I beg to differ: It depends on Your fish. They are all different. I'm documenting my ghost shrimp's experience to prove this point and because I'm a new fish owner. They are just fine. The one under the pipes jumped out of a small opening in the back and is not doing well, albeit he's still alive. Anywho, been doing regular water changes so my betta is getting better too. Zero ammonia, nitrite & less than 10ppm Nitrate. GH/KH are great too. Ph, I keep steady (which is a tad tricky when adding alkaline buffer/KH/carbonate) but it's easy once you get used to it. I actually learned key cycling information from fishlore.com, plantedtank.com and from a local, San Francisco resident-only forum. Great stuff.
