Male Betta Fish Together in Same Tank as Tank Mates

http://bettafishcaretaker.com The question of being able to keep male Betta fish together is an open discussion. I make sure to tell all beginners that this is not possible and you should never introduced to mail beta fish together in the same tank. But if you are not a beginner and you are intermediate to experience level then you can dabble with things like this because it is possible. I get a lot of negative comments on my other videos when I tell people that as beginners but I am actually aware of the fact that it is possible so yeah. One of the tricks to doing this is to displace aggression in the right areas to where the beta fish are not feeling aggressive anymore. Most of the time other fish are needed that are more aggressive and faster to where the beta fish almost backs down with his aggression levels.

I feel like the live plants help a lot but I feel like bettas can be kept kinda like cichlids. If you have 2 or 3 they will kill each other. But if you have like 6 or 7 the picking is so spread out that it no longer really affects the fish. So lots of bettas with lots of cover I think is the best way to keep multiple bettas in the same tank. Oh and you must add all of them at the same time with all nutritional objects and all new tank and all new filters.

I think if you put a lot of plants and hiding placing and a big tank and pick? the least aggressive betta fish at you store most likely you will be good on putting them in the same tank

I have a tank with 2 feet wide and 1 foot deep, in which I got 2 male bettas and 2 female ones and many other smaller fishes. i've made a observation for a while, and found out with a lot of plants or some places with shades that can hide in, and the smller fishes as distractions, the bettas basically don't fight for real, there could be some chasing or bluffing, but they've never realy fought with each others.

Got any videos? Love seeing male bettas in large aquariums, rather than glass bowls. I'm thinking of introducing 2 more males to my 170l that has 1 male and 3 juvenile angels, see how they get on. I've got separate 19l tanks spare in case it all goes wrong :D

from what i understand, if betta SIBLINGS are raised and kept together in a large enough/well planted tank, they will be fine, but still a chance of some developing aggression. some bettas are just more aggressive than others intrinsically i think. you could also keep male and females together using this method but they'd breed eventually.

The fish are not getting along right before our eyes we watched one die and as it falls another fish takes a bite out of it...looks like an all for one and one for it's self in that aquarium:(

You need a large tank, like 30 gallons for 2 males, heavily decorated with nooks to hide and escape and other small compatible fishes to distract them. But that doesn't even always work. It is heavily depended on the personality. One of my male betta is very chill and rarely flares. The only male goes batty.

I think you need an established community of fish that they get along with to keep them in line, with enough room and space.  You also need to 'socialize your fish'  adding 5 bettas into one tank all by themselves  all at once would probably be a bad idea, but if you add one betta to a tank of 4 mollies and they get along, add in another betta, let that one get socialized, etc etc.  I currently have a small red Vtail and a large blue and red crown tail in a 10 gallon tank together with other tetras and mollies no aggression.  Im going to add in my Delta Tail later this week, but my half-moon is more elderly, and other fish make him uncomfortable.  Know your fish, and everything should go well :)

See when I was younger I actually had two male bettas in one tank for almost two years after the red one died I actually found out that usually this can't happen but I just thought all bettas do that!

Their find are ripped. They have been fighting. You need a massive tank to keep more than 1 male. At least 1000L

The most I've had was I bought a male and female, and the female was more aggressive. I've tried another time having a male and two females together. The boy was girl crazy, and he was fine, the females were the problem.

I think maybe if you stock your tank heavily with other fish (tetras, corys, danios, guppies, mollies etc) the betta fish would ignore each other. It works with African cichlids. The heavier the stock of cichlids the less aggression because there is no room to fight, and the dominant ones cant only single out one fish, they will have to attack a bunch of fish. This works the same with tiger barbs, the smaller the school of tiger barbs, the more nipping. I had 3 tiger barbs and two would pick on one, but now I have seven and there is no longer disputes in the tank.

I think it's temperament. If you have a male betta that does well in a community tank, I'd try it out. I have two male bettas in a ten gallon that do not acknowledge each other whatsoever.  They even swim next to each other. This was after I kept them in a 29 gallon for a long time, and due to money, I had to downgrade in size. It's two crowntails.  However, I have a Plakat betta that has his own five gallon because he has even attacked the tiny snails in his tank. (Plus he would chase the poor crowntails because they would be slower)

I check my crowntails daily. They have no tears on their fins what so ever. They live with four corydoras, two upsidedown catfish and two gold cloud minnows.
I would say that tank decorations, hiding places, and plants definitely hep with aggression.

Pretty amazing to see them getting along. I'd think they'd need to be from the same spawn and raised together from birth, for starters. Also, every betta has a unique personality. they are all very different from one another. Some guys are very chill and wouldn't hurt a flea, others will murder anything that moves. So, if there are a bunch in a "growout tank" together, and they are selectively removed as they begin to act agressive, there may be a few at the end of that process who get along fine.

i've seen this in a 100gal tank, 3 males and 1 female. Not many plants 2 for the most and the guy said it was due to the size of the tank. I've yet to try it myself probably will tomorrow in my 120.

never seen that before, but im sure if there is enough space and also plants then it would be possible!
