@Blinkdelete lol no plakats males can have shorter tail ;p so unless they're long finned types...plakats are a lot more difficult to tell at times but you check for the pectoral fins, ovi(egg spot), and anal fin which in my opinion is a lot more rectangular if they're plakat females

Water temp for Betas should be mid-to high 80's. That's their natural temp in the natural habitat. I've found this to be very helpful with tanked Betas.

did he say 70 - 72 degree's fahrenheit?? its a tropical fish you amateur, they breed in 80 degree F water temperature. watch my videos, i've actually successfully bred bettas and 70 - 72 is way to cold.

@pinkjack1994 that's a good question because the smaller females could need more time to condition, mature, develop eggs etc. Is her white ovipositor showing? They will only mate under right conditions. Otherwise his being a big dude should be fine.

i have put my betta in the tank together but befor i did that i had them in seprate tanks right next to each other then i put the female in the male start chasing her and and flaring his gills he has a bubble nest setup and also there different betta the female is a crowntail and the male is a regular betta u buy at the pet store ..so what do i do to succesfully breed them

This is crap, this is a bad video of how to breed betta fish, he can't even say betta right. I hope not all americans are as silly as this. You need to do alot more to prevent the bettas killing each other and encourage less aggression. Stick two in there and one will most likely kill or injure the other. Bloody idiot...

I have a 10 gal filter on a 5 gal tank and lots of plants for the female to hide in, I put a screed divider between my male and female for about 1 week. They are still divided but he is not making a bubble nest. they definitely see each other because if she swims toward the screen he will show off in a non-aggressive way. what am i doing wrong? I am wondering if there is to much current from the filter or if the water is to cold (its just room temp) can you help me?

um...long enough? as i said, there is no specific time frame. Release them when they're ready. If the female is full of eggs, you can immediately put them together. Chances are, the female will be chased and beat up pretty good, but eventually, they will mate.

And If you want to minimize injury to the female, then wait until the male has finished building the bubble nest and flirts with the female. If the female is also ready, she will show interest in the male and will have dark vertical bans on her body. ps. they must be able to see each other of course

When the female is fat and full of eggs, you can put them together. Note that fish stores tend to sell females before they're even mature. Wait until the female is fatter than the male before attempting to mate them.

Unless you have rogue male, it's best to leave him with the fries until they're all free swimming (4 days after hatching). The male betta helps with any fallen fry as Eigeroo said. You can feed the male occasionally, just becareful not to disturb the nest. And when its time, remove the male with your hand, not with a net.

mature female bettas will have a white dot between its ventral fin. male bettas will have longer/bigger ventral fin and slightly longer and fancier anal fin. Males also have bigger wider mouths (for fighting).

make sure the female betta is really a female betta. Some short-fin males can be mistaken as females. And also, make sure the female is fat and full of eggs before putting them together.

that is why you leave the male betta in with the eggs. It's his job to collect any fallen egg and spit it into the bubble nest. Eggs that are submerged will not get enough oxygen.

I "breed" Bettas for over a year. My girls beat up my boys or my boys wouldn't make nests. After watching this I might get interested in trying again. I love the beautiful colors and waiting to see what the fry grow into. I always wondered what happens to all the girls. Every store would have boys but no girls. I know in my goats boys are what is usually sold for meat as girls are kept for breeding.

The BEST MINIMUM Temperature for bettas is 80 degrees Fahrenheit...Angels about 78...Even when inside temp. of 75 degrees...bettas will die...

I don't use a heater and my tank is usually at 75 and they are fine, but the babies need it to be warmer, and also need a lid on the tank to keep the air warm in because they can get sick from breathing in cold air. Also the female is more likely to breed in warmer water.

I'm no expert but I would think if it's making a bubble nest then yes it is a male. You can always google female and male betta images to help you determine. The bubble nest are made by the males for a place for the females eggs to go during their breeding cycle.

I have breeded male and female bettas, and I got fry but I could not find the food that they needed anywhere. And I even went on searching through all of the Pet stores. This was 6 years ago. Also Male bettas do make bubbles out of boredom, and after the male and female breed their finage falls but then it grows back

when I was younger I breed my betta. I was following directions which also told me to take the dad out after 48 hours and ALL of my baby fish died. I had counted around 70 too. One thing I noticed is that it seemed like the fry were eating or trying to eat whatever food the dad spit out.

if you cycle a tank and then leave it for two weeks, the nitrifying bacteria will starve to death and you'll have to re-cycle your tank's biological filtration media.

Like in your betta care video, the temperature is very off (a pet betta should be in water of 74-79 degrees to keep its immune system in good order to prevent illness and to keep it from being lethargic). 79-82F is actually best for breeding- it encourages spawning because the fish sense that it is a good time or season, and environment to do so. The fry will also mature faster in higher temperatures. Still, fairly good vid. :)
