I think with the dwarf frogs it may make it a little too small if you divide it. Our dividers are easy to use. If you have the tank already set up you'd need to remove all decorations and divide the gravel. Add the divider and you're all good to go. All our divider information is on our website.

I did this, but i put the holes bigger (not that big) for my gerbils. I'm getting a new gerbil because I had two and one died, so I'm getting a new one. Gonna switch the gerbils four to five times a day so that the new gerbil and the old gerbil can get used to the scents of each other. :)

Can I put one male on either side, with the holes in the divider or will the males see each other and get stressed or try to fight?
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
Yes, you can put a male on each side. They can only see each other periodically and as long as the tank is heavily decorated they will be fine.
Amanda Gonzalez
Amanda Gonzalez - 7 years ago
do you only need one heater? or one heater per area
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
One heater in a 10 gallon divided tank. You may need two in a 20 gallon long tank if you divided it 3 or 4 ways.
Sinto Joseph
Sinto Joseph - 7 years ago
it was good but divider need to be transparent.
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
Not for bettas. Bettas ideally shouldn’t see each other all the time otherwise they will get stressed. It is ok to give bettas flare time either seeing themselves in a mirror or other bettas but not 24/7. If it’s for other fish you can use acrylic and then they can see each other.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I heard you can't put male and female bettas together in a divided tank because of hormones. Or is that plakat a male?

I bought a unique aquarium that already came with a divider that has holes. I now have my two male bettas in it, but every little bit my King betta sees the other one and flares up. I'm worried this will over stress him, so is there a way I could cover the holes on the divider I already have? Thank you!

You can take the black bars off but it probably won't firmly fit your tank. Using those was the only way to make the divider adjustable to fit a variety of different tanks.

Hi I want to get a 5 gallon and divide it with my male and female betta my dad is going to help me put a pvc glass divider but not holes the bottom where the gravel is isn't going to be close like it's going to be all the way down but still be the same water is that of do I need to still buy another heater for the other half or should I just drill holes
Angie Camacho
Angie Camacho - 7 years ago
Lifewithpets oh I know I'm going to get black pvc
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
If the glass is siliconed I guess it should be ok but If they can see each other you'd need to find a way to black it out. They'd be so stressed otherwise.
Angie Camacho
Angie Camacho - 7 years ago
Lifewithpets Oh OK I don't have space for two tanks any more so if I put glass in the middle and silicone it it's fine right it'll be like two tanks in one
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
Ideally a male and female should not share the same tank even if divided. The hormones they release into the water will cause them a great deal of stress.

Lifewithpets

Yes with or without holes works well. We now sell both on our website. If you don't do holes you will definitely need filtration on both sides.
Giancarlo Soto-Cervantes
Giancarlo Soto-Cervantes - 7 years ago
Hey life with pets do you think that a top fin 10 gallon filter on one side will be enough to filter both sides of the tank if i were to divide it with one of your dividers?(The one with holes)
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
Yes you could use a sponge filter. The airstone would work too. I do prefer filtration on both side of a divided tank though.
Giancarlo Soto-Cervantes
Giancarlo Soto-Cervantes - 7 years ago
Hey Lifewithpets would a sponge filter be appropriate to put in with the top fin 10 gallon filter when I've divided the tank? I read that its better than an air stone because it filters and creates oxygen,is this true?
Giancarlo Soto-Cervantes
Giancarlo Soto-Cervantes - 7 years ago
Ok thank you so much so all I will probably need is an air stone too have water surface movement. Again thanks so much.
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
Yes it would be enough, it's whether the flow will be too strong. We do recommend if you're having filtration on one side only that you add an airstone on the other side for a little water surface movement. I've seen several people use sponges as dividers and whilst I think it's a good short term option they eventually will collapse over time. The one factor they talk about the most is that's it's difficult to clean.
Giancarlo Soto-Cervantes
Giancarlo Soto-Cervantes - 7 years ago
Also do you think that black sponge would be good for dividing a tank?

ADAM'S TV
ADAM'S TV - 7 years ago
Ok thank you very much!
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
ADAM'S TV If you're going to divided the tank you can have two. Otherwise one Betta. You need a minimum 10 gallon for females if you want to do a sorority. Ideally a minimum of 5 females in a very heavily planted tank. Sororities often fail so you need to be sure you have enough tanks available if you need to separate them.

You had the best dividers in YouTube so I made 3 of them for a 20 gallon long. Just waiting for the tank to cycle then 4 new bettas from Coast Gem - where you got your goldfish! Luckily I live in San Diego! Thank you so much for your video!!

Thank you so much, it's good to get positive feedback and see the finished product. Your tank looks amazing!! It's a good job I don't live close to Coastgemusa otherwise I'd be in there all the time.....lol!

What's a good filter for a betta tank?
boogiemanspud
boogiemanspud - 8 years ago
Aquaclear 20 works wonderfully from anything from 5-20 gallons. It has a control for flow rate. It's very gentle and good for bettas which don't like strong current. It's inexpensive and has real biomedia and rinsable foam (this saves lots of money over replacement cartridges). Just rinse the foam out in tank water (or non chlorinated water) and you're good to go.

It depends on the size of the tank. What size is the tank?

Where did you get that and do you need the holes?
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 8 years ago
You can buy it at Home Depot or Lowes. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Palight-ProjectPVC-12-in-x-12-in-x-0-236-in-Foam-PVC-Black-Sheet-159842/206402741?MERCH=RV-_-rv_gm_pip_rr-_-205437929-_-206402741-_-N You don't have to put the holes in but if you don't you'd need to use filtration on both sides of the tank.

Just watched the video and was wondering why you measured the width of the tank on the bottom and the width under the lip... Wouldn't they both be the same length? Which one did you use to make your divider?

Thank you so much! Was planning on dividing a 55 gallon :)

Thanks for watching. The measurements top and bottom should be the same but often there is slight variation. We've only had slight measurement variations so we go with the smaller measurement and that always gives a good fit.

Hi there, I was planning to make a divider and was curious if this is similar to the material you used and if this would work?

+ShutUpSelby Yes, this looks like the same product just a different brand name. I don't see why it wouldn't work. If in doubt you should be able to buy acrylic at Home Depot too.

that's the best! idea ever! for a divider! you are SO clever I LOVE that idea you are also VERY creative ;-) its more work then making a mesh divider but it's sooooooooo much better and sturdy and it TOTALLY works! and it looks a lot more neat and pretty then a mesh divider plus it matches the black frame around the tank! such! a great idea!!! where did you get that black pvc stuff???
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 8 years ago
+Animal Lover Thank you! We got the Pvc from my husbands work, but you can find it in Lowes or Home Depot. It's not expensive. I'm sure your parents could help you make something like this. I fortunate that my husband likes DIY projects
