Hi Rachel, I chose to comment under this particular video because I think you can give great advice about running several tanks when we're worrying about fire hazards. It's so easy to keep plugging in lights and heaters and extension cords and I wanted to ask did you ever do a great video for everyone to ensure nobody is going to burn down their home making a fish room, and can we push being safe and efficient if we run several tanks? It's a real safety issue and I don't think people realise when they start this hobby, mixing electricity and water. I think you could be the person to make a real point out there about it, and hopefully it would save some lives too ! Your videos are so great and I would love to hear your take on safety and cost.

Thanks Rachel, I just bought some power breakers to plug the extension cords into, but even so, it's a worry especially in hot weather ! I scared myself watching some electrical overloads ! : )

Annie Nielsen looks like she has most the tanks rigged with sponge filters and is using a large air pump to run the whole operation. 90% of large "fish rooms" use sponge filters. Cheap, easy, and baby fish friendly.

john darmiento The tanks aren't jails. Most of those fish have outlived their life span if they lived in the wild. The hobby does have its negative effects but the positive outweigh the negative. Plus she breeds most of them so she's helping with increasing the population of the captive bred fish so that suppliers don't have to catch them in the wild and destroy the wild populations.

It's about few months old tanks. Could it be because of small bubble quantity? With big quantity I cannot sleep due to the noise.

wow cool, do you ever consider expanding your native north american fish collection? i think gulf coast pygmy sunfish would be a cool species spotlight.

I am going to be building another one soon and will do that then. They are welded, not something everyone could do but certainly it may be interesting to some.

hey Rachel i was just wondering i have heard that corries dont like bare bottoms because it can damage there barbels im obviously not as advanced as you in the hobby and i was just wanting to know whether or not this is true and if it is what you do to be able to keep yours that way as i saw that some have bits of bare bottom ?

Most of my QT tanks are bare bottom. It is MUCH easier to maintain excellent water quality without substrate, which is more important for the short term with the fish. When I am setting up a display tank, i would use very fine gravel or sand for cories. If I have them for a long time in my qt tanks, I will add a scattering of substrate for their comfort. It is true that substrate is important as part of many cory species natural feeding behavior, as well.

You know what else would be really insightful would be a 'fish room maintenance' where we get to see all the effort that goes into keeping it all healthy.
