This is not an aquarium, this is a jail cell !!! Seriously, stop advertising flower vases as betta tanks ! This is just plain animal abuse ! Just because a wild betta fish is capable to survive in a water puddle for some days doesn't mean they should live in a glass of water for the rest of their lives !! We too can survive in a 5 square meters cell, however it doesn't mean that's the best for us !

the only thing this little jar is good for is a couple of snails, two or three cherry shrimp and a plant.
J. Josue
J. Josue - 7 years ago
This is not a fish tank..nonsense. A betta fish needs a bare minimum of 2.5 gallons to live a healthy life, anything less is bare survival. In nature, Bettas can remain in a small area of water until they a. jump out and find a deeper pool, or b. the rains return and refill their creeks. Bettas usually have territories of about 3 feet wide in the wild. They defend their territory, and only when things get rough are they forced to temporally survive in tiny areas of water, but that is only until it rains, or they can escape to a deeper and wider area of water. It is unnatural to force Bettas to live in tiny compartments of water for their whole lives.

If you plan on keeping a betta in one of these tiny tubes, make sure it's a plastic fish instead of a real one. Bettas need a minimum of 2 1/2 gallons of tank size. Anything smaller is neglect.

The fish should ENJOY this "tank"?? This is a pure horror-show. Its cruelty done to a living beeing. This video belongs into former times, when peope didnt notice that animals have feelings, too. Maybe you are not aware, but this is not ok for the fish. My betta has 180 Liters to swim and he uses ALL of this space. ...Looking unter the wood, swimming through the plants.

These people must be smoking crack. IDEAL?? Are you serious?? As the comments here state, and are VERY true, betta fish NEED a heater, and at a bare min 2.5 gallons! ALL fish need biological filtration! If you don't want to clean, or do very simple water changes, than don't have a fish. It's just that simple.

This will not be a game changer. Filters and water changes are gonna stick around as long as the fish hobby stays alive. This only works for small tanks. Imagine trying to do this with something like a 200 gallon tank. So before you guys do anything else just scrap the whole no clean tank idea NOW!

That's absolutely terrible what if you were in a small room with little to no space for walking and you just had to go in circles that wouldn't be so fun right? Danielle Liverance
Danielle Liverance - 7 years ago
If anyone has done their research they will know that small tanks are NOT good for a betta. A betta is typically a curious fish and loves to swim around. A small tank stresses the betta out. The best thing to do is go out and get 3-10 gallon fish tank for your betta. I have a tetra 3 gallon half moon, before I had my 3 gallon I had a 2.5 litre betta fish tank. My poor betta was so stressed out his colour became dark. Almost black (he is a blue betta) once I moved him into the 3 gallon fish tank he turned back into his royal blue self. I advise anyone looking for a betta tank to just go out and buy a bigger fish tank instead of a betta fish tank.

Not only is this tank too small (Bettas do best in a minimum of 2.5 gallon tank), but on top of being small and narrow, the water change system can stress out the fish due to the water flow. Betta fish don't like a lot of water flow, and seeing that this tank doesn't use a proper filtration system, you will have to change the water about once every 1-2 days (keep in mind the stress).

Yeah, I'm pretty sure fish also hate living in tiny unheated, unfiltered jars. Plus, if you had a proper-sized aquarium you wouldn't have to chase your betta with a net to clean the tank. I keep my betta in a 10 gallon heated and filtered tank and the only time he's ever touched a net was when I first brought him home.

No, just.. NO! That's not an acquarium, that's a pitcher! You can't force a poor fish to live in a fucking pitcher. Fishes are not home decors, fishes are living being and deserve respect.
They have specific needs and habits. If you don't have enough space, money or patience then don't buy a life. This fish is a Betta fish and (like every specie of fishes) needs specific water values, a specific temperature and more space than this.

nellz72 - 7 years ago
First off, like many others have said, this tank is WAY to small for a Betta. Just because they can survive in a small environment, doesn't mean they should. And secondly, every time you do this "cleaning" process, you are flushing out the entire bio bed that aquarium water, (or any body of water) needs to be healthy. That is why, when you go to clean an aquarium, you should never remove more than 20% of the water, and never vacuum 100% of the stuff that is on the bottom. Aquariums build a layer on the bottom of the tank, usually referred to as a bio base, that is a balance of nitrates/nitrites that help your water remain healthy. Without that, you end up with fouled, cloudy water, that is unhealthy for your fish, and unpleasant to look at. This thing is nothing more than another bullsh*t gimmick, that people that probably shouldn't have fish, or any other animal for that matter, will buy.

Shit product. A simple overflow is not anything unique. I could literally do thisby drilling a hole in the side of a jar. Not to mention that this tank is a miserable environment for a betta. Seriously, people who don't know anything about fish shouldn't claim to make an "ideal tank."

I get so pissed when I see pet shops with their bettas in those TINY plastic containers (Wal Mart is THE WORST). Then the BS, "They don't need a lot of space to move." Really? They live in rice patties, where there are streams/water ways that they travel for miles through. Tell me how much they don't like space? One place, strictly fish, had all their female bettas in a tank, with other fish!! My husband and I had our worlds cracked open in the best way possible. Bought 3 of them and put them in our ten gallon community tank. They got along just fine with our guppies, cherry barbs, clown pleco and banjo cat. Two of the bettas passed (we think the more dominant female killed them), the few guppies we had died because we had them for 10 plus years, and 2 out of our 3 cherry barbs (had them for 10 plus years too). We recently we restocked the bettas. We were told from someone at our local pet shop (they are on a betta community site online) female bettas need to be in larger groups, at least 4 to 5 to not fight/kill each other. We also have a Purple Spotted Gudgeon we got for free from another pet shop (they were competing with a new petco across the street from them) also in the tank. The bettas all have their own spots. We bought one of those floating logs that was advertised for bettas as well as a leaf that is suctioned to the side of the tank near the top. They use the log more than the leaf. All I know is we have fallen in love with bettas. The females are as beautiful as the males. They all enjoy swimming all over the tank and hiding. They vary from swimming and resting at the top portion of the tank to hiding in mini "carved out" stone houses that we bought, to under the real log we have in there. They like to hide/rest in the real plants as well. I couldn't imagine sticking them in a small container. At least the pet shop we frequently go to have this bubbler system attached to the top of all the bettas. I hope we are teaching our local pet shop about these very misunderstood fish when we share our stories and experiences of our bettas with them. We also have a bumblebee catfish in this tank and a few snails. We have a double filtration system for all of our tanks, including this 10 gallon community tank. It's fully stocked, perhaps a few fish too many (1 fish/gallon, 9 fish (most very small) in a 10 gallon). All have hiding places and plenty of room to swim. We have 4 tanks total and are obsessed with fish in general. Cichlids, catfish, plecos, bettas, feeder fish, oh my! FREE THE BETTAS FROM THESE PRISONS!!!

This is sick and cruel to keep a fish, that in the wild would swim miles a day. In a tank of that size. Not to mention that for a betta you would need a gentle fliter and a heater. Bettas should be kept in tanks that are at least 2.5 gallons. plus if you to lazy to clean a fish tank properly you should not own one or, promote your product. It is horrible! Betta fish are low waste animals but even in low amounts there waste is extremely toxic to them. And, in a tank of that size you should be doing a 25% to 30% water change everyday. I think that before you adopt any animal you should be doing a good amount of research and really care about their well being. And, you do not.
Catherine Murphy
Catherine Murphy - 7 years ago
NO NO NO!! This is a cool idea, but this should not be a tank for fish. It is far to small, and puts stress on the aquatic life inside when pouring in the new water! Also, if you want this to be a product that is actually a home for fish, make that a three gallon tank that is horizontal with the same physics and litter water dispenser.

This product is terrible. I bought it to keep a little common fish (not betta and smaller than the Betta) and still wasn't enough space. Way too small, the "Self-cleaning" was a lie. All it does is move the water out, but the actual waste and such that cause the ammonia and nitrate levels to rise to a very unsafe level ended up being trapped inside still. Don't waste your money on this please, and get a proper tank. Fish ARE NOT decorations. I'm sick of people not taking care of fish properly. Its not that hard to care for these fish, just put the effort and you will get some amazing fish.

This is a good idea but not good for bettas and other fish. 1: it is two small, they need at least 2.5 gallons. 2: bettas breath air from the surface of the water but they are not so good swimmers, so they need a tank that is longer than it is tall.3: they also need a good hiding spot so they at home as if they where able to hide from there enemies. So if that is not enough to convince you that this is a bad tank you should not have fish.

Waaaay too small. And no heater. Betta needs warm water so unless you live in a tropical country you need a heater for the cold months. This tanks is so small that there isn't even room for a heater, heck the fish hardly can turn around.
Do not buy this. Buy a tank that is at least 2,5 gallons. I have two around 3 gallons tanks with heaters and filtration. Bigger tanks also give more room for some pretty decorations. I have different themes on each of my tanks so they are good for the betta and pretty for us humans to look at as well. Also this tank has a ridiculous price. Seriously this tiny little jar costs more than my TWO 3 gallons tanks and heaters combined...

This is terrible idea
山本ヨーヨー
山本ヨーヨー - 8 years ago
lol this implies that the only thing the filter does is keep the tank clean when actually what it's really doing is providing a home for beneficial bacteria to naturally get rid of ammonia, turning it into nitrite and then into nitrates, which are removed and diluted through water changes weekly
Ammonia and nitrates are toxic in small amounts, nitrates are not

It's also small and there's no heater

Keeping a betta in something this small is stupid, research how to care for fish before blindly spending $70 because you think it's easy and cool looking

Stress free? where's the heater and filter? Betta are tropical fish and need a minimum of 2.5G. These ''tanks'' are vile, how you can say its stress free when the poor fish was fighting for its life when the water was just poured in causing a massive vortex current is beyond me.

Small tanks are bad for bettas fish. Bettas fish do NOT live in puddles! They live in shallow water but it is very long and wide.
Oceanti
Oceanti - 8 years ago
Its a good idea but its a little bit small. Some bettas get stressed in huge tanks so it depends on the fish. And there isn't much room for a heater. This would be good for fry because you wouldn't have to worry about sucking them up you just have to make sure they can't get sucked up the tube. And if they do they are put into a cup. A king bettas couldn't go in this but a small bettas that doesn't get stressed in small tanks would probably like this. But really its better to just get a filter and a bigger tank.
Trash Bin
Trash Bin - 8 years ago
Honestly if you are lazy to even clean their aquarium then you should probably not even own fish or any aquatic animals whatsoever... I highly suggest pet grass since you can keep a lots of them or the popular pet rock, or if you want a challenge a brick since they're known to break peoples thick skulls.

If you A.) put your fish in that tiny ass tank, B.) fill up all of their swimming room with plants, C.) put your fish in a tank with a small surface area with no air stone, no filter, and no heater, and D.) think that its okay to put a betta fish (that have EXTREMELY delicate fins) into a net, then you deserve to be put in a tiny box with one small air hole, and set out in the snow. That way you can die an inevitable premature and very uncomfortable death. Just like you're doing to those fish. Fuck you and fuck your shitty ass tank. I hope you go bankrupt because of this product.

this is not an aquarium. I do have a betta in a glass drink container thing, but its one thats as big as a bucket, and is over 5 gallons. water change? just distract him with food and turn on the tap at the bottom and water is sucked up. fuck you for your little tank. betta need filtration and a heater, and you have neither. imo this is worse than pet store cups, the LFS that i frequent does daily water changes to keep up with ammonia spikes and such.

Words I hate hearing in the same sentence: fish + low maintenance, aquarium + no-clean. This tank is HORRIBLE. I could rant about everything wrong with this tank. D Lee
D Lee - 7 years ago
Actually, as long as the pebbles stay in place and one keeps up with the water change, it should be ok with water quality. The pebbles act as substrate for the beneficial bacteria to attach to without being flushed away. The waste need to be flushed away, though. This system is not ideal in that it will take lots of water to keep water clean over time compared to dedicated water filter.
nellz72
nellz72 - 7 years ago
It's a horrible idea! Every time you "clean" this thing, you are flushing away your entire bio base that the aquarium needs to be healthy. It's awful!

knittingkitten

wow, people are lazy. I only change my tanks 25%-50% once per week, and that isn't very time consuming. Bettas are probably the easiest fish to keep in terms of maintenance and hardiness. In fact, the most time consuming part for me is simply matching the temperature of the water to the tank, which is something you'll still need to do with this tank.

Great... now you just need to invent a vase big enough to actually house a fish. This is a horrible invention.

"This is a ideal tank for a Betta fish or a fighting fish" - No it's not. Not only is it way too small, Betta fish are tropical fish that needs heating. This is a Guantanamo-style holding pen, not an ideal tank.

Filters aren't an option. They're a necessity. All fish need them. And this tank is far too small to house a Betta. They're active and playful fish if given the proper tank. And, Bettas are tropical fish and require a heater. This "no-maintenance tank" sucks! I have a 20 gallon tank and usually spend about 30-1 hour in cleaning one a week. But it's worth it for my fish. This is NOT the "ideal" tank for a Betta fish. A well-planted 10 gallon with a filter, heater, and weekly water changes perhaps but certainly not this.

Gordon Peace - 8 years ago
On a rule of thumb for a fish no more then 2 inches they should have 1.5 gallons of water min. i use a small 1 gallon tank for only newborn fish such as mollies guppies and others for a few weeks to increase there size so the main tank filtration systems do not suck them up.
reminder folks a male beta can be put into a tank with other fish as long as you do not put them in with other male beta.
Mesozoquatic
Mesozoquatic - 8 years ago
1:32 The ideal tank for a betta is a 10 gallon or large aquarium with a heater, sponge filter, and live plants. Yes, bettas are easy to care for, but that does not mean you can put them in just any tank. Any pet is going to require work and changing that much water at one time is bad for the tank chemistry. Only 5-20% of a tanks volume should be changed at a time (except under certain conditions), with smaller tanks needing smaller percentage changes.
Wernbread
Wernbread - 8 years ago
How do you dechlorinize the tank or well cup because if you have water that already has dechlor and replace it with tap water tap water has chlorine which is bad for the fish so do you just put the dechlor in right away? Or before pouring it? If so its a waste of dechlor because you're using it on such a little amount
Rex K
Rex K - 8 years ago
The water has to be free of chlorine and of the same or similar water temperature.
Rex K
Rex K - 8 years ago
That's a great innovation. I just wish they'd make a bigger version of the container, like a 3 or 5 gallon. Bettas deserve a bigger tank than a jar like that.

Bettas need at least 2.5 gallons. The logic of "One Betta doesn't need a lot of room" is completely untrue. In the wild betta live in mile long rice paddies as well as in tropical conditions. Each Betta requires the bare minimum of at least 2.5 gallons, a heater to at least 80 degrees and proper filtration. Anything less is nearly surviving for a betta, not thriving. If you cannot and refuse to properly care for a fish, don't get one.
Alexis Wilson

I wouldn't recommend any thing past a 5 gallon, if you actually want to see your fish and nothing smaller than a 2.5, my opinion, also, you Need a filter that doesn't agitates the water surface because, you see, betta is a species that don't like to swim much, I know they will, but, (my betta in a 3 gal) doesn't swim much and seems to be healthy. Also, you need a heater because they are from tropical climates like thailand, and you can also feed them a variety of live things, they are carnivorous, such as wingless fruitless and daphnja! these fish are living, breathing art, that are things too, so please take care of them..

"Fish hate being chased around by a net", well, fish hate being forced to live in such a small environment. At least being chased by a net is momentary, Living in there (to those who are buying it), is forever, and is a horrid way to live for any fish. Even Betta fish.
