So pretty!!! I am glad you got a bigger tank. To be honest I did the same thing. I had mine in a Half liter. And with you making this video now your are helping break the myth. Thanks. Sorry if I was rambling.

you actually are doing a great job, for what looks like no offense, a beginner at betta keeping. though, bettas do absolutely need a filter and silk or live plants, so the plastic cannot tear there fins

I have two males Sushi, and Rio. Rio is a 1 gallon tank and is pretty happy, Sushi is in a half gallon tank and is not happy. I'm so excited I'm getting sushi a new 1 gallon tank! I know it's not that big, but my mom won't get me anything bigger :( But I'm still really excited because it is double size his tank. We rarely go to petco, we buy in bulk for dog and cat food so once every 2 months. 1 gallon is 13 $ at Walmart ):

The size of the tank... Now that is a matter of opinion. I know people who kept healthy bettas in a gallon fish tank. Betta spendens, the colorful Bettas from the stores, which are fish that are farmed and domestically developed, they do not exist in the wild in this form. They have been raised and fully acclimated to this type of habitat. The wild species of Bettas need bigger tanks than a 10 gallon. Thats like comparing dogs to wolves.

Also is i used to buy a heater for my tank its a tube like and it just burst. i only set it to umm 8 degress and it gotten hotter and hotter till it burst.. But atleast my betta is not injured cuz he was in a cup before i tested the heater
NavyTrix
NavyTrix - 7 years ago
TurtleDude 48 Well it is already summer in my country.. My betta tank is on 2nd floor of my house which is the warmest place at home.. I don't really know how much farenheit is here today but my betta tank's water is kinda warm.. Not to hot and to cold.. Sorry if i do not know on how much farenheit is here..
Pile Of Crap
Pile Of Crap - 7 years ago
That's perfectly fine. Just how warm is it where you live? bettas should have a constant temperature of 25.5° to 26.5 C or 78° and 80° Fahrenheit (its advised you could go slightly higher or lower)and it should never drop below 23.5 C. Just to make sure you know what the nitrogen cycle is, right?

Pile Of Crap
Pile Of Crap - 7 years ago
nothing is actually wrong with them. they're actually giving you proper information on how to care and keep your betta happy. what your doing is like comparing a boulder with a hole in it with another boulder with a bigger hole in it. OF course its better. but your betta isnt going to be thriving.
Paris Jean
Paris Jean - 7 years ago
Mr. Purple you are right. Bettas should not live in cups. But if you can keep a 1 gallon at the right temperature and keep it stable while still having a filter with a small flow and a safe heater it's alright. I don't do it anymore all my bettas are in proper tank sizes but I would never hate on someone who does. I hate myself for doing this to my bettas but I have since changed. Thanks you for the concern
Mr. Purple
Mr. Purple - 7 years ago
MJ Savage I disagree, extremely. Bettas will not and cannot thrive in a 1 gallon tank. They are unstable, hard to properly heat and filter, generally do not have enough space. A little cup is only temporary, if you can't afford at least a 2.5 gallon as a long term home, you should not be getting a betta.

Females can live in a sorority, meaning multiple females can live together in peace.

Your bettas are going to love the new tanks! You should be very proud of what you are doing and don't listen to anyone who continues to make negative remarks. It takes time to make improvements and you are trying, which is what counts! I am more bothered by those who keep bettas and don't even try to research what they need or do any better by them. I do agree with another commenter that mentioned apple snails needing a bigger tank. I have Nerite snails in 2 of my tanks (6 gallon and 10 gallon divided) and to be completely honest I likely wouldn't even put them in a 2.5 gallon, not that you can't, but be aware that they poop a ton! I find that I have to clean the tank so much more often because I can't stand seeing the poop. Its entirely your choice but I wish I would've researched more before getting one.

This is a great video! You've done a wonderful thing for your Betta. Apple/mystery snails ideally need a bigger tank than a 2.5 gallon. They produce a LOT of waste which would cause ammonia. Also if you Betta is on the more aggressive side he would attack an Apple snail as they get quite big. If your Betta is not too aggressive a horned nerite snail would possibly be a better choice. I have them most my Betta tanks. They sell them at Petsmart. They are smaller and your Betta probably wouldn't even notice it! Your Betta looks so happy in his new tank.

I'm so glad you know how to take care of a betta because whenever I go to the pet store to get a betta I heard someone say "these are the fish that don't need a filter or a heater" and I always get SO frustrated especially because they are SO cheap sometimes so some really dumb people could possibly get a betta and keep it in the little cups they come in also a lot of people don't know that they fight each other if you put them together so they might do that :(

Puppypop 101 - 8 years ago
+ParisJean I have heard that if you put two in the same tank they reproduce by laying their eggs above the surface of the water and if they fall into the water the baby's will drown so I separated mine just in case they were going to since they have like 100 babys. I also have heard newit ( I think that's how you spell it? I'll look it up soon ) don't reproduce in fresh water and they are really pretty too!

Puppypop 101 - 8 years ago
+ParisJean I have apple snails but they are normally marked as mystery snails at pet shops! I feed them zucchini because it has calcium and it's good for them and I put some of my birds cuddled bone in the water because it has lots of calcium that they need for their shells, I hope that helped if your thinking of getting some! You can ask me more questions about them too if you need I did a LOT of research on them!

sorry about all of these replies, but I'm commenting as I watch. Snails reproduce like crazy. An apple snail might be two big for a 2.5 gallon. I don't know though. I don't keep snails, just shrimp and fish. Also, learn the drip acclimation method. Bettas are pretty good with water shock, but every other fish needs to be acclimated slowly. Example, don't toss a guppy into a brand new 10 gallon tank.
1) It needs to cycle
2) The fish needs to get used to the water temperature and parameters.
I've lost 2 guppies due to "shimmies." Basically the difference in water shocks them. Water changes don't shock fish as much as brand new fish because:
1) You aren't changing all of the water
2) The water hardness should be the same since it's the same water source. Different towns have different water parameters.
