The Cobra
The Cobra - 7 years ago
This method might have worked if the bottles never filled up with water and the air could just keep flowing . And a very small diy sponge filter thats been circulated properly can be fitted to this small amount of air . But even if this could work what idiot wants to put their fish through this stress . A air pump doesn't take much power , this is just stupid .
CrazyJunkCreations
CrazyJunkCreations - 7 years ago
+The Cobra this is creativity. Nothing else
The Cobra
The Cobra - 7 years ago
Don't try this at home with your fish they will die . This stupid idiot that made this video forgot to say that the second bottle will fill up with water in less then 40 minutes . Also a filter is not just about bubbles , its to remove Ammonia in the water . Ammonia is created from fish waste and left over food and a proper filter is needed to remove this toxin .
El rey
El rey - 7 years ago
The Cobra if you're dumb enough to substitute a real pump/filter with this thing you don't deserve to have an aquarium.
CrazyJunkCreations
CrazyJunkCreations - 7 years ago
+The Cobra this pump only push the air in second bottle to the tank. No ammonia, no toxins inject to water.

If you have small fish tanks you could make these if the power goes out.
rallekralle11

clever idea. though i wouldn't want to use it for an aquarium, you'd have to pour the water back every 15-30 minutes or so. i'd prefer to pay for the tiny bit of electricity a normal air pump needs, than have to do that all the time.

+Shariq Shaikh no man. No need to blow continues. Only at first time, the wafer from first bottle needs to flow to second bottle. Thats y it keep at height. Then the water will flow automatically to second lower level bottle and the air from lower bottle will pust out throuth the output tube

if you're breathing into the tube, isnt the fish getting carbondioxide instead of oxygen?
Mikhaila Janni
Mikhaila Janni - 7 years ago
Guys, the oxygen isnt from the person’s carbon dioxide. The bubbles created by blowing air into the tube+bottle creates breakage in the water surface and in turn liquify the oxygen in the surface of the water
Rob Snider
Rob Snider - 7 years ago
Yes and no. He basically made a siphon pump. By setting the first bottle higher than the second and blowing in the top, he forces water out the second tube and into the second bottle. This c starts the siphon effect which drains the water into the secondly bottle. As the water switches bottles it pushes the air out of the second bottle through the second bottle's, second tube. The only air reaching the tank will be the air that is displaced from the second bottle and not the human breath used to start the siphon in the first bottle.

Just make both side identical, once the water in top bottle is emptied you could just reverse the position.
Back2OriginalNature
Back2OriginalNature - 7 years ago
I think that kinda defies nature laws..
Nevertheless, may be can allow the water to leak out of the bottom bottle at a slower rate in a way that air could still be push into the water.. and then manually refill the top bottle w/o re-setup the system.
Back2OriginalNature
Back2OriginalNature - 7 years ago
Can use a clamp to clamp the tube to reduce the rate to extremely slow.

Seems legit.
Kevlar Canuck
Kevlar Canuck - 7 years ago
Fyi most of the oxygen gets into an aquarium through the surface. Either your fish make enough currents to circulate water to/from the surface, or a large surface area for a few small fish is sufficient for them to respire. Your fish will likely be ok without any water or air circulation unless it is crowded and/or you have a large mass of fish compared to surface area. Large goldfish in a small fishbowl is the worst type and you will need to supply air or circulation because of the small surface.

This bottle principle will seriously not save you much money and any pump this can replace is definitely affordable, a one shot purchase of about $12. But it has some use. Honestly though if you want to go that route then I suggest using two MUCH larger containers if you wish this to have any measurable advantage to fish. Otherwise you will be filling that little bottle every couple minutes. Make it easy on yourself, try to use big bottles/pails/barrels. You only need the bottom one sealed with the 2 tubes. A couple bubbles a second won't do squat to supply dissolved air, but those bubbles can be used to create surface turnover circulation if they are released to one side of the aquarium from the bottom.

I hope this can help you and others use this idea for better advantage.

You also mentioned that these people live miles better than the average person in a first-world country... In what way? And even if they did, does the majority of the populace get to enjoy that luxury?
aliciacb8284747274
aliciacb8284747274 - 7 years ago
J F I forgot to say an actual percentage would be hard to figure out, but there are only 48 out of 195/6 countries left in the world which would be considered "third world". Many are now at varying levels of development

Based on the true meaning of third world that would include places like Ireland, Sweden, India etc which are definitely not destitute
aliciacb8284747274
aliciacb8284747274 - 7 years ago
J F I studied Cold War history, the terms first second and third arose from countries allied with the USA, Soviet Union and ones which had no alliance. It's a largely obsolete way of thinking about countries' wealth, resources etc. There are few true "third world countries" left in the world. Most are now developing nations which whilst are still represented as being poor according to some set standard have many of the things we do. A true "third world country" would indeed have very few in their population who would be considered even well off by our standards e.g. Haiti
J F

J F
J F - 7 years ago
+aliciacb8284747274 - Just curious, where did you learn that from? Also, you say third-world countries have plenty of people in them who do perfectly well - How much is 'plenty', i.e. percentage of the population?
aliciacb8284747274
aliciacb8284747274 - 7 years ago
J F third world actually meant countries without an allegiance to either USA or communism during the Cold War. Third world countries have plenty of people in them who do perfectly well and who actually lives miles better than the average person in a first world country

Well,i should see you "rich" when you have 100$+ of fish in tank and your pump dies, and you live in fucking city with 2 petshops carrying only fish food and live fish.No equipment for
aquariums.
Yes i have spare pump,but if i wasn't selling these fish i probably wouldn't.
Or what if power goes out?
Fishkeeping and breeding is my hoby, and i manage to pull a few bucks from it,not a lot considering single betta is sold for 1.10$.
Now with food and electricity costs i get around 75-80 cents per fish.
And i don't really care how much i earn,i even gift fish to new aquarium owners and people that dont resell them.
If this was my main job, which is possible,i couldn't see myself killing 500-900 and losing monthly pay because power went out or something broke.
And yes, this system may not be best for 10 185l tank aquariums(i have small house in woods kinda far from city(10+km) that we dont use as there isnt electricity and fresh water, but i installed solar panels and car batteries to acumulate power for light and pumps.)

Stephen Collins - 8 years ago
No, it works just as an aquarium siphon does. The water is siphoned from the top bottle to the lower bottle, once the water is in the lower bottle it pushes the air out of it which then goes to the tank. Once the bubbles appear you shouldn't have to blow into the tube. If it isn't working you may need to raise the upper bottle to a higher location.

Whats a good way to slow down the rate of the air so last longer is to add a control valve (air valve) to slow the water or air down.
If u dnt need much air but jus for a slight water agitation in a sml blow/tank to ur desired need.

U hav to make SURE that it is AIR tight..
Most importan!! & WATER BOTTLE ON TOP EMPTY ON BOTTOM.

STEPS..

Then one the 1st bottle u blow in the short air tubing pushing water to exit through the long 2nd tubing into the empty bottle, thats when the air in the empty bottle get pushed out (bubbles exiting) while the (2nd bottle, has to b lower than the 1st;lik a syphon action) empty bottle is being filled up with the 1st bottle water.
As the 1st bottle empty u have to swap the empty bottle to the bottom n full to the top.
Full bottle --> blow air --> water pass through empty bottle --> empty bottle release air as bottle fills up.
(Like a swap of bottle in 1out the other, if u het the drift..)
