The smallest algae eaters require a 20 gallon tank minimum. You could however do nerite snails, they're little and simple.

I want to keep a goldfish, but first I want to get a lot of info first. That's way my question.......Did you wait to get the tap water on room temperature before you had put the fish in, or did you put the fish straightaway in new water?

I didn't know he was dead and left for vacation but since he was dead my betta caught some disease and is still living after

If you create a Tank as close as possible to the natural habitat is not bad at all.
And i like to repeat myself: a filter is not bad at all if the flow is low and suits your individual fish! A betta with smaler finns can handle more flow - big finned ones can not. No filter is perfectly fine if you do regular water changes and keep an eye on the water parameters. That is by no means "outdated" - its timeless and will never change.
Sure u can keep them with other Fish which are on the ground and non agressive, but the betta dont give a d*mn about them and would rather be alone....
We could argue for days - each of us have a deadlocked opinion - so keep your fish tthe way you feel its good for him.
I for myself like to keep mine the best and most natural way possible
Ask youself: if you would be your Fish what would you like?
Edit: The lighting on the tank in the video is to bright for my taste - in combination with that white ground >.<
And opening another can: I think goldfish schould not be kept in a tank at all.... ( just another personal opinion - since many people get triggered by personal opinions in 2017 )
Everything you're stating here, erroneous information about filter and substrate requirements aside, is common, basic knowledge that any marginally competent betta keeper would know...it's hardly specialized expertise, which just makes it funny that you're acting like knowing this makes you an expert on keeping bettas.
The personalities of individual betta can vary greatly. Some bettas take well to having tankmates, and others do not. The fact that you aren't aware of how unique these fish can be doesn't speak well for the breadth of your experience as a betta keeper.
I can already tell by your attitude about filters for bettas that I've done far more research on them than you, because you still believe in outdated and disproven ideas about these fish. Filters keep water clean, and bettas prefer clean water. There are plenty of suitable filters that accommodate for the betta's long fins, and any competent aquarist would never advise keeping a betta in a small tank without a filter.
The only exception to this would be a Walstad tank, which is what you are describing, an ecosystem where the plants biologically filter the water to maintain water quality, but they are by no means the ONLY proper way to keep a betta, and to act as if they were is just plain untrue.
Rather than thinking you know everything there is about keeping bettas and only regurgitating the most basic, beginner's understanding of how to keep a betta, I suggest you do some more current research on fishkeeping and update your knowledge, because keeping fish is far more nuanced and open to variation than you seem to believe.
Their nature relatives live in flooded rice fields ... ( Dark ground no flow many plants...)
They dont need a filter and dont prefere flow at all. Particularly high-breeds
(By breeding them over centuries they got finns, wich are actually " too big" for them to swim properly)
A filter with very low flow is okay, but as is said already - the dont prefere or need it!
That in mind...
...if ur Tank has enough plants and your water changes are on point its perfect for them... I for myself messure the water quality every 2 months and its perfect every time!
- They schould have swimming plans on top for them to build a bubble nest
- Dont cover the entire surface with plants tho, cause they need to breathe air!
- Subsrate: Sure they dont "NEED" dark ground but sure they prefere it!
- Tank size: They prefere small tanks, cause they have a territory which they patrol. Big tanks and big terretory is stress

So : no filter / very low flow - many plants - dark ground is species appropirate and enhace the lifespan of the fish

Bettas do not require dark substrate. Plants are nice, but not absolutely necessary, and she already has plants in her tank. A 5 gallon tank is equal to 20 liters and is a perfectly acceptable sized tank for a single betta fish.
Bettas DO need a filter, like any other fish. They do prefer low flow, but it's patently false that they don't need a filter and low flow filters are available that are suitable for bettas. All fish need filters to keep their tanks clean. Without one, they have drastically shortened lifespans due to poor water quality.
Rather than spreading dangerous misinformation about fish, perhaps you should do more research on the subject before trying to educate people who are clearly more well informed on the subject than you.

you have a heater at least, though, right? bettas NEED a heater. and the container should be cycled. but I'm assuming it's not. please research pets, even fish, before buying them.
i subscribed , i used to raise and breed betta till i ended up with 300 fry at once and drove my husband nuts so we gave all fry mom and dad to a pet store but i loved it and miss it

which I've reduced from a 55 gallon tank because all my fish except 2 have died ( the others died of age had them for 10 & 5 yrs ) any help will be appreciated.

Do you guys know if I can put my hand inside the tank without worrying to somehow damage the water? Not like I'm gonna stick my hand all day, but if I need I want to be sure I won't kill my Betta lol.
i wanted to ask, what was the name of the gravel ? dont you see a lot of poop or dirt lying on it? (although i guess itd make it easier to clean)
I also modified my filter flow by pulling off the little nozzle at the end and shoving a piece of fine sponge in there. so that's another option for fixing the flow.
Betta fish can jump out of the water sometimes

and for all you haters out there I'm working on getting him a bit of a bigger home, but for now he's happy and healthy and that's all I'm concerned with.
think of nature.water is consantly flowing picking up minerals and other things and desposting it evenly.when water doesn't get moved around it turns into salt lakes do to minrals not being moved aroind by water flow.
but aquaponics are good for lessoning the amount of water changes you need to do.
Oh yeah, that's right, it's solid gold!!
