I have heard if you turn the lights off for a few hours say in the afternoon the algae doesn't like it, it prefers constant light as you say boss this just a second opinion!

Hey ifg ! Big fan . quick question . i am considering doing one of those 3 d foam backgrounds like the one behind u. But worried about using glass glue. Does that stay on forever ? If i want to change backgrounds will that glue remain behind? Do you have a video on this type of thing? Thanks.

+mike mcguinness depends on wether or not your aquarium is glass or acrylic. For acrylic tanks you will need to use an extra strength silicone like GE silicone 1. Make sure not to use the mold resistant formula as it will affect your beneficial bacteria

Turn your light off and put the tank in the dark for around three days. You'll kill ALL THE ALGAE with the darkness. Algae thrives on 3 things... Water, Nitrates, & UV LIGHT. Remove ONE of those & Algae CANNOT grow. Next ,change your tank bulb to one that does not emits UV light. I don't see any plants in there, so WHY use a "Growlight" bulb? Last, keep your tank out of a room that has a lot of natural sunlight. Guess where it's getting exposed to UV light?

I keep my light on 2-3 hours per day. Other than that, it's indirect sunlight lighting up their tank.

my tanks are 13 on 11 off i don't have a algae problem because i have a proper habitat with plants and algae eaters poo eaters and upper mid and lower water column feeders in a community tank

also light is not bad for your fish as long as its not direct how long is the sun in the sky every day more then 12 as long as you have shady hangovers for your fish the light don't matter

also the algae is more of a sine of a lot of protein on the water then it is light as that algae is the same one used in a UGF and it can live without light also the algae is not a problem it just looks bad

also as long as their is a window in the room with your tank their is enough sunlight for algae to grow even with tank lights off 24/7

When I was on vacation a few weeks ago I had a timer malfunction and my lights stayed on for over 100 hours straight (I was gone 5 days). I came back and there was so much algae I couldn't believe it. Not to mention my fish looked horrible. Fortunately everything is back to normal.

My fluval timer for my led on my small tank stayed on after being reset during I'm assuming a power outage while I was on a one week vacation. My whole tank is covered in algae and my prefilter was completely plugged with diatoms.

The only reason why I would leave the lights on in my planted tank would be for the oto catfish. Oto catfish need the algea to thrive!

Can you not just take them out and bleach them? 30 seconds and they are spotless, a bit of seachem safe and they aee bleach free.
