Mark Steinmetz Bettas need a minimum of 2.5 gallons to live in, 5 gallons being ideal. A half gallon is to small for any fish.

I was nearly ready for subbing till I saw this video. That's just cruel keeping them in cups, no better than petsmart & Petco.

Get those bettas in a 5g EACH at least.

I mentioned in both the video AND the description of the video that this was a temporary set up. They are in a 20gal tank now. Quarantine fish before putting them in a tank is common practice in the fish-keeping hobby to ensure the fish do not spread any disease or parasites to other fish.

there flaring and there tanks (bowls)you are not good at keeping betta no offense 2.5g per betta
Creative Pet Keeping
Creative Pet Keeping - 7 years ago
I did not have 5..2.5 gal spare tanks to use for 2 weeks to quarantine my females and since they are aggressive they needed to be separate before they could be put in a large enough tank.
Their water was changed daily, they had a stable temperature. They were fine and now they are happy in their large tank :)

Great tip! Here is a tip for you. If you use an air pump to move the water around the heater it will spread the heat better than it just staying stagnant. The water currents will move the heated water around instead of all the headed water just staying at the heater.

Actually yes. If the container is sterile and clean and has never had any chemicals in it then its totally possible. Just don't fill it all the way as it can warp the container.

I had a beautiful moon large fined betta in a 10 gallon tank with 2 Cory cats (yes I know they should be in a school I'm working on it) and 2 Apple snails and the betta jumped out I recently put a hood on it because he jumped out I did everything to save him but he only lived 6 hours after I found him on the floor I don't understand why he jumped out he seemed happy and I tested my water everything looked great he had plenty of hiding spaces got stressed the cat fish never bothered him and he never bothered them so I don't think it was them I feed him blood worms and basic betta food I just don't I know why he jumped out

I'm sorry that sucks. My very first female betta I had did that and the male who was next to her hit his lid/flap/thing, opening it, and then he jumped after her. She was already dead and but I managed to save him. He lived for another year and died at like 3 and a half. Now, my new betta, is old af and he never jumps out of the water at all.

Thank you so much! I have not tested the water, but I am getting a new tank for him. It will have fresh, new water but it will still have good bacteria. He is pretty old, about two years. I have searched the internet and I found one case that sounds exactly the same to his. Nobody knew what it was and that fish died. I will try the website you gave me. Thanks so much!
Creative Pet Keeping
Creative Pet Keeping - 8 years ago
How old is he? What is the temperature of the water? Have you tested the water quality? Here is a website with common betta sicknesses and photos. Look through it and maybe you might be able to match up what is wrong with him. http://bettatalk.com/betta_diseases.htm

I have this fish that was blue, he is a male beta. The back half of his body is turning white and his fins have white spots all over them. Also the tips of his fins look rotted. He is excited for food but it seems to me that it looks like it is hard for him to grab it. I am trying ick medication and possibly fin rot. Do you have any tips? I want to save his life, and I love him very much.... It would mean a lot to me if you helped... Thank you....

I uploaded the video. You can watch it, it is titled Sick Fish.
Creative Pet Keeping
Creative Pet Keeping - 8 years ago
I just saw the second comment. First of all, the fact that you identified his fin rot and ick is good. I would change most of the water..maybe 70% so he has very clean water. Medicine will help.. also lowering the water level for a while so he can get to the surface faster will help. You can add a little bit of aquarium salt and if you could order a banana or almond leaf online those are proven to help bettas with fin rot. I really hope he gets better!
