a few things about this video.
1. bettas need AT LEAST 2.5 gallons NO smaller!
2. the fish food you showed dor pellets is crap. Aqeon or however you spell it doesnt care about what they put in their fish food and they put all sorts of random crap.

I've had betas for years and have always had bowls? most have lived pretty long too. I'm taking my 4 daughter to get her 1st fish, a beta this week. Bad recommendation of food, the ingredients in agueon pellet food is junk that's the food I started out with when I owned my first beta it has glutton meal and the un natural form of the sea food if you want your beta to be happy and healthy I recommend using omega one it has great ingredients whole seafood and not a single source of unhealthy glutton meal that can clog up your betas digestive track it contains whole shrimp whole salmon halibut whole hearing and natural glutton the comes straight from the plant next time makeup012z please do your research before giving false information

ss4goku34 I barely feed mine, and it has lived for around a year and a half, I usually give it twice a week, since Bettas are known for being able to go long periods (1 week) without food. so I don't feed it as often, as a year back, I fed it too often and it got bloated, I fed it less and that solved the problem.

Please also make sure to acclimate your fish properly and make sure that your tank is cycled (or that you use quick start) BEFORE adding your fish. It'll prevent new tank syndrome and the untimely loss of your new baby.

Lori Drouillard all I have is a simple bowl, with some red gravel along with some golden pothos, the golden pothos use the Betta's waste as a natural nutrient/fertilizer, keeping the bowl relatively safe & clean for the beta, I do 100% water changes, at first, the beta becomes inactive, but after a day, the golden pothos clear the chlorine and the betta then is back to normal, mine is still living, had him for a year and a half

I just got a Betta fish. He is such an awesome guy. I wasn't expecting a fish to be cool and I really got him for my 4 year old. Anyway, I am new to this.

I only have him in a 2.5 gallon for now which he is actually doing really well in and seems happy. He made a bubble nest and swims in the silk plants I got him.

Anyway, two questions:
1. Can I cycle the water for a 2.5 gallon tank or should I just do a full water change weekly? I really want this fish to live a long time, he is really cool.

Also, I have conditioner and quick start in there both by API.

2. He seems perfectly fine in the 2.5 gallon, he's really curious and healthy looking.
It more so seems to bother me because the tank just looks small to me. What is your advice?

I have ask this from different videos but I want your opinion or somebody else's. I have a babyish female betta fish named lavender. She lives in a 1 gallon pitcher. Trust me it's a pretty big pitcher. But idk if I should at least get a medium bowl for her. I mean for now it kinda looks good and she seems happy. It's not my first time raising a betta fish. I have raised two male at the same time. There bowls where a little smaller but they seemed very happy. I'm hoping you can answer my question if I should get a good starter bowl/tank or keep her in this large pitcher. (Plz don't judge me for keeping her in a pitcher...

Ok so this is an amazing video! It's actually really helpful. THANK YOU. also many ppl who are new to this will be helped. But actually the photo for fin loss or fin rot is not a sick Betta. It looks a bit like it but fin loss actually looks more like the fish has shredded fins. The picture is a crown tail Betta with no fin loss. Their fins are naturally like that

+fernanda pinon The best temperature to keep your betta in is around 70-80 degrees F. Any colder and your betta will start to slow down, have duller colors, and it's not very healthy for your fish. I had the same problem as you. One thing that you absolutely must do to keep a betta in a cold climate is a heater according to the size of your tank. (2.5 - 5 gallon tanks should have a 7.5 watt heater, anything more should have higher, it's best to do some research on the type of heater you should get according to the size of your tank.) The best thing to do if you're in an emergency situation is get some warm water (it can be from your sink, but make absolutely sure that it is just WARM, not HOT) and use betta water conditioner in a small container to hold your betta. Try to place the betta in a warm room until you can deal with the tank. If it's middle of winter (like it was for me) and room temperature water is waaaay too cold, put your heater in the water, and wait at least a half hour. Keep a tank thermometer in the tank to regulate the temperature, and once it's reached (AT LEAST) 60 degrees, you can put your betta back in. In winter heaters can be tricky to use, and unless you have one that regulates heat itself, you must constantly check on the temperature of the water to make sure your betta doesn't overheat. If the water reaches over 83 degrees it's best to turn off the heater until it gets cooler again, around 65, then you can turn the heater back on.

However, if you're in a situation and you don't already have a heater (like I didn't), order one as soon as possible. In the meantime, try and find ways to keep your betta warm, such as moving them to a warmer room, or even changing the cold water out and exchanging it for warmer water (ALWAYS with betta water conditioner!) often.

eRa Vise actually, if you add an arrangement of golden pothos in the bowl, it will act as a natural filter, as it absorbs the Betta's waste, the chlorine, and keep the pH in check, mine hasn't gotten sick at all, and I've had it since the summer of 2015

the yellow betta has Fin rot, the tank is saltwater and the absolute minimum for a betta is a 2.5g tank with a heater a filter and loads of hiding places, the 1.5 is way too small, I agree with all the bad example tho, they really are horrible things to keep a betta in. The fish in the Fin loss picture has no "Fin loss", it is his tail type, he is just a crown tail.

At 3:07 that isn't fin rot! That's a type of betta called a crowntail, I have one of my own and he is perfectly happy! Plus u can tell that's not obviously fin rot because fin rot is just in random spots of the betta not in certain perfect places.

ok first of all no where did you mention the fact that you can't have 2 bettas together, or that you should be changing the water once a week, You also didn't say that the water should be conditioned and at room temperature. Also, it is better for the bettas and the cleanliness of your tank to use pellets, why would you suggest flakes? People who want to keep Siamese fighting fish they don't like big tanks and they don't like a lot of water movement as they breath air we do and they come from a place called Siam that's how it got its name and they live in small pools or rice paddy and they eat mosquito I feed mine black mosquito blood worm and small cyclops they don't eat flake much and they like a temp around 78 to 82 and a ph of 6.8 and dgh of around 10 I keep some of my males in a Betta barracks there is plenty of room to move about and it's got dividers so you can house 4 males the betta barracks is for showing of your males and when they are ready to breed I take one male out put it in a small tank let him build is nest then I will put a female in a jar so the male can see her then when I see the White egg spot I put her in with him and see how they do and it get a bit rough and the female gets ripped to shreads but that's how they breed I have been doing fish for about 30 years and past exam on aquariology and water chemistry

Hi i keep mine in a 5 gallons tank which is 20 litre i bought and my others are in a 12 litre nano tanks i breed crown tail i just got my self a dumbo siames and a delta tail once i see the male build is nest i put the female in plastic peanut butter jar with two suckers to stick to the glass of the tank so the male cant touch her she will blush she will have stripes running from her dorsel fin to pectoral fins then put her in it will get rough you will feel sorry for the female once she as laid her eggs and he as put his sperm on take take the female out leave the male in a few days when you see young they look like pins hanging down from the nest but use a sponge filter with an air pump and you should be good to go any good luck if you want to know what to feed them just send me a message

Its just me all the books i have been reading all say they dont like big tank and not a lot of water movment i did try to breed them in my big tank with no look so i moved them in to my small tanks and some good look but i lost the young due to my filter being to strong and i did not have a sponge filter then but have one now so i will try again in the summer thats uk summer if we get one lol i have my females in the big tank but my males are in small tanks so they dont get there tails nipped

My pet store buys in bulk i got two small tanks ten lt and cost me £60 pound the came with filter lights heater lid and my light for the big tank as T5 lights it was £400 pounds i got it brand new for £60 and i have a new tank comming that can hold two bettas all with led lights that one brand new £ 55 pound this is uk money

Do you feed your bettas live food or frozen food like mosquito micro worms blood worm that's what mine eat but in the wild they would eat black mosquito found in rice paddies. Please, stop encouraging people to buy these small tanks and artificial plants. You don't wanna live amongst fake stuff either, don't you? I agree that it is totaly ok to keep them in a 30 liter + tank (and not changing the entire tank water each time please) but they still need at least the smallest amount of species appropriate planting which does NOT include artificial plants! Please, get some information before buying a beta (and I am not talking about the information from petco!)

Its very sad that people have the notion that betta like small (under a 1gallon bowl) homes..people say there usto living in small spaces..false! The truth into why they sell them in small bowls is because they are fighting fish and most pet stores dont have the space to house them all in there own tanks so the easiest way is to sell them in those bowls..do some research and find out the truth. Imagine how u would like to live and treat them the same:)

Those are great! You forgot one very important point though - feeding them just 3-4 pellets a day, every second day. Amd a quarter of the pea one day a week. Most common cause of death in bettas is overfeeding. They, like people, know no limits. :)

So much wrong information, bettas require at lest 2.5 gallons. They need filters and a heater. To cure fin rot you need to do daily water changes as it is caused by bad water quality. To cure ich you need to raise the temperature a little higher to about 86, this means the parasites eggs won't hatch to the high water temperature as the parasite won't be able to live in it. Also the picture of the betta with "fin rot" isn't a fish with fin rot it's just a crown tail Betta.

Daily water changes are only necessary when you occur finrot, recommended for just changing water normally is once a week, it is preferred as then the fish don't swim in their own waste and the parameters won't get too high and damage/kill the fish.

Haha, sir you are hilarious, I have been keeping bettas for 10 years, I know what I am doing, if you don't mind but come visit www.myaquariumclub.com and see how your information works on there, most people infact mainly everyone will disagree with you. Turning the heat up will only kill if you exceed 90+ and daily water changes won't hurt the fish, it'll make it healthier as well as changing the water once a week, once a month will let parameters build up too much and will kill the fish like that, and quicker if over fed.

Most of this is wrong. 2.5 gallon is required. They don't need a filter and the betta fish likes to live at around 77-80 degrees Fahrenheit. Daily water changes will kill the fish. There is actually good bacteria that they need to survive. You should change ur water every 1 month but if you start seeing algy before that then leave some of the water in like about a inch and scrub the algy with a side glass scruby thingy.

I don't do it to often.I also don't recommend doing the max of 5 mins.I worded that wrong.when a betta fish flares they use tail muscles that don't get used all that much to spread and lift their tails.domesticated bettas often have huge tails and so by making them flare to lift their tails up will make it easier on the fishes swimming.

Exercise their fins by flaring their gills? :/ I'm afraid I don't quite understand what you mean by that, friend.
But please try to be aware on how much you're trying to get your fish to flare, because it can in deed cause stress to the fish if you do it too often, as I've mentioned before.
Though, since we don't have this ability, we don't know if flaring gills for a long period of time can harm or bother us. But your betta under the fact that the "other fish" (their reflection) is still around, it can, as well, lay stress on him.
Also, know that they control that ability from instinct and defense, though I'm sure you were already aware of that fact.
As I said, please try not to make them flare too much. Five minutes can be way too long, pretty much pushing it. Not to mention the possible pressure. I know I'm making a big deal out of this, but it's for a reason. :)

but to often people get fish(actually this can be impled about most pets) without proper knowledge or research of the animal.most often this happens to fish like bettas and for a long time gold fish and actually has led to the myth that gold fish don't live that long when they live for a really long time.also just because you keep fish doesn't owes mean your going to know everything.I once met someone who kept salt waters but didn't know that much about stunting other then what could only be seen on the surface and never knew what was actually going on with the fish as whole.

I've also seen to often people delete comments when they feel they've lost the argument or have been backed in the corner.

in order for the room tempter to even make it to 75 degrees it's would have to be over a 100 degrees in your house.if not your tank will be a chilli 60 degrees not really all that good for a betta fish which comes from vietnam and thailand in shallow nee deep water and the air tempter there is often 110 degrees.

If you aren't able to afford a heater, than just give them warm water. A light is optional. The recommended temperature is 80 F for betta fish.

A bigger tank is always better. You should have a betta in no less than 2.5 gallons. If you an a 5 or 10'gallon is best. Never put two males together. Use silk rather than plastic plants. Silk won't tear fins. A betas water should be 78 to 80f. A filter is best but if you don't have one you must change your water often. Betas can live with other fish as long as you at least have a ten gallon tank and the other fish are compatible with betas and the water conditions bettas prefer.

3 gallons is too small for that many fish.if it gets dirty like that the ammonia etc. can spike and quickly kill you fishes. Yes, you should go back to your 10 gal- you'll have healthier and happier fish!

Remember though, with 2 gallons, it's still pretty small- just not too small. I recommend shooting for a 3.5+ gallon! but 2 is fine :)

(I'd say 10 gallons is a really, really good size, or five gallons. With a ten you can have a SMALL community tank, and with five you might be able to add a snail. Be warmed if you get multiple snails- they reproduce very quickly. Some types of snails can self-fertilize, so be aware that pretty quickly your tank could be overwhelmed with little snail babies. :P)

The pic of t he tank for his yellow betta was a salt water tank, this person just took pics off of the internet. But you can feed your betta fish 5 days a week 3-4 pellets a day. You do not need a heater but it is recommended, and same for a filter. And yes a 2 gallon is a perfect size and the substrate does not matter, sand, gravel, marbles, whatever

Some of the info in this vid is not correct. They need heaters, and at least 2.5 gallons. The best betta foods are New Life Spectrum and Omega One. Most fish diseases are cured with aquarium salt. Btw, just because you betta is a crowntail, it doesn't mean it has fin rot! To whoever made this, please look up your info before you tell the world about it.

And, how is it bad to keep a fish in a larger tank? The fish will be HAPPIER. Bettas might seem happy in tiny bowls, but it's really actually quite cruel. It's good to have a large tank (and long as it's not too huge), not a teeny bowl. >:(

I keep my Crowntail Betta fish in a 20 gallon glass tank with riverbed gravel, wall air bubbler, filter, heater, a piece of drift wood, a river rock, and several live plants (not plastic ones as they contaminate the water with the glue & paint on it) My betta fish is extremely spoiled and only eats the freeze dried foods (variety "Lunch box" brand)

I think you put way more thought into this than most beta keepers. Congrats! My ex-roommate had 2 betas, each in a bowl with less than half a gallon of water, no filter but he changed the water several times a week with same temp., treated water. They were surviving for 5 years when he moved. Not a good life though. I believe you probably do water changes but didn't mention it. And I bet you probably have a small sponge filter. These are not goldfish so they don't need massive filtration.

lots of mistakes. first u dont even no what fin loss is as the picture u shown was a crowntail. next the tank `for the yellow fish` was definitely not cos it was marine and there was a pufferfish in it. the blue one u got off the internet and lastly why do u have such a big tank for ur betta if u recommend tiny tanks that r definitely not suitable for fighters. everybody is so cruel to them. u should give them at least 5 gallons because they are quite big and active.

I would not put a sucker fish in with your betta as it will grow larger than your betta (even if it is small when you first buy it). It needs much more room than a betta fish and your betta will most likely feel tresspassed against. Besides, it will not clear your water, it will only keep the glass clean. If you want to keep the water clear (which is essential to your betta's health) buy a small filter or clean it out 2 to 3 times a week.

Thanks for the vid, bowls are cruel! I highly recommend Wal-Mart for tank searches unless there is a sale of 40% off or more on the pet store tanks. WM can also have a fairly decent selection of decor, but be sure it is betta safe, no sharp/jagged edges.Got my 10g kit (includes starter, conditioner, food, hood/cover, lights and filter + media) for $29 from WM. Some pet stores will charge that much for a tank half that size. Also saw a 20g Long for the same price but it was not a kit. Good vid ;)

To be honest, it is most likely one of the main reasons why he doesn't really swim around a lot, although the most common one is that the water is too cold. You may want to check out bettafish(dot)com, it's a great site.:) I have a blue betta as well.:)

I think you should increase your own knowledge of Betta's before posting a video. You posted a picture of a Crown Tail betta...for fin loss. That us how they are supposed to look. Hence the name. Fin "rot" is the correct term btw and it looks way different. I have a crown tail so I'm very familiar with it.

my betta died recently. It was either due to poor water because I hadn't done another change in about a week and didn't have a gravel vacuum or it was due to temp fluctuation. It's winter here and my home gets really hot or really cold and his heater isn't adjustable. I am now prepping for a new betta which I may buy in a few months (after grieving). I'll miss my little guy, he was my first fish :(

If you can keep it heated (roughly 76-80 degrees) and are willing to change the water every other day, a one gallon bowl will work fine.

Your best bet is to pick up a 2.5 gallon tank, at minimum. But really, the bigger the better. I have all of my bettas in 5 gallons per fish, and I still change the water once a week. If they were in any less, and didn't have filters, the ammonia would build up in about 3 days requiring water changes that often.

Oh, but you left out testing your waters PH and putting correct PH tables in the tank at least 24 hours before putting a fish in there, and you should wait the same time for conditioner as well. Also temperature of the tank should be around 80 degrees, so some people may need heaters.

Usually they're better solitary. You can't put a male and female together because the male will attack the female. If you want to put a male betta with other fish, you want at least a 10 gal. Some fish that do well with bettas are corydoras and african dwarf frogs (not the clawed kind).

if you wanted to put the two bettas together, i would defenetly put 2 females together, because they dont like to fight as much. there is a chance you could put 2 males together, but that is only if they seem to be passive and friendly. i personally would not do that. you could, though, put a plastic divider in the middle of the tank, but in my opinion that just pisses the two bettas off.

u can still buy a beta fish just remember to put him in a big thank (look for betta fish habitat) feed him with blodworms and remember that he like plants a lot so buy live ones(also indian almond leaves to help condition the water and to promote breeding) Now a betta fish is a challange right !!!

Hmmmm. Well you see... Bettas prefer Warm water and spaces to swim. It depends on how big your little fishy is. Just be careful. PS. they like big tanks so for me i would go for a 2.5 gallon or larger but if your useing that 1/2 gallon tank, I would save up for a bigger tank

Try guppies there and easy fish to have and like bettas look really cool. If you have at least a 5 gallon you can try to find African dwarf frogs which can live with guppies. This combo was the only combo i used my entire fish life. Now I'm getting back in with a betta

The fish shown as having shredded fins was actually bred to look that way, I believe it is some sort of crowntail variety. Find out from the pet store if your fish is suppose to look that way, and if not go get some meds :)

Petsmart sells ordinary 2.5 gallon tanks for about $15. I use them for my bettas and they work well, but they come with a glass top which doesn't allow any air flow. They sell screen lids that you can buy separately I think, but I just used some netting and made my own.

A normal bag of aquarium gravel should be fine :) Any gravel I've seen so far won't fit in a betta's mouth. It's goldfish you have to worry about sucking up pebbles and gravel XD lol

If your fish's fins look shredded for no reason he might have fin rot :( that requires at least frequently cleaned warm water to cure. I had a tank with fin rot once and had to use medication to heal the fish. Show your mom some research on betta fish and just try to get a small heater and filter to start. A heater and filter for a 3 gallon tank shouldn't be too expensive and it could help your fish heal. Or be a better home for a new fish if this one falls to fin rot :(

You don't have to move either to bigger tanks if you don't want, but you could put the one in the 2 gallon in a 3 or 5 gallon if you prefer :) If you want to spend money on upgrades, heaters and filters would be good if you don't have them. As for other fish, I have seen beautiful tanks with a betta and some neon tetras, although most people say neon tetras are too active for small tanks. Just make sure you don't put him with something too bright, and nothing that will nip at his long fins.

A heater would totally help :) I got a betta, who lived with goldies for about 4 years... When I got him I gave him a 10 gallon, heated and he is more active and colored up, within days!! So a heater is awesome to get. If anything, get a submersible heater...

How come every other pet beta fish I've ever seen were kept in tiny glass bowls with no filters or heat sources, and the people who owned them always said "betas don't need a ton of space and you only need to replace the water once a week or so", and basically treat them like cheap gold fish? I thought I was the only one who put my betas in larger tanks/aquariums with all the nice equipment I felt like they deserved. I even homed them WITH other fish instead of alone, and they did spectacular!

first of all explain to your mom bettas are tropical fish THEY NEED a heater and filter,ask her if she would like to live in a tank without filteration and be cold.I think she would say no.Also if she wants the fish to live a long happy life they need a heater.i can't count the number of people that have the wrong home for a betta.a 3 gallon needs a filter.and the tank needs to be cycled.if no filter do a water change every 3 days.but never do 100 percent water changes,puts stress on your fish.

Ok so I commented a couple days ago saying I'm going to get the things I need. Well, a few things can make him stressed, like cold water. I like 2.5 gallons and up because you can safely add a heater - 5 gallons and up is safer to heat, but 2.5 is alright. and yes boredom can cause it too! For me I've had to have one betta in no less than 10 gallons with lots of stuff in there, rearranged every weekly water change so he would stop biting!

I have just my one room to a high temperature (86-90), for them :) Actually, most of my bettas (once out of quarantine in smaller tanks) end up with adjustable heaters anyways. I've known some people complain "The temperature is 100 here why do they need a heater?!" for fluctuations throughout the day and night.

In such a hot environment aquarium heaters are not needed. HOWEVER, to the random users reading this comment: In order for your betta tank to not need a heater it MUST be in an environment with temps in the 90s and above. That does not mean, "oh i live in an ACed home in a place that is SUPER hot outside, I don't need to buy a heater!" No if you live in an ACed home, your betta needs a heater PERIOD. No ifs ands or buts about it.

I like this video but I will say this: Give your pets the best you can manage, give them as much space as you can give, the best food you can afford and your love and attention. If you have any fish you need a master water test kit to keep an eye on problem water conditions and do your FREQUENT water changes. the betta you posted with "fin loss" does NOT have fin loss. It is actually one of the perfectly bred crowntails. ALSO, the 2nd "good" tank you posted is a HORRIBLE tank. You should purchase tanks that are atleast 2.5 gallons. reason being is it is easier to find a heater in store for tanks 2.5 gallons and larger. (good reliable heaters!) Not to mention you can't put enough decor in that tiny tank. So your fish may get bored quickly. Please do better research on caring for your betta.

Most people state min. 5 gallons. By the time you've put in gravel and plants it'll be cramped. Also I take it you live in England? Us in the UK do not have the warm climates betta fish need; but also without a heater, temperature changes weaken your betta's immune system and can result in illness & death. And unless you want to do daily water changes, get a filter. Ebay is your best friend, tanks and equip are v cheap. Proper setup with tank, heater, filter, treatments etc = £50 & 1 happy fish!

Thanks for all the info, I have got a 35 Gallon tank but it is missing the lid. On both side of light there is a 3 inches gap. I am just worrying that if I put the fishes may be they will jump outside though the hight of the tank is 24" . 10 gallons isn't the optimal for a pair of betta, as there mating ritual involves a lovely fight >< if you provide enough hiding space, then 10 gallon will do, but a bigger tank would be the best.

I am pet sitting my brother's fish, they are in a fish bowl, they are always at the bottom, except when food is put in, they swim up. Is this normal and how often would a fish bowl need to be cleaned?

@Sadmic100 no not the same they need plants to rest their fins have u cycled it have u got a filter or heater get the poor fish a cycled filtered and heated tank at least 2.5

you can put female bettas together but NOT males, they will fight to the death. but you can put: ghost shrimp, mystery snails, algae eaters, molly, and platy fish. do NOT put guppies in with a male bcuz guppies have long, colorful fins like bettas and bettas with attack them. But all bettas personalitites are different and if your betta male is not very mean then ig you cud try putting guppies in, but i dont recommend it :) good luck!

@theJesusjen i never feed my bettas with flakes before..maybe betta dont eat flakes..if your betta spits them out after the feed,stop the feed n try feed them on next day. usually betta eats very little, he/she wont get starve if it dont eat for a day. the betta spit up the food just maybe he/she has no appetite for temporary. feed twice per day is more than enough :)

pellets also give blatter problems so use blood worms instead especially for breeding pairs

I kept the little cup that my betta came in so whenever I do water changes I scoop out a little water in the cup and put the betta in there... That way he doesn't get stressed out while the water is being changed.

@theJesusjen Try different brands of Pellets, some bettas won't eat certain brands, especially if you changed abruptly. Just bloodworms will cause him to get fat, and he isn't getting all the nutrients he needs, pellets and flakes (pellets tend to do better) give all the nutrients and food requirements a betta needs. Bloodworms are supposed to be a once a week treat.

My betta fish will NOT eat pellets or flakes-he spits them out! is it ok if i just feed him freeze dried bloodworms? I noticed he will eat those. I feed him like 2-3 a day, is that enough? Sometimes he'll eat the pellets if i cut them in half, but lately he has just spit them out.

@venusflytrap99 I have 3 betta fish. The smallest tank I would use would be 1 gal. Most people think Bettas are dormant but they are actually very active fish. A bigger tank will also help keep their fins healthier. (Learned that from experience)

hikari bio gold pellets and frozen bloodworms are the best for your betta's. trust me and its very cheap :)

@betyourkok They sell betta flakes, too, but usually they're supposed to prefer pellets. They love frozen bloodworms best. If you don't have other fish and only a betta, you should get the ones that are sold in sheets instead of in little cubes, so you can scrape off a small enough portion and refreeze the rest. You can feed him freeze dried bloodworms too, but they're less healthy than frozen ones.

@mojodrago08 Alright so to do that, we just put the betta in like a little cup or bowl, and then scrub out the inside, and replace the water? Does it need new gravel each time you clean the tank? Also, how do you put Water conditioner in?

i have a small tank and i have a blue one tht loks like your blueish one his name is dr.bieber and he always looks tired and or sad but he has the bubble nests all over he plant ive bene thinging about moveing the plant so he can swim around it is this a good idea because he cant move around it because it is up agnst the side of the tank/ please help!

Some people might trash talk you saying 1.5g is cruel but its a lot better than the cup at the pet store. You can always upgrade later too. I think a 20g is only $30-40 which is perfect for them plus you can decorate it up reaaallly nice. A side fact.. Betta fish are territorial up to one square foot. They wont attack fish that don't look like a Betta fish so some tetra are safe cause they dont look like betta and swim too fast for betta to catch.

Lots of ways to clean tank. If you only have the one Betta in the tank you wont have a lot of waste 20-25% once-twice a week is fine. Vacuum the gravel every 2-4 weeks with filter changes. The only thing you want to watch is shocking them. Premixing the water with dechlorinator and gettng the fresh water temp room temp- what temp the tank is at will keep your betta happy. Ive known people to change 100% water but that messes up your tanks biology and can kill your fish if its weak
