Don’t feed the betta fish flakes. They swallow too much water when they eat them. Using pellets makes your fish live longer. Also, buy a tank instead of a bowl. The tanks have a filter and with the bowls you have to fully clean them once a week so your fish can be healthy. With a tank you don’t have to clean it that often and your fish lives longer. For the water buy some fish conditioner for the water. Put it in a big container of tap water and let it sit of 24 hours when you clean the tank

Your betta fish will last at most a couple years, when in reality they should last over 3-5 years
Plus, with a bowl, you do not know the exact amount of gallons it holds, as it is actually smaller for the fish than youd think.
So unless your tank is HEAVILY planted, you are injuring your fish for your own selfish need.
You can only have so little of the water before you become sick. There has even been a woman that joined a water drinking contest and she brought distilled water, and had to hold her pee in. And drinking distilled water WITH holding pee is going to lead to a death.

Betta are sub tropical fish, which come from ponds in asia. But dont be fooled by the seemingly small ponds, because these ponds stretch for miles. And bettas are used to swimming around in that much space.
Betta like to swim around a lot, and like to show off their colors too. But if they arent able to swim much (due to little space), they will be VERY unhappy, will fade color, and will not move much.
