kept in a large enough tank 300 plus gallons with proper care you can grow them to that size. Check out our gaupote mel on youtube, he has had some that size over the years. Our recent video links you over to his channel

+Vel Annamalai Yes they sure are my friend. I would suggest NorthFin for your cichlids. They have a great veggie formula ranging 1 to 3 mm. I would suggest the kelp wafers though if your fish are already large. Kelp Waffers are made from 10mm up to 14 mm.

The Jag looks gorgeous, imo he's the most aggressive one especially when the pair fry as i experienced my hand bled by those teeth:) n' they're easy to breed but often the male like to kill the female if they're not in harmony again lol but it's only from my experience. Great vid

Thanks for commenting Rod. Africans are beautiful, but I know I'm really drawn to the personality of the SA/CA cichlids, I really don't mind the idea of having just one fish in a tank if that's the way they like it. Dave definitely has solid advice though, he hasn't guided us wrong yet.

There are tons of possibilities. If you were leaning towards more aggressive American CIchlids, then maybe a few convicts, firemouths, or salvini. They are all super interesting and on the smaller side. I would definitely research whatever it is your most interested in.

this is interesting what this guy is saying because I'm a big believer in once a fish is a certain decent size not over feeding, I feed my Frontosas once every other day and certianly not every day. I started doing this because once I went without feeding for a few days I noticed the fish were still pooing , he's also right that an Oscar could go months without feeding, They do in the wild. especially in the amazon

Glad you enjoyed them. With the water changes a dechlorinator is used. Dave uses Safe, it's a really concentrated one and he is on city water. Prime or other conditioners can also be used.

Mike, this is a great video, especially for someone like me, who just dove into large cichlids (Even though I've successfully kept discus) lol. I love the advice and seeing all those BEAUTIFUL FISH! I've never seen a Trimac in the Caribbean either, I really really want one though. Hopefully I'll be the first to own one in Trinidad LOL. Great video and keep it up.

dang your fish eat better than i do some nights lol If i could make a suggestion though Maurice, If you could substitute your beef to fresh fish your oscars will be able to process the food a bit better. In the wild they very seldom eat mammal meat and may have a harder time to digest it. Otherwise it sounds like it would work great. We will be looking forward to a video to check him out bud

I got ya, I did my research on them, and I know about the nutritional values of feeders. You'll be glad to hear that I don't feed them feeders anymore because I don't want them to get any parasites. I feed them Hikari cichlid pellets made esp for oscars and I also feed them my DIY beefheart mis that I fed my discus. It has spinach, garlic, greenpeas and beef in there too lol. So this way I ensure they get their roughage to keep their digestive tracks healthy as well as the garlic keeps parasites away. Thanks for the heads up though, but once I got oscars my son wanted to see them eat. He's totally amazed by it.

Very nice i'm sure you will be one day Maurice. Oscars are one of them fish that draws you in after a while i noticed. I felt the same way at first. Once you start to understand them a little you notice that personality its all over. I would like to advise against feeding them feeders though bud. Its really not healthy for the fish. A great substitute would be fresh tilapia crickets blood worms even shrimp as a treat but their diets should have a lot of vegetable in it as well. I'm sure Dave might chime in if I forgot something.

+AQUA NUT LOL I want to be the envy of the fish keepers here lol. I'll find a way, but right now I'm enjoying the personalities of my Oscars, oh man was I ever wrong about these fish. I always thought them to be aggressive ugly fish. Now though, I love them so much, they're highly interactive and have such unique personalities on each one of them. For large fish, they more really elegantly and not just bruisers that bump into everything. My Oscars are strangely peaceful, they live with other fish well and don't try to eat them. Feeders are a different story though, they devour those as they hit the water, so I'm not sure how they differentiate between tank mate and feeder fish. I'll do a video for YouTube so the world can see my new love. lol.

+Maurice Aquariums Anyone who enjoys large aggressive cichlids will enjoy this video. For me it seeing these fish and learning about them was an eye opener. I am more excited then ever to watch mine grow into that. I do enjoy discuss but i think the personality of these sa and ca fish are mindblowing. Ive kept goldfish for 10 plus years and really enjoyed them but i think the switch already feels more rewarding. The Trimac is an amazing fish Maurice, i have not seen one in person but one of the admin in the CCK has a beautiful one named Rosie and it is a stellar fish. Extreamly beautiful. If you can find one over there or import one for a decent price i would jump on it. You are going to be the envy of all Trinidad fishkeepers. Thanks for watching bud

sorry for the late response. There are tons of amazing Central and South Americans. Generally your centrals tend to be more on the super aggressive side, where South Americans tend to get along better and are generally more docile. There are always weird exceptions, but I would start with the type of personality you are hoping to keep and go from there.

+Deon 0026 Yeah man that was a big fish. The camera deceives you about the size though. That big oscar in the 220 looks so small on camera lol that guy is massive he is bigger than my head. But yeah you might have to buy another tank lol you are going to be in trouble with the ole lady. Lol
