i found this vid cause i just cleaned my betas bowl and he looked like he was dead but then i just saw his broken fin and all he was doing was trying to swim with a cut off fin.

Hey just wondering. Did this work? Because I have a betta and I've treated him with salt treatments twice (a week long each) with a week or so in between and It still seems to be getting worse. :( I've been keeping his tank really clean and doing daily water changes but nothing seems to be helping. I feel really horrible for my fish. Anybody have any advice?

find a betta fish forum and ask the community. theres a lot of controversy on bettafix. its a mild form of melafix. melafix is toxic to bettas. it damages the labrynth organ that enables them to breath air. i tried bettafix for 2 weeks for fin rot, my boy is now lethargic and is breathing strangely. i dont know, im following the directions correctly, other people have had success with it, on the other end, very experienced betta keepers believe its toxic. i wouldnt take the risk.

My betta has fin rot i want to know how much betta fix to use for a 2.5 galloon because people are telling me 2 1/2tsp I want to know if that is right and can I mix betta safe with betta fix

I really don't recommend betta fix as it costs their labyrinth glands. The safest way to treat fin rot is with aquarium salt or kanaplex

Where can I get kanaplex, I've never seen it before. Is most bacterial/fungal infection medicine okay. I'm thinking seachem polyguard. I would use salt but I have live plants.

I don't think my half moon beta has fin rot but he tore up his top fin pretty good. I had squid words house he loved going in and out of and I had plastic plants. I wound up taking everything out and replaced them with live plants and a smooth rock with a tunnel for hiding. I still took him out and he is in a 1 gallon tank that I change10% water every day to keep it clean. My local pet shop said as long as he has a clean environment he will heal pretty well. He had penguin tetras in with him in the 10 gallon tank. They are shy and stay away from my beta so I know they didn't nip at him. Been 2 days now, hopefully it doesn't take too long for his fins to fill back in.

I had my beta in a small cube tank for about 2 weeks. I scooped out some water every day to help keep the water clean. I also put in a couple drops of the stress conditioner, not much though. After 2 weeks I transferred him back in his regular tank. He was much happier. AND he is all better too.

Please help, I'm not sure exactly what sort of high-protein food I should be feeding my beta fish, and how much I should feed him daily (be specific, i'm new). You mentioned feeding your fish 1 to 2 granules more whilst teating Salt, so how many granules would you usually feed him?

When my betta had fin rot, i got him a bigger tank, cleaned the water and substrate, added more plants, just as he likes it, turned up the heat, and added salt to the water (1teaspoon per 10liters of water). I kept making water changes and his fins were fine again.
Bettas live in rice paddies, so they like their environments heavily grown and with little light. Your tank is not very well suited for a betta, and they can get several illnesses just from being stressed.

Melafix suffocated and killed my betta because it coated the inside of his labyrinth organ

Would you add stress coat every day or just every time you clean the tank? My betta just got fin rot. I have had him for almost two weeks now. His fins seem to be growing back and he is swimming more than before.

why don't you have a heater?bettas are tropical fish and most likely he got sick from a suppressed immune system.

You actually only want to remove the carbon from the filter, as it is the carbon that will absorb the meds. The filter needs to stay in the tank to clean the water and circulate the meds. A sick fish needs a working filter always!

just wanted to let people know that melafix is not recommended for bettas or any other fish with a lybrinth, it is thought to cause damage to their lybrinth organ. Bettafix is the same thing as Melafix but diluted to be made safe for bettas, I wouldn't risk using Melafix although many people think it is fine.
