its always a good idea to add a little bit of aquarium salt to a tank just to help keep the fish healthy and aquarium salt also helps keep away a little bit (not a whole lot ) of bacteria away. but only add aquarium salt if your taking out water and adding in new water.

Great! Although I don't recommend the Aquino food because of it having fish meal and other junk. I recommend omega 1 betta buffet pellets.. it's a bit pricey but it's worth the cost containing 40% protein which is absolutley needed for bettas, and a ton of natural fish like herring etc. great quality video and beautiful betta! ❤ good choice on the fluval tank :3

You can't spell Betta nor can you care for one, a betta is supposed to live 3-5 years and I will bet on it that yours did not.
Jenn
Jenn - 7 years ago
just because they lived for "a while" doesn't mean that they thrived or they where happy. its like sticking a person in a small closet and feeding them. will they live? yes but will they thrive? no. also betta fish are supposed to live for two to four years.

Bettas don't really need filters or a heater. One one my girls have been alive for nearly a year in a 3 gallon tank with no heater or filter. She has no stress lines and is very active and goes right up to eat when I feed her. Amazing video, nontheless! He is beautiful.

+Barnacle you do need one because of the nitrogen cycle and beneficial bacteria. Also, a heater should always be used no matter the climate you live in.

Heaters would be best for people that live in colder climates. If you do water changes regularly you won't really need a filter but its still recommended.

Eeek! I hope you don't put salt in like that when you have the Betta in the tank. It can burn them, but the easy way around this is to dissolve the salt in a put with tank water and then pour it in.
Danica Wells
Danica Wells - 8 years ago
+TF-HP L-AQ a lower salt dosage can beneficial if the fish has finrot, yes, but remember to keep your fish at that dosage for no more than 10 days. I've heard salt can be hard on their livers.

+Vohmay Probably fine that you added salt, but again for precautionary measures you should add no more than 1 tsp per gallon of water. Finrot is caused my dirty water and high levels of toxins like ammonia and nitrite. If your fish is in clean water there's no need for salt. However this fish was new, so a one-time salt addition may be okay.

Just writing this so that lurkers can see it.
Toby m
Toby m - 8 years ago
+Vohmay you are right. When my fish get finrot, i also putt them in a salt water bath. But i dont putt the salt in the tank. I do not dare to take that risc my hole thank is going to die. But a saltwaterbath is healthy!
VillagerSparky

+Aqua.pets Oh? That's good to know, but I will stick to the method I described, just to be safe. :P
M. Youngdale
M. Youngdale - 8 years ago
The AQ salt actually cannot burn them if you use less than or the recommended amount. My Betta's fins were slightly ripped so I added it as a precaution so he didn't get finrot. I know what I'm doing and all of my fish are healthy and happy.

You forgot to Talk about the whole cycling thing which is important as your betta can die of ammonia and nitrites if you dont cycle your tank.
Bettas also need something to hide, something to rest on near the water surface and something that provides Cover for him from the top.
You also shouldnt add any salt unless you are treating him for some illness and only for a Maximum of 10 days, else it can make him sick.
Your betta is beautiful though and the tank size you chose is great :)

I know I didn't talk about it, I plan on making a separate video on cycling a tank. He has a floating betta log to hide and sleep in as well as plants, which have grown a lot since I made this video. Also, I am treating his fins because they got nipped. Thanks for your concern, but I know what I'm doing ;)
