Puffer Tank LEAK! Modded for a New Betta Fish 101 1

My amazon puffer tank leaked so I took it apart, scraped off all of the silicone, and cut the glass to make it a lower profile tank for a betta. It's a low iron glass tank and it's already heavily modded, so I didn't want to throw it away. He is a fancy plakat betta. According to the breeder, he is around 3 months old. The plant is Whorled Pennywort (Hydrocotyle verticillata). I bought a pot full of it for a very cheap price at a gardening store. If you buy it through an aquarium plant seller, it might cost more. The plant soil is amazon plant soil capped with sand. This is a low co2 plant, and it is very hardy so it shouldn't die. So far, a couple of leaves yellowed and melted, but at the same time new growth are emerging. There are more new growths than the few that yellowed. This is expected b/c the plants are going through an adaptation to a fully submerged state. My betta Geronimo uses the plants as his sleeping bed.

the tank is already setup and the sump is against the wall, so it's really difficult to film it. sorry. I used 5mm black acrylic panel for the back.

local gardening store where they've got glass vase and containers section. it's just a square glass container with no holes.

puffer tank was around 15gal. now it's around 9 gal. 30cmX24cmX50cm or 11in X 9.4in X 20inches - WxHxL

Dumbo is hard to swim around fast. So you need to make sure the water flow out from filter is gentle and not disturb so much around the top area. After all, betta prefer to hanging around at the top. If the water current to strong they might just laying low at the bottom. Other than that, its pretty much like other betta.

no, I was just asking. I've never kept a dumbo before either. it seems like bettas use their pectoral fin the most to swim around and only use their back fin when they want a boost. so I wondered since dumbo's pectoral fin gets very big, if they have harder time swimming around than a betta with a regular sized pectoral fin. maybe they swim fine, I don't know. my plakat definitely swims faster than my last betta.

dumbos are cool looking, but I kinda wondered if they can swim ok. have you kept one before? I always wanted to get a plakat b/c I thought they swim faster than other big finned bettas.

great video. sorry for what have happened to you. it was probably pretty stressful. i like your bare bottom style, i have also rejected the gravel paradigm and have all my tanks bare bottom. also, great looking betta, plakats are my favorite. especially koi plakat.

thanks. It was the first tank leak I've ever experienced. yea, this is my first plakat, he's quite different than regular bettas. He's pretty cool. yea, gravel always gave me more trouble than bare bottom. bare bottom is much easier to deal with.
