I'm sorry but I think getting a fish for a child is a good opportunity to teach them compassion and how to treat a pet Even if the fish survives it can't be happy I personally would not want to spend my entire life in a closet, a tank like this is a similar situation for the fish. I wish pet stores would be more honest with people instead of just trying to make a buck you can get a much better environment set up for the same price as what you paid for that. You can get either a five or possibly even a 10 gallon tank for like $10 Some will come with a filter and if not if you can spend another $10 on the filter. $10 on a heater and you'll have a much happier fish and a much more visually appealing tank.

When you get a fish you have to aclimate it if you don’t your fish might be sick or an illness or die in a couple of days you cant pour the fish he will get mad and die

This is all wrong first you need a 4 or 3 gallon tank because bettes do jump then you need a filter so that the filter can suck food then you need a heater to keep them warm then you need a thermomerter to check the water and you need more design more so that your fish will be happy

I'm all for teaching your kids and letting them have pets. Sadly, this was basically all wrong :( I assume the fish is already dead. Need a filter, need a heater, need to cycle the aquarium before adding fish. Need to know about the biological cycle of water and how to test for ammonia, nitrite, & nitrate. I have a video on betta tank setup. Also, this is a video everyone should watch before getting any fish or aquatic pets: "You NEED to KNOW this before getting a FISH TANK! Aquarium cycle information!". Just give it a YouTube search. With proper knowledge and care, your family and children can provide great care to your fish. Just need to put in a little effort and research before buying anything, especially living animals (always research yourself; never listen to pet store staff, even if they seem to know what they are talking about).

Earthling1984 like I said it is a good temporary tank I agree with the fact that a bigger tank is needed but with water changes it will hold on for let's say for 2 weeks or more. If you read the conversation I had in the comments with EV Cat you can find out more on why I think it's ok for now.

Earthling1984 I understand what you mean but keep in mind they did follow most of the steps! Even though a bigger tank is needed the current one is a good temporary tank! Besides just let the kid enjoy the fish! :D

Thanks for the information. Fortunately, Hobby Betta Fish is doing just fine! We did some research before this--and not all of it was in this little video. We appreciate the tips, though!

Make sure to cover up the top as bettas are jumpers! Also consider getting a bigger tank in the future at least 3 gallons :) I was kind of relieved when the trident broke cause sharp objects ( specially plastic leaves and pointy decor) can rip their fins! Also remember to get a heater and filter with a low setting as bettas are not very good swimmers :P otherwise pretty cool fish! On another note the tank can wait but the heater and filter are a must don't put cold water as they are tropical fish.

Thanks for the tips! Fortunately, we live in a very warm climate, so a heater is not a problem. We're also doing water changes every three days, so he's getting plenty of fresh water! No jumping yet--but we're watching out for it!

:) - I think that Hobby Betta got into an epic fight with monster statue and through this fight, Hobby Betta broke the trident cleanly in half. Now monster statue is remorse to go about life telling everyone that it was almost meant to be a cane.
