Poor fish, the filter takes up half the tank. It's round so it will affect its vision and she didn't acclamate

I know this video was made awhile ago and not trying to be mean because I know we all start somewhere just some constructive criticism, but some bits and pieces of this video were incorrect. 1. You never want to use a rounded/circular tank because it makes it hard for the fish to swim and ruins their eye sight. 2. With the thing she said about the sand, whether you put the sand in before or after the water it's going to be cloudy no matter what. You have to let your filter run until the water is clear. 3. Also from what I saw you didn't acclimate your betta for at least an hour so he could get used to the temperature.

I live in tropical climate (7°S and 400 M above sea level ) the air temp here is range from 16°C ( 60°F) - 30°C ( 86°F ) but i think the water is way colder than the air temp should i put on a heater on my betta tank ?? (Srry for bad english )

I think you should get a heater just in case anyway. I live in Australia it’s summer here and even when I had no heater it was too cold. Lucky I had no fish in the tank yet :D

Just suggesting you remove that sharp plastic lotus, maybe pick up some silk plants which are much easier on their fins or even some real plants like water lettuce or anubius(sp?). Also be careful with that salt, dont wanna burn the little guy.

ok please dont just get a betta because you watched this video, this video is full of false facts and some of them can be lethal to your betta so please just do the reaserch. i am not hating on the youruber she seems sweet and shes trying her best
Creatures 'n Creations
Creatures 'n Creations - 6 years ago
1. There is no sufficient evidence to prove that round tanks are bad for them. Most of these 'facts' are from people who anthropomorphize their fish. 2. Yes, you should always cycle your tank, although if you have the resources and tests kits it is okay to place a fish into water that they have been properly acclimated too and that has the correct water parameters (thus the reason why I put warnings at the end of the video). 3. I waited for the salt to completely dissolve before I put him in (although I should have been more clear about that in the video)~ Thank you for the feed back! And don't worry I know you're not trying to hate, I get it :) ~sorry for the long message!~
Jolo Grande
Jolo Grande - 6 years ago
Creatures 'n Creations 1. you used a round tank which will effect the fishs vision, and you didn't let the tank cycle which takes about 3 weeks and you didn't let the salt dissolve which can burn the fish. but overall you seem very sweet and i am not hating on you at all <3 (but the facts you put on the screen were all fine)

I wouldn't recommend anything smaller than one gallon. My mother has had a betta in a one gallon fish tank with no decorations to crowd its' swimming space, and the fish lived for 4 years with no heater, just water changes with our well water (at room temp.), and he was perfectly happy and healthy.

Now, I can completely understand using necessary dechlorinator, ammonia reducer, ect., depending on your water source and if it's necessary for your fish, But my Mom's betta was clear proof that not all betta need all these chemicals.. And let's not forget: you put too much of these chemicals in your water and that alone with KILL your fish.

the filter cartidge is the reason it won't cycle. When you remove the cartridge from the filter, you take away all that good bacteria with it. I'm wondering if you find just a sponge from a sponge filter, I wonder if the tank would actually cycle. I'm in the process of cycling a sponge in 3 gallons of water in a bucket and it appears to be working.

Beta fish do not need a filter and can be changed once a week without one, they don't like a strong current because their not strong swimmers so if you have a filter at all it shouldn't be powerful

Don't use nets it bad for your fishes fins
Chelsea Jewel
Chelsea Jewel - 6 years ago
Dale Ella Erica Zapanta no it doesn't. It can rip their scales off from them flopping about. The way to minimize this would be to just soak the net for like ten minutes before use to soften the fabric. Dry nets can cause harm for real. If you want to reduce stress just use a cup or your hand to handle moving the fish.
Dale Ella Erica Zapanta

there are actually some occasions where tap water isn't unhealthy for fish, normally you can take a sample of your water to PetSmart to see they should tell you whether you need conditioner or not
Creatures 'n Creations
Creatures 'n Creations - 7 years ago
Unironic tap water in general usually always has chlorine so it's just best to use conditioner anyway :)

For the sault it's 1 Tbsp per 5 gallon... When u said that it was too much, it looked just about right amount for a 2.5 (1/2 tbsp)

Creatures 'n Creations

Amaree Cortez no more than 1/2 teaspoon per gallon for disease prevention (also make sure you dissolve the salt before adding it to the tank)

The water you add in the beginning contains some kind of conditioner or its tap water?

Yes! I really liked this tank when I first bought it but as time went on I didn't like the fact it was curved because at some angles you cant see the fish

I am thinking of buying this exact aquarium (it's so popular after all) and I will put only one betta. Is the fitler capable of cleaning the tank and making the water clear if I do partial water changes every week?

I hv a 1 gallon betta tank.... I don't hv filter so in how many days should I change water
Sorrybutitsart
Sorrybutitsart - 7 years ago
mahua bhattacharyya you shouldn't have a beta in less than 2.5 gallons. With no filter you should do daily water changes of 75%. This will shock your fish. In a 5 gallon weekly water changes are fine. I'd also get a water testing kit just to keep track of everything with your fish in a tank so small. They have like $30 starting ones. Strips don't work.
Creatures 'n Creations
Creatures 'n Creations - 7 years ago
You should do one every other day, I would really recommend getting a filter :/

How long is a cycle? I have a 1.5 gallon tank with two gold fish, and a .5 gallon tank with my male betta fish. I am looking for 10 gallon tanks right now, and am currently deciding if Id like to introduce my betta to any other fish since he killed my female.  Any tips?

Mr. Purple Neons don't need a 20 long. My friend has a 10 long and has Neons, they're fine
Mr. Purple
Mr. Purple - 7 years ago
Lexi Lou a 0.5 gallon tank is way too small for any fish period. It's also way too unstable for any fish. Bettas should not be together other than a sorority but that should only be attempted by experienced individuals. Also a 1.5 gallon tank is too small for any fish as well, I'm assuming you mean a common or comet goldfish and they need 75+ gallons best suited for a pond. The rule for single tails is generally 40 gallons per each fish. They can with good care grow more than a foot long. You should just do a fish in cycle with your fish (do not keep the goldfish and betta together) in the 10 gallon you get and return or rehome the goldfish asap. In a ten gallon you have very few options for betta tankmates, neon tetras are not suitable at all because they need at least a 20 long and a school of at least 5!

Thanks. :)
Creatures 'n Creations
Creatures 'n Creations - 7 years ago
Lexi Lou It takes around 3-6 weeks for a tank to fully cycle (sometimes longer or shorter depending on filtration & tank size) I would wait for the ten gallon tank to introduce other fish if you plan on moving your male Betta into that tank. A .5 gallon tank is too small to place any other fish besides the Betta (it's even too small for one male Betta and that might be why he killed the female because male betta's are territorial and it's just plainly not enough space). When you have your cycled ten gallon tank, get a school of Neon tetras first then after a few days place your Betta in and see how your Betta handles it, most of the time the Betta will leave the little fish alone but other times they are too territorial and may kill the little fish. It's somewhat trial and error. I hope this helps!

Small tanks still go through cycles as long as they have suitable surface area or bio-media in your filter or any place of good flow, all tanks will cycle unless you are constantly washing off all the beneficial bacteria in your aquarium. You just need to be sure to do lots of frequent water changes in a tank that small to prevent build up of ammonia and nitrites and nitrates that your nitrates may not be able to handle. (I suggest getting a diff filter that can handle bio filtration better) Also I've never used aquarium salt as a routine thing because I don't really see the direct benefits but I've learned that you should completely dissolve the crystals in water because the solid crystals can burn your fish.
Chantal Kowalczyk

Anyway you shouldn't buy round tank. So your explains are useless. (you can buy filter apart). By the ways you didn't want problems but you put fish in round shape aquarium. Congratulation -.-
Creatures 'n Creations
Creatures 'n Creations - 7 years ago
Also I place the salt in the filter (I only put a tiny amount of small crystals) this helps prevent fungus & parasites
