I had a betta just like that but while I was cleaning the tank I came up to put the clean tank back and he was laying on the ground bleeding obviously a cat attack. he lived for maybe a half a week. He wasn't doing good he would lie at the top or bottom of the tank he had issues swimming his beautiful fins were teared up and he passed away I cried so hard he was the most pretty and special fish that I ever kept he was the fish that I had that actually lived for a few months. He was a very healthy fish. But I have another crowntail betta and he is beautiful he's a pretty red color with a little bit of blue on his scales. I've already had a bunch of fish deaths so please wish me luck on the one I have now! Please and thank you! < Clara > :P :)

+Clara Humphreys As you know, cats love to harm fish! So step 1, of course keep the cats away at all costs like keeping them in a different room with the door shut while cleaning the tanks. Another tip is if not already, treat your fish to bloodworms freeze dried or live, do not put him on a sustainable diet of bloodworms unless he wont eat the pellets/flakes. Another thing, try to avoid feeding the fish flakes as it clouds up the tank. If you DO feed him pellets, dont let the dirt in the water go to waste! Get a snail :3 preferrably a nerite snail (any type will do) I am actually about to get a horned nerite snail, although its not usual to get snails and fish from pet stores, if you do get your snail from a pet store thats fine, thats where I get my fish too and they usually last me at least 8 months.

i have 1 reddish burgundy betta fish he is a male i brought him from petsmart and took him home with me on tuesday novemember 26,2013 i put him in my 10 gallon fish tank aquarium he is the only fish in there i named him plymouth . after plymouth rock he turned 2 years old in 2014 he will be 3 years old this 2015 :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) <3 <3 <3

+Jireh The Fox Animating/fnaf fan +Fish Tank Girl Both fish are male, female Betta fish have extremely short fins, their eyes and mouth are smaller and the gill membrane that Betta fish puff out when they feel competition is around is shorter and not nearly as prominent. Pet stores won't generally sell females because if they're with a male- they'll have babies, if they're with another female they will fight just like two males- and they aren't as flashy so they don't sell as fast as males. /end rant lol :)

I think your blue betta has popeye.
This is a disease that makes their eyes buldge from poor water conditions or from hitting it on something. This is what I'm looking at. 0:50
Did you get it from a pet store? ( petco, petsmart )
Most fish from their carry the disease. The cure is epsom salt. ( I've mispelled, thats how its pronounced..)

I have CaribSea African Cichlid sand (in white) as my substate. The tank is only 5 gallon and it comes with a little pump and sponge filter.

Large tanks are not needed, though to be truthful they will prefer the smaller bowl. Bettas are 'swamp' fish in nature. Basically this means they live in sludgy, shallow, warm water with all kinds of high protein foods at their beck and call (bloodworms, mosquito larvae etc). So in a captive environment, they are very happy in a small amount of water, with little oxygen and variable temperatures. Just make sure you offer a good high protein diet! :)

yum me you have to be joking. they live in rice patties that run for MILES long, and they are much happier and thrive in bigger spaces. not only are bowls cruel, your fish just won't live as long or happily in one. it's a common myth that betta fish are swamp fish that "enjoy" dirty water and small spaces. they can withstand it and survive, but that doesn't mean they're thriving or happy. please do your research:)

You do realize that these "Swamps" are Rice Paddies that can be as large as a football field and at least a foot deep if not more? That's a LOT of space. Don't continue perpetuating that Lie that they like little bowls. NO creature wants to be kept in a cramped and tiny space.
