I assume you misspoke. You said bettas shouldn't be in anything larger than a .75 gallon tank.
And there is no "opinion" for these things. There is what is good, and what is bad. The whole leash vs harness is very different than this. Saying it is a matter of opinion for crucial things like living space is dumb. The opinion you think of can easily be wrong. There are opinions, but there are also facts. It can be my opinion that a betta fish needs at least a gallon of water, and preferably 2.5, but, if you want the happiest fish possible, it is also a fact. That is like saying it is my opinion that dogs can live happily in a small kennel, and it being right. If I don't know what a happy dog looks like, I can claim he is perfectly happy. I have kept bettas in bowls, as well as large tanks. Happy bettas flare often, and are very active.
It is possible for them to be in such a small space, but a tank this size needs complete water changes every 2 days. It isn't a matter of boredom. It is a matter of clean water. Of course, space does wonders for the betta as well. Imagine living in a room the size of a bathroom with no toilet, and never being able to clean it for a week. You'd get sick and bored. Now, imagine it was very cold. Betta are tropical fish. For comfort, they need a heater.
So, you have a bored, filthy, cold fish. Sure, it can survive, even recover from disease, but is he truly happy?
I understand if you were never taught better. But if you know you aren't giving your pets the best life possible, why keep them?
A betta can okay in such a small tank with frequent cleaning, but they will have a great life in a proper setup.
