If you need to disinfect a tank or decorations you can use boiling water or very very watered down pure bleach. Thats what i did for mine and rinsed it out a bunch of times and all three of my snails and betta fish are fine. Scented soap is what's really dangerous to fish. Things like dawn are OK, sparingly (like a drop) and rinsed a bunch.

Also. Bettas need heavily planted tanks. They live in rice fields in Malaysia and Thailand so you kinda need to simulate that when setting up your tank. They're also not that good of swimmers so a longer thank rather than a taller tank is much better for them as they come to the surface to "gulp air" and then go back down. As a betta fish ages it will be harder and harder for them to get to the surface.

you may want to cover it with something otherwise things may get stuck in the filter. The long piece(if I'm thinking of the right thing) is where the water comes in, so your fish could actually get sucked into the filter too

Ashlelya TFM blood worms are a good way to try getting them to eat again. if the fish is bloated or anything like that you can also try the inside of a frozen pea

The filters will say to buy new ones and replace them, but I think they just want money. It's best to keep and use the same one because it contains beneficial bacteria

oh my god it does sound like that haha no if I did I would've cut that part out, but it was probably the yoga mat making a sound with the tank or my knee making a noise as it moved back when I was trying to lift the tank

I have a 2.5 gal
Same gravel except blue
4 plants one green one orange one purple and last one is a mix of all of the colors
A multi colored cave thing like yours but smaller
And my fish are a male royal blue Betta and a small plecko

You actually are able to use soap to clean tanks. You need to make sure you rinse it all off lol and also when you put in conditioner it double checks behind you in a sense and makes sure the chemicals are gone.

I just purchased my first ever betta yesterday! He is currently in a 1 gallon tank but I'm heading out in a few minutes to find him a 5 or more gallon tank! I'm also purchasing a heater and filter!
I'm really excited to give my betta a good life unlike them dying in little cups or bowls!

He is still looking healthy and happy! I ended up purchasing him a 3.5 gallon, but he is very happy and likes to follow me around, my niece is in love with him and yells to see him as soon as she gets to my house! It's been a good experience:)

Your poor Betta..

Where does a Betta swim in real nature? Rice fields, marsh and bog woodland, ponds, puddles and flooded meadows.

So give him this environment. Take atleast a 5-8 gallon (20-30l) tank and A LOT of herbage plants. Actually enough to cover the most of the light from the fish tank.

Also: never use white or other bright stones, gravel and decoration. Why? The Betta Splendens is a fish used to live in dark waters, having nothing but pale light on the ground.

What the most of the people out there forget: the Betta is a labyrinth fish. So he actually has an organ to breath normal air. That means you need to make sure, that the air above the water has the same temperature like the water. Having this in mind, all tanks without a real cover will not work in environments, where the outside temperature is lower. (e.g. most of the new nano cases without covers will fail). Watch your Betta in the night: without light, the plants will absorb O² instead of producing it. At this time, your Betta will breathe normal air.

For the feeding: Betta are pure carnivores. Keep that in mind and feed them this way. Just giving them vegetarian food will not give them what they need.
Also, dont feed too much of those tubifex worms, they will cause the organs of your betta to become too fat.

All of this said: the Betta is a fish that can survive a lot, but keep in mind that your fish should not only survive but live in a good condition.

+Christian Pohl I agree, after this video I got way more plants, and my tanks have quite a few plants now:) I feed New life spectrum to my bettas. I don't do super bright decorations anymore and use black or natural gravel. I know where bettas come from, when I first got her, I didn't know a while lot about tank set up, but I knew the filter and then got heater. This was me doing better than what I did a year before this, keeping my fish in bowls. I also have hoods for my tank now:)

You should never ever fill a tank then movie it!!!! that is so bad for the tank!! you put it where you want then fill it! I undertsnd you wanted a fish but if you ant even get the filter to work you should re think that! you should at least know what your doing before you get something like that even if it is 'just a fish' their still living creatures, you and your mom should have done way more research before getting the fish...

+Chris Howard Excuse me? Okay I didn't know how to get the filter to work, so what even when I got another filter for my other tank it worked differently. I was just confused by this one because we poured water in the spillway, but it wouldn't start. I know that I shouldnt move it when it's full because it can shatter, I just wasn't thinking. When you research betta fish not EVERY SINGLE CARE FACT comes up! Just because I struggled with figuring out a filter for my first time doesn't mean I didn't know how to care for my fish. I got more plants after this and a heater it just wasn't in this video. I did my research. It's been a year since then and I've learned a lot from experience. I always put it where I want then fill it now, please don't make assumptions of one video of mine. Maybe go watch some of my new ones that aren't a year old? I NEVER FREAKING CALLED IT JUST A FISH!!! I love all of my fish very much. I'm vegan you think I don't care about living creatures? You didn't know I was vegan just like you didn't know that I didn't do my research. At least I didn't shove the fish in a bowl. What makes you think I didn't do research. Your comment was rude and inconsiderate. Don't be so quick to judge people.

I have two questions...

1. How do you arrange plastic plants and such in an aquarium? Is it safe to use your hands?

2. How much will it hurt a fish to only cycle the water for an hour or so? I have no capability to cycle it any longer, and wanted to know how much it would hurt a hardy beta.

did the fish die? because by the looks of it it doesnt seem like you cycled the tank. thats where most new people who get fish go wrong. be careful of that! look up the nitrogen cycle for everyone who is setting up a new tank and thinks they can just put a fish in! its not that simple.

yep, thats how my first aquarium failed. didnt cycle, never did water changes, they all died from ammonia poisoning and disease before i even knew what was happening. i was young though so eh- at least i learned :)

Dude it was a one time thing and obviously I couldn't even pick it up. It didn't break either. I wasn't gonna waste all that water to empty it and refill it. The glass is still fine today too.
