Hey so I use to feed my bettas an aqueon pellet food. I use to feed them twice a day but noticed that they were getting fat. So I decided to feed them only once a day(2 pellets) and they still have a big belly. I just recently bought an all natural flake food without any meal in it. I’m going to stick with the natural flake but do you think they got big bellied bc of the meal in the old pellet food or because I have duckweed in my tank. I haven’t seen them ever take a bite of it since the day i introduces it but idk.

Dear, Life of Pets. I have been having ALOT of ammonia problems in my 5 gallon for my betta. He unfortunately passed but I tried my best getting the ammonia down. I did water changes, stability, prime, and I also had live plants. I know a bigger tank is better but unfortunately a 5 gallon all I can have at the time. Anyways I cleaned everything in the tank and I'm letting it cycle. Do you have any tips for cycling and reducing ammonia? Thank you so much ❤️
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
The only way to reduce ammonia is not overstocking a tank and water changes. Cycling takes patience once it’s fully cycled weekly water changes should be enough as long as you’re got good filtration.

About two weeks ago we had an accident while cleaning my betta’s tank. He got stuck in the syphon while i was trying to remove it. He lost a lot of scales and his tail fins (which is growing back now).
I put him in a smaller tank (not to high for him) with a heater and a bubble filter. We gave him antibiotics and for the first few days i thought he wasn’t going to make it.
Thankfully he’s doing fin, his scales are starting to grown back and his tail fins are going back.
However one of his propeller fins is torn, i don’t know if those heal on their own.
I suppose I’ll move him back into his tank when his tail fin is nearly grown.

This video was amazing! I can't wait for the new updates to the tanks. By the way, there is this wonderful website, http://www.kensfish.com , that sells all sorts of aquarium supplies, including tanks, filters, food etc. It is really great, and I highly recommend it. The prices are very reasonable, and it is absutely amazing.

it's a shame Bandit is a stone cold killa... I'm guessing you can't breed him? What a shame. Your tanks still look really pretty - too bad about the leaks! :(
Big City Bettas
Big City Bettas - 7 years ago
Betta splendens are naturally not only aggressive, but insectivores. Many bettas are snail and invertibrate killers. This has zero reflection on the fishes ability to breed. It probably doesn't even mean he's "aggressive" so much as a piggy who wants to eat anything he can. Sounds like a normal betta to me! Out of my spawn of 68 I only have 6 who haven't killed the test snails I put in their jars.

Lifewithpets true and o hope we do get an upgrade in sizes in America. Evan if it is a five gallon minimum it's better then 2.5

also I am sorry about the hate you reisive. I did not intend this comment as hate. an o know how you feel about getting hate about tank minimums. I am sorry of my comment came of as hate. it was not intended as that
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
There are many serious breeders and reasearches that actually believe bettas are better kept in one gallon and under. I know many breeders who keep their bettas in one gallon containers and here’s what I’ve noticed. Those bettas are happy, no disease or fin biting which is a very common problem in bettas today because people put them in larger tanks with little to no plants and places for them to feel secure. Bettas need very heavily planted tanks and this is very often lacking. Obviously breeder set ups are very different to keeping a Betta as a pet and I’m not saying we should keep them on one gallon. Pet stores sadly sell tanks a half gallon and under. So many people listen and believe what they’re being told by the pet stores, they don’t add heaters and filters and then wonder why the fish dies. I have been advocating on this channel for an absolute 2.5 gallons minimum which is the standard recommendation and have seen such a change for the better in how bettas are being kept. So many were kept without heaters and filters in half gallon to one gallon bowls and that is slowly changing. Whilst I personally think 5-10 gallons is preferable not everyone is going to do that or listen and I get a lot of hate for that. I think it is better to work with people where they’re at than to condem them for not agreeing with an opinion. Other countries have very different standards, some countries say a minimum of 15 gallons whilst other countries say a half gallon, but we have to work with the standards in our county. I think things in America are changing and over time 5 gallons will become the ‘new’ minimum.
aby f
aby f - 7 years ago
Donny7704 animal jam Well many people still go by that rule, so it's not outdated. Listen, I would love it if people kept their bettas in a 10+ aquarium just as much as you, but that's just not the case sometimes. Look at it this way, at least 2.5 is being recommend rather than a .5 We're not saying that a betta MUST be kept in a 2.5 gal. but that it's the absolute minimum. Of course if they're able to get a bigger aquarium, it's highly recommended. But some people just want a betta and are unable to spend money on the biggest aquarium so they're recommended the bare minimum. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that's something you must understand. Many still go by that rule that you call "outdated" and that's ok.
Donny7704 animal jam
Donny7704 animal jam - 7 years ago
Lifewithpets actually that minimum is outdated. idk why America always has the smallest minimums but Germany has 15 gallons for there minimum why can't we have a 10 gallon or 15 gallon for are minimum the 2.5 gallon minimum is gallon per inch rule. and which has been proven wrong
Lifewithpets
Lifewithpets - 7 years ago
The absolute minimum is 2.5 gallon but 5-10 gallons is preferable.
