the issue with guppies not salty water as much as inbreeding. Guppies can adapt to very salty water and completely fresh water as well. From a water parameter perspective guppies prefer hard water. But the biggest issue is the inbreeding. heavy inbreeding causes there gene pool to become weaker over generations of inbreeding.

I actually have 3 males living peacefully together... They will sleep in the same area. They do well eating in the same area. Not only that but they are also living with 4 females. And I haven't had any problems. Going on 1 month now so far.

Each betta is different. I have one Betta thats flares up and attacks snails. My other betta, you could put another male in there and as long as he don't start nothing, it wont be nothing.

55 Gallons is a big size for a community tank. As long as you have lots of hiding places and for fish if they start to get bullied you could have all of these fish just maybe not the tiger barbs.

I have my guppies for 2 years now. The point is that you have to have more females than males (1:3). Mollies tend to be more agressive than gouramies ( i have both of them) . I don't recommend starting with white mollies ( they need more care) you can start with black, orange because they're not so sensible to water parametres.

guppies need a higher PH if you have soft acidic water your guppies will not thrive.

Guppies were the first fish I ever kept, the males can be very similar looking to the females, the best way to tell the difference is the anal fin, the males have a long pointed fin, the females have a normal triangular fin, you can also tell when your females are gravid they develop a dark patch near their anal fin,

Agreed on the guppy theory. I got like 5 fancy guppies and $1 worth of baby regular guppies (10), which my local pet store sell as feeder fish, and all of the fancy ones died but now I have like 40 regular ones with decent color variations and are starting to get bigger as well due to natural selection. Also if any die usually I have one have babies soon there after to replace the ones I lost.

I would have to go with Betta fish just from the fact that they are known to be able to survive in small containers without proper filtration.

how hard is your water and what's it PH.? Guppies require a higher PH. harder water.

if you had gubbies alongside your Mollys, that night answer your gubby problem.. the Molly WILL eventually kill off the gubbies, often done through starvation.. Mollys are best at a species specific aquarium ;-)
Also, they Are actually (the Molly) saltwater/brackish fish, not freshwater..

guys selling you "breeder" guppies are actually old guppies ... about to die... alot of breeders do that and fancy guppies are selective bred (inside a lab/fishroom) so it means that they are very sensitive to water temperture fluctuations compared to norml guppies that re well adapted to almost any enviroment .. guppies are not ssemi-salty fish (brackish) .. but mollies are lol advise on tiger brbs buy 10 or more cause they die of depression if they get lonely oh all the guppies you have are males you can determine their sex by looking at their "anal" fin

I have a 40 gallon breeder of just fancy guppy's. Maybe had a dozen deaths in the last year. Out of the 4-5 generations of new guppy's.

its not the breeder fancy guppies are a brackish water fish which means they live in freshwater but there is also some saltwater for example at the mouth of a supposedly fresh water river that empties into a bay or the gulf for some part of that freshwater river turns into brackish water

I will say yes golden wonder kilis will not die but word of warning. they are predators. If it fits it will eat. I had a 4 inch male that killed off my glow and neon tetras. and the little 2 inch male killed my rasboras.

I once had a guppy that lasted for 3 and a half years. The reason your guppies don't last long is more st likely poor genetics.

Those fish have to be hardy to survive in that tank. That water is not very clear. Tank film on glass. Just pointing out the obvious.

Beta is good for solo, they MIGHT kill other fish, but some are just EVIL LITTLE BUTTS. (Some, not all)

your problem with the guppies is that you dont put them together. the guppies without colour are female and the ones with colour are male. not that the colourful ones are "fancy". put the males and females together and they will live longer and breed. think about what its like with no women. us guys would die! lol

What about the tetras? Black widow, black phantom, bleeding heart, colombian, rummy nose are all really hardy and long-lived. Cory cats too. For some reason I don't have much luck with killifish. Sometimes you get a male killifish who's an asshole and kills the rest of the males, and they don't live long because they usually die in the dry season in their natural habitat. Just my experience though. Gread vid!

Thanks for the comment! I've never tried tetras just not my cup of tea I guess. I'm sure they are great fish though! I have a Cory Cat in my Community Tank for about a year now and he is doing great!

When you buy Guppies, buy pregnant females. Guppies are a mass bread fish. Sold for quantity not quality.

Lovely video, but yehh your right hand guppy pic is of a male and the left a female, and both are 'fancy'. Male may have been less hardy because it is slower moving and susceptible to being picked on by fin nippers like barbs.
Ratio of at least 2 females per male works well and they'll breed away.

Pahoua Lee For me these fish are pretty hardy. Fancy guppies were my first fish and they are almost a year old now. They also lived through me cycling a tank back before I knew more about fishless cycling. too.

I agree. My LFS doesn't have guppies for some reason so the only ones I have ever owned are from Petco.

Videl EF I also started with guppies and you know what they are doing absolutely fantastic it's been nearly 10 months since I have them. I started with 3 pairs but now they have multiplied to 12pairs.

I think it all depends upon the quality of the fish and from where you get them.
I got mine from a local guppy breeder in my town.

Yes I have had my fair share of guppy fatalities. I think its a mixture of the fact that i didn't have any aquarium salt in my tank and that the pH of my tap water is relatively high. Thank you for watching!

David Carter my upside down catfish died but soon we will replace him and some good plecos are bristle nose plecos but I have an otocinclus in my 29 gallon and he does pretty well at cleaning the tank.

Hayden Northcott Yeah, Killifish are serious jumpers, I remember back when I didn't have a lid, I had couple tiger panchax, once woke up in the morning and made my way to find one of em on the floor, I thought it was dead but I picked it up and it started wiggling and I put it back in the tank

No mistake, Blue spot Gouramis grow much larger and are more aggressive than dwarf Gouramis, although they are not always aggressive. Like all fish there are exceptions.

I would not recommend the tiger barbs, as you point, they are aggressive fin nippers. It is a shame because they are so cool looking.

I've been having trouble with my Tiger Barb. I put them in my Community tank in a school of 6 and by week 2 there were only 2 left. I don't know what I am doing wrong in keeping them. I did research in the fish I am keeping them with and none of the other fish have died except the Barbs.

Sorry for the late reply. The problems I could think of is maybe they were infected with internal parasites or some other illness. Also, make sure to add some aquarium salt to your freshwater tank. Most freshwater fish can handle a small amount of salt and all pet stores add salt to their tanks that can handle it. If your tank did not have salt in it but the one from the pet store did. They may not have been able to adapt to the new conditions. Ask your LFS how much salt they add to their tanks. Thanks for watching
