Hi! Completely unrelated but I really need advice. To start off, I love your videos and your tanks and fish are so utterly beautiful! Okay now that that is out of the way; I have a neon tetra that has a bad swim bladder issue. The water is completely fine, I test with the API testing kit. I have tried multiple methods of healing such as: peas, aquarium salt, upping the water temperature, adding oxygen to the tank, and even gave him a small salt-bath. Nothing has worked, and I’ve seen no improvements in the little guy. I’m worried I’ll have to euthanize him soon, since it’s so sad for me to see him struggle to gain balance. If there is any advice you have for me, please have at it!

Edit: He’s in a tank with around five other neons, planted, 10 gallons, and no bigger fish.
Edit of an edit: He is in a wide breeder box at the moment, so the other fish do not bother him and he doesn’t hurt himself more.

Lifewithpets one time my fish jumped out and I couldn’t find him, maybe a few hours later I see him on the corner of the room so far away from the tank. And he was dry and felt like if I was touching a leaf. I put him back in his tank and it did take him a whole week for him to stop clamping. He was also purple Cellophane and then he marbled to a back and white betta.

My male half moon jumped out of his tank and completely dried out it was sad and kinda gross seeing a betta fish like that, their so pretty and have very nice colors and cool desigs.

What temperature is your Betta fish tank water?? Is 22° ok?

22c is too low ideally you need 26-27c.

Erika's Life It should be around 78°f which is 25°c i would say 22 is a bit too low.

Hello, I have a betta that bites his tail but has never jumped out of his tank. He is in a 5 gallon fluval spec. Baffled flow so he isn’t being pushed around the tank by the filter.

Vanessa Olson hi! I have the same Fluval Spec 5 gallon tank for my betta fish. I’ve cut a piece of canvas mesh to cover that rectangular opening on the lid!! My betta fish also nipped at his tail I don’t know why. Through research, they say it could be a genetic behavior. Hope that helps

Adoo Yeah, mine jumps up to the rim for food and thats just a few centimeters out of the water.

I have a veiltail betta that jumped a ton. When I was acclimating him in the community he jumped out of his cup twice. I also put a pellet on the tip of my finger and he jumps up to grab it. It's really cute!

I've had a female betta jump out of a tiny hole like that, sadly found on the floor next morning. I cut a piece of meah to lay over the hole.

Hi Shelia, I just have a question. I have a female halfmoon betta that is dark silver/grey with a little hint of white on her belly. Her fins are pink and a lighter pink is on the edge of her fins and the lighter pink also appears as streaks in her fins. I have been doing research on this but couldn't find anything. I was hopind that you would know the answer on this betta's condition. Thanks so much if you have an answer to my question, pls reply to this comment.Thanks!!

You can also lower the water level I know some guppy breeders keep their water level lower so the guppies cant jump out

You are very lucky he didn’t get it injury I had one of my betas spill out of his tank only 2 feet off the floor and he ended up getting a lot of damages on both side flanks like tumors that exploded took him about a month and he did he left thankfully

+Lifewithpets it's low but not super low . After what happened to you I'll keep it lower though . I'd be so upset if anything would happen to my dear female betta Eleanor or to her lovely tankmates. Have been using lidless tanks for 2 years and never had a fish jumped out of the water . But I have had Eleanor only for 4 months . It would be terrible to lose her this way . She is the queen of my tank .

You could use a piece of mesh that many use for tank dividers as a cover for the feeding hole.

My water level is lower to prevent that kind of thing ! I have a feeding hole twice that size, I wouldn't like my betta to jump !

My bigger female halfmoon will jump at my fingers when I hold food above the water, she gets her body almost entirely out. I qt’d her in a medium critter keeper, she would jump when I opened the hatch to feed. Now she’s in a 10g with a metal mesh top (meant for reptiles) and she has hit it once while feeding. Now I drop the food pretty quickly and get my hand away so she doesn’t try.

Lids for betta fish are really important. I really love the floating plants, this one is frog bit. Sadly Water lettuce is illegal in my state.

I had a betta for about 3 years as a kid and he jumped out regularly. I never thought of a good way to cover the space near my filter but this time around I have some flexible clear plastic and I'm taping it down.

My mastiff knocked over my 3.5 gallon tank, the little guy was final healing from a fungal infection. Made it somewhat in time, I ran him under water and put him in a tiny tank. Thought he was gonna make it, woke up the next morning and he passed. Mom is bringing me to a local pet store to get another one. Excited but sad at the same time.log Bhai

Awe poor baby jumped out, I hope he makes a quick recovery. I have a hole on my top lid too and I'm always paranoid so I put a jar of food on it too just in case. I had female jump years ago, very sad day.

I've had a betta jump out of a small hole as well. No matter how chill bettas can be they will try to jump.

This is the first time we've ever had one jump. It's usually due to poor water quality which was why I was freaking out something must have gone wrong with the water, but it was all perfect.
